I just got this one (P1i) ...and I was wondering if I could use the GPS function without connecting to the Internet? Otherwise it's just not worthed ... (using this in my car and paying for it)!

I have P1i an I am not using Wayfinder for GPS because it recuires internet conn.. so i installed TOM TOM, it doesnt need internet, it is free. there is also GARMIN, both are great... of coursd you need gps receiver, it comes with your mobile device

This is not the real P1's funtion. He is just using external GPS Tomtom through Bluetooth Phone. It means you shuld buy GPS device seperately. Samsung or Nokia is better. This dosen't has even built-in GSP reciever. Sony products usually has less features and lower Technology comparing with other brands. Only stupit idiots who does not have any knowledge about Elec-devices thinks sony shuld be better because brend name looks better and expencive. Be smart!

Why don´t you have a look at SonyEricssons latest device, Xperia X1, and compare it with todays smartphones... Have a look through the technical specifications as well before you presuppose that S/E has "lower technology" comparing to other brands... Peace!

Yes as you know I´m using the wayfinder bluetooth-GPS.. You can get something similar in a store selling mobilephones... Cheers

Dumbasses, you can link almost any smartphone with an external bluetooth GPS antenna.

And yes, these phones support tomtom 6.

I know cuz i use it with my M600i.

yes the wayfinder 7 needs a internet connection to work.

It needs an internet connection because it download the maps by GPRS. But the firs time you install wayfinder i think it has to register and that´s probably why it didn´t work for you. Contact your operator to setup your p1i for GPRS. Good luck.

I think actually the software ad GPS reciever vary in what country you buy it. I´ve heard aswell that the GPS reciever was a kind of goodwill from sony/e just for the firt set of p1i. But it still comes with it here in Sweden if you go buy one today so I don´t really know. But obviously you didn´t get one then. Be sure to ask the retailer before buying it.

And yes you pay data-trafic cost for downloading the maps by GPRS.

to zebric: that is because it does not have an internal gps receiver. you'll have to buy that. They do mention that it has several applications installed on the memorycard. One of them is Wayfinder 7.

You get a bluetooth GPS reciever with the Wayfinder 7 software in the package. Anyway with the first set of P1i released. Otherwise any bluetooth phone works with this bluetooth-GPS and software.
