Ebert's reasons for not shopping at wal-mart are bullshit. I have no problem shopping at wal-mart. If it's really that bad of a job then do what I would do if I hate my job. Get another one. Plenty of stores similar to Wal-Mart near me. Target, Wegman's, which is actually been said to be a place that treats it's employees very well. I shop there too.
Ebert's argument about Wal-Mart employees can be said about McDonalds' employees, & farm workers, & anyone else who makes less than $20,000 a year. Corporate greed is something that goes beyond Wal-Mart.
Sure, though he missed one main point, as a purchaser/buyer, Walmart uses its influence to essentially hardball them for lower prices, and supplying for a competitor will make them feel the wrath.
Much like the Railways doing that. In other words, its not real 'free' market. McDonald's does not have enough power in the industry nor did it use the practice of blackmailing its distributors, suppliers, etc.
I would not say always, but a good many a time. THe only time I can think up of that he did not make a good point was when he done his review of the film GOJIRA (a.k.a. Godzilla 1954). I think he did not really understand that film, or kept on getting it confused with the american 1998 remake.

Ebert & Siskel dumbed people down, contributed to a system of corporate sponsored culture that thrives on persuasion as opposed to honest communication of ideas. Ebert & Siskel were very narrow minded and very damaging to the way people looked at film, because they reinforced shallow standards and anti intellectual principles. They only seem better NOW because we love to piss and complain about current things, and we have short memories when it comes to things which have always been vapid.
I worked at Target. It wasn't a bad job. The pay decent, not the greatest it wasn't minimum wage. They do offer medical and I had female managers. I wouldn't work at Wal-mart. I've heard horror stories from people I know who work/ed there. I don't know how Target treats the people who make their products. This is what I know and why I no longer shop at wal-mart.
The nearest city to where I live (Danville, Illinois) didn't want a Wal-Mart, so Wal-Mart decided to build one on the outskirts of Danville to get around a sales tax hike.
Hey,really impressed by this video.China now has this kind of problems in almost every companies.I haven't heard which company would like pay for overtime work. But,the workers in them have to work overtime if they want their jobs.Maybe, you wan to say"Go To Sue Them!",yeah, you are right. But,they will be punished by being fired or violence.I hate this ,but what could I do though? NO FUCKING RIGHTS IN CHINA IS JUST BECAUSE NOBODY DARES TO SAY NO.
Does Target pay their employees more than Wal-Mart? Do they not sell products made in China? Do they not push out small businesses the same way Wal-Mart does? I don't understand where Ebert or other people shop that they feel are somehow more moral than Wal-Mart. Big companies who do things more efficiently than small ones will win in capitalism. The consumer benefits in the end. The economy would be a shambles if everything stayed "mom and pop" & we never got the benefit of economies of scale.
I can't think of anything good at all to say about walmart. They cause nothing but trouble for small towns,Like a vampire, they suck the life out of small companies around them.House's lose value next to the beast walmart.
A lot of people don't want to work there, but have no choice once Wal-Mart runs out the competition. As a military spouse we have been moved to countless small towns where Wal-Mart is the only option to shop and work. Jobs like that are not "a dime a dozen" in many towns across the U.S.. Your opinion is like countless other idiots who don't think before they speak (or type as the case may be).
How about when Walmart builds an even bigger superstore across the street and leaves the old one empty to rot, this contributes to the uglification of America.
those views were watched by walmart consumers and people who shop at walmart. The IQ's are as low as the sale price at walmart. Nothing but trailer trashed, low income lotter scratch playing losers!!!
