This is idiotic. The U.S. historically has left a significant duty station in nearly every nation it has had combat operations in. The oil connection has no rational validity, primarily because Saddam Hussein would have cut the U.S. a better deal on oil than even the present and future Iraqi govt.'s will just to get the U.S. off his back. Oil is a gain, but not a substantial one, and the Iraqi people gain much more than the U.S. does in this scenario.
