I had the same noise with my 99 cavalier (yeah, i know...) and my idler pulley eventually busted its bearings, and went crooked on me. I replaced the idler pulley and now my car sounds as rough and tough as a cavalier possibly can.
that is definetely the idler.. I have a saturn and my car sounds like it's crying!!! is it ok for me to drive it with it not breaking down until I get it fixed?
mine only makes a noise when i take off. and i just replaced the belt. so i was like wtf. my dad told me to put some soap on it to clean up the grease so i might do that. but anyother suggestions
Maybe too much rice in the gas tank?, j/k, You can take the belt off and see if the noise stops, then check each the alt, idlers, power steering pump etc for weirdness.
I had the same exact sound on my 02 wrx for about 2 and half months, opened my hood today and was able to see that the ac belt was getting shredded. It's the ac idler pulley, so if you let it keep going the same will probably happen to you. The bearing most likely went bad. I'm just going to go pick up a new pulley and install it. Don't go to a shop, save your money, it's something anyone can do.
@labradors0 My car is having the same problem, im 45 min away from home, my ac belt broke, is it ok if i drive back with no belt on? can that damage other parts of the engine?
It's been okay. The sound has been present since I've had it so I don't know. It's not as loud as the video either so I don't know if the sound is abnormal
See/hear this all the time at me and my dads shop. Usually the culprit is either the clutch on the AC condenser dying, P/S pump dying, Alternator dying and once a water pump that was seizing. Almost always turns out to be the AC compressor clutch.
I had that same noise too. I thought it was normal until I had my transmission serviced, then...no noise. The fluid was very thick when they drained it, it took damn near two hours.
uh did i say it was the tranny? i just said i had it serviced and suddenly there was no noise. i had the same noise when i was in park. and yeah, I am a dummy when it comes to cars because im not a mechanic...so back da fuck up off of me, u creep.
mine did that! had a bad idler pulley
