  • BE is such a classic, if this was on the album....OMG!! but i can see why it wasn't.

  • DRAKE IS SO MUCH BETTER, JUST CAUSE COMMON IS A PRODUCT OF THE 90s dont make him better REAL TALK FROM A REAL G

  • @pushtoon1 thats where your wrong Common is able to be more intricate with his flow and paint a vivid image for you when he rhymes unlike Drake just raps to rap and does the punchline flow so the new age can all feel like its the "dopest shit" they every heard they are both good but Drake is a Rapper whilst Common is an MC and thats where it differs a MC are better cause they have an open mind and flow from the heart a Rapper raps for a pay check

  • RIP JAYDEE

  • @Leezo2k10 kanye outdid dilla??? what the fuck man

  • @bazmaxholland The actual Be track on the album is prod by Ye and is better than this version

  • That kick drum is a monster!!!

  • damn never heard this shit right here, ugh, Dilla Dawg! just when i seem to forget the Tat on my arm that says "J Dilla Changed My Life" i hear this ish, and reminds of how this dude makes me wanna be the man in my lifetime. common killing it too...standard!

  • @Twistedlinguistics should learn to spell sense haha

  • @Twistedlinguistics lol common sense you mean.

  • Kanye's Version is much Better! But anyway much Respect To dilla R.I.P.

  • @Mrprincejannisg what Kanye Version?

  • @iDontFeelYouu The one on the album: Be (Intro)

  • can u upload this song pls. its nowhere to be found. I can't believe he didn't add it in the album. it is just so much better. I feel cheated. this song reminds me so much of can I borrow a dolla .The vibe is there.

  • This goes hard. More in the style of "Corners" than the album version. Good ish.

  • this is so necessay. damn.

  • wow this sounds like shit compared to the kanye west production

  • @HenryTPrice J Dilla also produced the final cut. With Kanye.

  • @HenryTPrice stupidest comment i have read on youtube in a long time.

  • No DJ indeed. It's JD!

  • I could listen to this all day :)

  • @wwefanatic662 kanyes be was dope, and still is dope af. dillas is dope as well, but i feel where your coming from. either way, j dilla took hip hop to a whole other demention of real soulful shit. kanyes not the same as slow jams, or spaceship... or even heard em say or through the wire.

  • Like if you're listening to this song @ an age where you can spell simple words like 'listening'

  • @RoflTimeOhNo 2/10, I've seen better from my Grandmother.

  • check my SELFMADE-HIP-HOP..............p KRIMINAL L

  • THE BEST BEAT EVA!

  • @wwefanatic662 ahh naaa broo. kanyes beats are dope as fukk. gotta give him props, but better than j dilla ??? i dont think so. kanye can never live upp the the legendary real hiphop, samplin', crate-diggin dilla. kanyes beats off of heart breaks, and beautiful twisted fantacy were trash as fukk. collage dropout to graduation is the real hip hop kanye every body used to love.

  • @SupremeHipHopSupply nah im sayin Dilla is the best producer, and this beat go hard, but the way the final BE album turned out, like i said with songs like Go and Faithful Kanye's fit better. This beat i can see on Like Water For Chocolate

  • J Dilla in my opinion is the best producer, and this beat is dope, but kanye's is better.I like Kanye too.Ye's beat just fit better with the BE album, with songs like Go and Faithful, and It's Your World and Love(both produced by Dilla)

  • @wwefanatic662 absolutely not, sir. & kanye is in my top 5 favorite hip hop artists. but no.

  • @thegabster32 Yeah i see what you sayin.im not sayin Kanye is better than Dilla, and like you Kanye is one of my favorite hip hop artist.Dilla is the best and my favorite producer.Basically im saying that this beat could still been on Be,but not necessarily the intro.Kanye's was a better fit for the intro, not really the better beat.

  • Love the rawness of this version - the perfect song that bridges Common's older funk with Be's jazz.

  • no questions

  • Like if you're listining to this song @ 2011

  • @MrMistaLEO Common 4 Eva

  • @MrMistaLEO

Not I, for I am time traveling ... you should see 2028, the Iphone13 talks to people for you based on your usual conversations

  • @MrMistaLEO You're saying like it was something unusual, and those 169 people also think so... I guess if I wrote such comment under some 1969 Meters' song it would be so hardcore, I would get 1.000.000 thumbs up, yeah? Strange thinking for me...

