It's a Longbow. It just doesn't have the APG-78 installed. Look carefully at the fuselage, particularly below the cockpit, and compare that to the A-model.
@hckyplyr72 In that case you would mean it's any other model BUT a model D...since the model D *is* the Longbow and this obviously isn't a Longbow (lacking mast radar dome).
SO, if you're going to be smartypants online and throw around the (supposed) fact that you're an Apache mechanic, you should really get your most basic facts correct.
Yes if you read the next post I realized right away I mistyped. I worked on them late 80's early 90's and we did not have any Longbow Apache's. The OH-58D's would fly to help laser targets for the most part. Someone tried to say that all Apache's are Longbows which is not correct. Now they are but back then they weren't.
You are correct...I mistyped...AH-64A...most likely 1985 model but I cant read the tail number
a longbow is the dome thing above the rotor yes, not the actual aircraft, juts the radar and targeting system of the apache, witht he dome thing above the rotor
well, there's two variations of the D model, the Longbow, which has the fire control radar installed, and just the D model, with no fcr. but both can be identified by the extended avionics bays and air data sensors mounted to each engine nacelle, you'll notice the one in the video has the air data sensor mounted on top of the main rotor head. Also, most A models have the anti-collision lights mounted on the wing, while the D model's are on the engine nacelles.
Longbow has the fire control radar thingy on top

@budismo2 The radar dish is considered by many pilots as extra weight...they might have taken it off...

gunneruk1983 6 months ago

@hckyplyr72 no it's an AH64A (without mount radar).
AH64D can only be Longbow radar equiped.

ok people get it right planes have propellors helicopters have rotors there is a big difference -.-
DSMeclipsegst 3 years ago
thats not longbow, longbows got that weird thing on top of the propelllors right?
TheLedgends 3 years ago
its the same plane, the thing on the top of the rotor blades is a radar, they just took it off
whyunknown 2 years ago
a longbow is the dome thing above the rotor yes, not the actual aircraft, juts the radar and targeting system of the apache, witht he dome thing above the rotor
smaug911 2 years ago
No, its because the propellor blades produce a large amount of wind that can make anything light move.
hellcatdave1 3 years ago
Yes i ment that it was windy from the helicopters blades.
thetownidiot5 3 years ago
ya it was just really windy

that guy standing underneith it was fine tho :P

uh, nice footage, but that's not a longbow, in an alpha model
nitefly8 4 years ago
Actually it is a longbow.
ApacheCobra 3 years ago
Look at the avionics bay and above the rotor, its an Alpha.
Ltony2 3 years ago 2
Oh yeah, you're right. Didnt look close enough at first, my bad.
ApacheCobra 3 years ago
no, it's an alpha, i work on these for a living, i get used to noticing the subtle differences
nitefly8 3 years ago
Doesnt the longbow have the radar at the top of it? Idk...i know more about jets than I do choppers...even tho my name is talking about storms...
