I think quality is usually appreciated, no matter how old you are. I was born in the 1970s, but sooner or later I came across Cary Grant, Hepburn & Tracy, Grace Kelly and of course I Love Lucy. Many people also appreciate the great books that have been written. I loved Agatha Christie when I was 12, and I met a teenager recently who loves Charles Dickens. Eventually, people gravitate to what they like, no matter what their friends like. The rest of your life should not be like middle school.
I love that younger kids are watching I Love Lucy....my kids are 12 and 9 and love the show. You kids just have great taste and know good stuff when you see it!
Well, i'm 16, and have loved this show since i was 12, so i think some teenagers have good taste and are mature enough to appreciate the old black and white movies and television series.
Haha I'm noticing quite a bit of discussion about teenagers watching old black & white tv shows like "Lucy" :D Well I'm going to be 17 this month & I've seen "I Love Lucy" a hundred times & it's still one of those shows I could watch FOREVER! I hate all the crud that's on TV nowadays: Jersey Shore, The Hills, Skins, etc. I've never seen an episode of any of that & never will! "I Love Lucy" is a timeless wonderful piece of television history & will be remembered & treasured forever. :)
i dont care if it has color or not. the show is still amazing cus lucy will always be lucy and ricky will always be ricky,no other tv show even compares.i love this show btw im a teen too.
I'm 13 and I've loved Lucy since I was 8! Her show's and movies are just so fun for me, however I hate the colorized. I love original black and white.
This was not a commercial this was a special for WestingHouse I know that because I had this on VHS and watched it numerous times. I wish I hadn't lost the tape :(
God- I remember those appliances! Escecially the pink deep fryer- everybody had one of those- some got the optional color-matching stand. It made great chicken. AAhhhh- the sixties- before we knew how bad everything was for us! Better living through chemicals!
I must admit, that Legend Films did an amazing job, and the fact that they always restore the B&W elements for DVD along with the colorized versions. I bought all of the Shirley Temple discs Legend did, and I nearly always watch the B&W versions (because that's how they're meant to be seen), but occasionally I'll look at their colorized version and have to admit they do a good job.
nothing wrong with colorizing the series, just as long as the original black and white copies are just as accessible.....kids today are turned off by black and white
@nealadams70 lol cause u cant find black and white no more, i think the show does look better in black and white, much more simpler, and keeps ur mind of wat the show is really about
@skizzery black and white tv shows are WIDELY available on DVD, cable and the inrternet (YOUTUBE viewers upload episodes of Ilove lucy, Leave it to Beaver, My three sons , The Donna Reed Show, etc....so dont use that argument...
@ClassicsWEREandARE good....you learn a lot more about good tv (humor, human interaction, pathos) from older shows than the crap thats on today (bathroom humor, sexism, racism)
@maroonoasis One of the reasons is because of the comments that have followed yours.....but if there are kids out there that have an interest in the non-color tv shows like 'Lucy, then GREAT-!'
@nealadams70 that just means some teens actually apriciate<(unsure to spell) funny ass shows that r old and dont mind the black and white hell i love it
Not entirely true.I'm twelve but I love black and white movies and shows.I wanted to watch this because at first I thought Lucy had blonde hair. Then in a episode they said she had red.I still happen to prefer the series in black and white though, I love Lucy wouldn't truly be the same if it wasn't in black and white. You do have a point though, everyone of my friends have never even scene a black and white movie, but oh well, nothing you can really do about it....
@twilightshadow134 Well im glad to know that there is another teen that likes i love lucy too! Im 14 and ive loved it since i was 8 when i first watched it!
@twilightshadow134 I agree, I Love Lucy wouldn't be the same in color either (my friends have never ever heard of her! By the way, Lucy was a natural blonde, but dyed her hair red.). However, this was a commercial, not an actual show, you can tell because Lucy calls Desi, Desi, and he calls her Lucy (as usual LOL). You can find the whole commericial if you look up something like "Lucy and Desi Westinghouse"
I remember when they first started colorizing the classics, the rumor was that MTV was going to colorize all of Sting's videos(shot in b&w). Ha! Colorization is awful. Next thing you know they'll be coloring the opening & closing scenes of The Wizard Of Oz...
colorization defaces the artistic and historic integrity of the work.
if our childrens generation is to see it they should see things int heir original form as we and our parents did , instead of trying to deny history and change facxts
I always hated the colorization thing. Sure, they know the exact shades of some things, but they can't get the colored reality of the entire filmed scenery right.. If Desi had been smart, he'd have let Lucy go into syndication for a couple of more years and produce a fine color version of Lucy near the end -- like Superman, one of the most brilliantly color '50s syndicated and successful shows. I'd have rather seen Lucy Ricardo aired in real color w/o a studio audience.
I agree with you about colorization--always looks too pastel, washed-out, not natural.
But I'm not such a huge fan of even natural color. I find black & white more soothing on the eyes, and it even lends an atmospheric tone to certain types of pictures--film noir, detective stories, horror and mystery films.
But if filmed in color, "Lucy" needn't have abandoned a studio audience, as if some quid pro quo..
i'm 20 & this is the only show i like