  • @MrMistaLEO no im listining to this in 565 B.C.

  • No disrespect, but Kanye's version is much better than this one.

  • Comment removed

  • sooo fucking raw. this shit is the nicest.

common has helped me thru so much with this beautiful music

i think im finally finding my way

  • Classic dope ass Jay Dee bumpin beat and Common flowin...what more could you ask for?!.....And WTF is up with all the stupid wacked immature negativity that u dumbass mf'ers are posting on here. Who gives a fuck who YOU think is better...They are all great in their own way. We all have our own opinion and just because some1 doesnt agree with you dont mean u gotta fight or call each other names! GROW UP u ignorant idiots!!...and thats all i got 2 say. PEACE

  • @dtsjr1227 NO offense, but your comment is somewhat hypocrtiical. You are also outputting a negative vibe sir.

  • You know what I hate...Coming on youtube to listen some music and seeing all the comments about which rapper is better than who and the older generation speaking about how rap today is crap.

Rap today is what it is...if u like old school thats great.....but what u think the earth and time would remain still...come on

lot of good rappers out there as there is a lot of shitty ones...and different strokes for different folks mahn...

so dont hate on another persons taste of music ....just enjoy

  • @intangiblecorpse Glad someone out there is talking sense :)

  • @intangiblecorpse Smartest comment I've seen on youtube in a while.

  • @intangiblecorpse Maybe you should stop hating on other people hating on crappy music and just listen to the track. :)

  • @intangiblecorpse I hate coming on Youtube and seeing comments... period.

A bunch of amateur asshats who drop their pants, pull their cheeks apart, and lay a steaming opinion all over the chest of what would otherwise be an enjoyable experience, listening to common.

  • @intangiblecorpse Oh my god this comment makes me happy. I hate not being able to go to a Common video without seeing top comments like, "BLAHBLAHBLAH BETTER THAN LIL WAYNE BLAHBLAHBLAH HE RAPS ABOUT REAL SHIT NOT MONEY AND WOMEN". Most of these people don't know hip-hop isn't about trying to be as conscious as you can be, and I doubt they've even listened to Lil Wayne beyond a single or two. Lil Wayne was one of the best in the mid-2000s, but yeah. Regardless, you're a gentleman and a scholar.

  • @intangiblecorpse hipsterism

  • @intangiblecorpse mainstream hiphop isn't equal to taste for me...

  • @intangiblecorpse best fuckin comment i have seen on youtube. Pretty much sums up what im sayin too. big ups son

  • @intangiblecorpse

....Then don't look at the comments, don't hate on a other's right to do as they please with what they believe.

  • love j dilla but kanyes version was better just my opinion this is dope but wouldntfit onthe album very well

  • I guess people forgot that justblaze try to get dilla on a Jay-Z project. yes that is true but he tuned it down cause he was working on other project. you see dilla did not care about the fame. If you dont believe what I am saying is true read the "Scratch RIP Dilla" issue magazine.

  • kanye is shit and people that had respect for him dont anymore pete rock and rza are the best 2 producers and nas illmatic is ok only deff not better than bizzare ride or labcabincalifornia i dont even think its better than nastradamus bobby digital is way better than illmatic so is ironman ny state of mind is the only good track i only listend to it once and it was only ok save your money and buy down with the king just the first track on that is better than anything nas has done

  • @dom123435 You must be a crackhead. Did you just say that Illmatic is 'okay' ..

  • @jordansmn im no crackhead and i just dont rate illmatic its right near the bottom of my cd collection i regret buying it and stillmatic is awfull aswell another cd i regret buying u listen to albums like down with the king here come the lords and although nas is good hes miles behind run pete rock cl etc if anybody is thinking of buying it dont buy down with the king the first track is better than all of illmatic

  • @jordansmn LOL!

  • @dom123435 man, I gotta say you're right. I bought Illmatic cause everyone said it's the greatest shit ever. I already owned It Was Written (one of my favorites) and they told me illmatic was much better than IWW. when I first heard it I was dissappointed as fuck. I basically liked two songs: NY State of Mind and The World Is Yours. Otherwise...nah.

  • @FINbball I know I don't get it either, it's…alright, but the greatest hip hop album of all time, i don't think so. I listen to Black Star, Jurassic 5 (1st 2 albums), Talib Kweli, Ugly Duckling much more than I listen to that album. Each to there own though, we can't all be into exactly the same music or life would be pretty dull.

  • @tazzy27581 yeah you're right. My fav album is Word...Life by O.C.. But if everybody would think Illmatic is the greatest album ever, life would suck.

  • @FINbball ur strange

  • @imalegendyo and you a nas stan. get of his dick

  • Dilla > Kanye

and I like both but thats just how it is son

  • Kanye 's version Murders this shit

  • @mrbigyooo fuck that sellout

  • Why isn't this on the album?

  • Nice.

  • Im a sixteen year old rapper coming up in chicago..check me out Paul Calhoun-Memories gurantee if you like common youd vibe to it

  • never knew this existed...

  • CHICAGO.

  • Common Dilla Q-Tip Dope !!!

  • Let me tell y'all mothaf*cks sumthin'! and especially @MANDINGO19921

It's not bout who's a betta producer. That's sumone's own opinion. It's all about the sound of style u bring in yo beats. when u got a style of yo own that people can hear u r ''Doin' U''. And Dilla Really got THAT. you gotta be with that niggah! nd exually Kanye mentioned Dilla to be HIS BIGGEST INSPIRATION. So suck a dick if U aint with this. even Kanye would shit on you if u aint.

  • @Miltangelo What are you talking about Kanye saying Dilla was his biggest inspiration...you're so full of it. Give me a source for that, I've read that Kanye said he learned a lot from the RZA's style. And you can read that on MTV's article Kanye, Run-DMC, Outkast, Justin Sound Off On Our Top 10 Hip-Hop Groups

    Public Enemy's Chuck D, G

  • @TheQwerty92x "Common shares his memories of James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla aka Jay Dee. Common tells Nick Huff of Hard Knock TV that J Dilla is his, Pharrell's, Kanye's and Questlove's favorite producer. "

  • @ArnthorJon Touche, but I don't hear it in his music at all. I remember now also reading Questlove say that Kanye was inspired by Dilla, however it doesn't sound like Dilla is his biggest inspiration. I just don't hear it at all, maybe a tad on the album Be, but eh. Also google dilla spaceship kanye questlove, 1st link stonesthrow site. Whatever.

  • wtf this is not the song i was searching for. not bad, but not common - be, as the title says.

  • @wonderbreadjumps that is the original version of that song that dilla made. kanye put his own version on the album and dropt that.. but i like both...

  • not dilla..

  • this is dop[e but its not dilla

  • Funny? People on here are like I like Kanye's version better, than dilla's, and this and that, This is clearly not even a Dilla beat. Bandwagon-esque. This is coming from me not even a Dilla head like some cats out here.BOOOO!

  • THIS IS NOT DILLA!!!

  • Eminem's better.

  • I like Dilla better then Kanye but I actually like Kanye's version better then this r.i.p dilla

  • Search "J. Dilla - The Beat: A Metaphor for Hip Hop" Dope

  • real. REALLY real.....

  • This track is insane...JayDee really outdid himself on this one..but both Kanye and Dillas versions are nice..common should have just put both them on the album lol

  • is not Dilla's shit.

  • this isn't from dilla

  • Just because the song has the same name as the Kanye version doesnt make them the same at all. Kanye's fit way better as an into but this joint should have been on the album

  • i know common is the man and all that and he used to be one of my favorites...but then i heard some song he made with the jonas bros. yeah..the fucking jonas brothers...and for that...Im not buying anymore of his shit...fuck that shit.

  • Too different songs, this is Raw hard nosed hip hop the Ye version is smooth and pop flavored... Yay fcukin idiots for putting one against the other.... Good Music is Good Music, no pun intended

  • kanye version is 1000 times better

  • dillas a freakin legend, but i gotta say. kanyes version was better man u cant lie!

  • hey guys checkout my freestyle for the other version of "be"

  • if this would've replaced kanye's version, this album would have been better than resurrection

  • @Smashkid86 J Dilla is my dude, but Ye's version was way more soulful.

  • @TheeCrowing Kanye's beat was nasty, but Common just spits fire on this track IMO.

  • @OldshcoolTypeSoul look here you're either negroid, mongoloid or caucasoid or an admixture of one or more, and in my book all not considered negroid are not to be trusted and will get lumped in with whitey.

  • If you're not black negroid you're caucasoid I do not acknowledge mongoloids because most of them wish they were caucasoid.

  • @MisterCasanovaa tell me what is a spaniard caucasoid does not mean white

  • Stop arguing about shit and enjoy the song you stupid losers.

  • you're before you correct me

  • @OldshcoolTypeSoul your hispanic so what another caucasian black people invented rap, hip hop and jazz rock n roll gospel for sure then white people wanna try to redefine our inventions without us i.e the rock&roll the blues

  • @cmtgforever Present day Hispanics are derived from a combination of spaniards, Indians and blacks you ignorant moron

  • @cmtgforever Another caucasian? You need to go back to school.

  • Nope black music is great white music is imitation.

  • @cmtgforever Nice rebuttle. Look I am Hispanic but that doesn't mean I'm going to get ignorant and say people can't listen to Jazz, Hip Hop, Blues, Freestyle, Rock N' Roll because of their skin color. That's being racist and to be honest, a pompus ignorant. Grow up because you are in the state of mind of a 12 year old.

  • lot of smart dumb niggas on this page arguing about some petty shit.

    enjoy the damn track.

  • Comment removed

  • We don't dance no more white boys and asians break dance. My nigga common is pro black kanye used to be. From Jigga to Waka its all rap lets keep it black or it'll be like jazz or rock n rol.

  • @cmtgforever Jazz is a GREAT musical genre no matter who color does it; white, black, hispanic, asain, etc etc. Don't be so ignorant.

  • Get off the bandwagon half of these clowns never heard of most of the low key producers now they wanna act like the grew up with them guys. Kanye's track has an anthem, revolutionary vibe Dilla's has an old school rap vibe respectively. Since when did nerds and white boys tell black people what was real rap,cuz hip-hop shit is a new term.Gansta,Pro black, reality, party, all rap we do dance no mo.

  • Why are people arguing about whether dilla or ye's track is better? Both have their own finesse that the other didn't. Dilla was an off the wall producer who flew by the seat of his pants creating some of the most well known and respected hip hop every made. His style is second to none, not even ye can touch it. As for work, dilla was producing hip hop far earlier than ye, and even Kanye would admit Dilla has more tracks than him. But that doesn't mean one track is better than the other.

  • Dope Track, but I can see why Common didn't use this song on the album. It wouldn't have fit with the rest of the album. Total different feel.

  • REDICULOUS....grass roots of hip hop!

  • if i can bet that this beat isn't from dilla for 100 dollar or euro then i would do it!!!

i would ask common or kanye who really made this beat 4 reeeeeeel

  • Not feelin' this beat at all, I understand the approach the producer was comin' from, but it ain't working for me. Rest of the album was great though.

  • @ImyManz99 get outta here, this beat is so fly. it goes hard perfectly with the flow of common right here.

  • Kanye West is a great producer but J Dilla makes soulful beats that stick to hip hop. Kanye adds variety to all his music. Both are great producers, IMO Kanye is in my top 3 of all time, but I definitely fuck with J Dilla.

  • Guys can we all agree that both Dilla and Kanye are great producers. Do you think that Dilla would want us arguing about this type of thing? Listen to music, don't fight about it.

  • @Shmoobaybay29 Word.

  • FACE IT!!! KANYE WEST IS BETTER THAN J DILA!!!! IT IS NOT HARD TO BELIEVE AND IT ISN'T BY A LONG SHOT!!!!

  • @MANDINGO19921 lol u kiddin me....dilla shits on kanye

  • @Dschaylizy how?..... You Dilla fans keep saying that, but I'm not hearing many explanations.

  • @MANDINGO19921 ok that was not friendly but everyone got his own favourite producer so i respect your oppinion!

  • u must be on drugs wat the fuck are you on ,do you know who your talkingt about do your research b4 u open ur mouth like that again, dilla lives on

  • @SluDemarco I did my research you angry homo. Kanye has more singles than Dilla, more acclaim than Dilla, and a bigger fan base than Dilla. Know who the fuck you talking to before you start acting hard on Youtube douche fuck!

  • @MANDINGO19921 ummmm, as far as singles goes, maybe, but dillas work quadrouples kanyes. hes got way more material out there. waaaaay more

  • @djdreamproductions No he doesn't. Before Dilla's death, Kanye still probably had more shit than Dilla. Remember, Kanye was a producer well before his success as a recording artist. The way i see it, all of Dilla's shit is already out. Kanye more than likely surpassed him while he was alive, even more when he is gone.

  • @MANDINGO19921 doubt that
