I dont car how a guy swings theres a million different swings the player with the second most hits in baseball didn't even have both hands touching I like the drills though very interesting
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight
man you guys are such losers. if you know allll about baseball you would clearly know that there are about 100 ways to hit the ball. and you pick the one that fits your catagory. not listen to every youtube video. just join the U.S baseball acadamy and youll know.
This guy is a joke. You never wanna make initial contact with the baseball on your back hip. you lose so much power. You wanna catch everything out in front of the plate. And you also wanna keep your weight back and have proper weight transfer. Without proper weight transfer, you'll be an awful hitter. If you watch a major league baseball player swing, all of them have excellent weight transfer. Which is why they are playing major league baseball and this guy is coaching college ball.
This is a great Video for new coaches coaching 12 and under.
Hard topic to teach.
To keep your body from moving forward you take a 2 - 3" Short Soft Stride with your foot keeping your weight back on the loaded leg.
When you start the swing twist your hips throwing your back hip at the ball NOT forward, the hip turns toward home plate while you throw your hands at the ball. Hit 1000s of balls off the to get your timing for starting hands and hip down. Coach John
All these "isolation" drills is part of the problem of baseball...there is no science to any of this. Hitting a baseball is a dynamic activity...practice slow, become slow. Listening to this guy is like listening to the old sensei talking to the young grasshopper a lot of subjective nonsense.
This is from "HITTING SECRETS, Form the Bottom to the Top, video series. With Coach Jami Isaacson. What a joke. Do your self a favor... Try Don Slought and Rightveiw Pro, Mike Epstein and Jake (Mike's son), Charly Lou and Charly Lou Jr. Hell, Though I'm not a fan of his teaching methods try Cal Ripken. Surprising in it's self, there is a reason why this guy is still at Knox College. Well meaning, but be ware!
term my high school coach used is "streach the rubber band" cuz if your forward and you get a curve, your scrwewed. if you keep your weight back more then you get a bit (not much) more time to c it, then EXPLODE when you swing
one day, a boy and a girl named andrew and savannah were walking in the park together, little did they know a killer was behind them. they stopped under a tree and kissed, then the killer raped them, shot them, then slit their throat. then, he buried them in a hole he had dug earlier. now that you have read this andrew and savannahs ghost will be by your bedside with a knife in their hand and rape you unless you post this on 10 other videos in 2 miniutes
this guy is explaining this problem horribly. He s basically trying to say to keep ur weight back. i dont think hes saying not to throw ur hips, becuase if he is...then hes wrong
he's basically teaching to keep your swing balances and don't transfer your weight to your front side too early... good advice and good drills to reinforce that aspect
weight transfer forward before contact is what he is trying to explain...call it leaking call it sliding...whatever...leaking/sliding forward early will cause loss of balance and weak contact...remaining in your swing and driving through the ball is efficiency and power

read science of hitting..."I didnt tell anybody to STOP doing anything. I didn't want them to think that much about it. They worked it out for themselves" NEVER TELL ANYONE TO STOP DOING ANYTHING! LET THEM WORK IT OUT FOR THEMSELF! UNLESS YOU WANT A ROBOT AT THE PLATE
It sure took a long time to partially explain a fundamental step in the hitting movement. Teaching proper weight transfer and distribtion at the point of stride would have saved a lot of time. At the point of stride you are transfering weight to your back leg and foot thus minimizing hip slide. The degree of slide is dependent on the length of the stride. The key is to effectively transfer roughly 60% of the weight back at that point.
About 3 years ago a coach I had noticed I was having this problem, it was a combination of that and my stride I took was too long (I guess they can go hand in hand though) anyway what helped me was taking a stace wide enough that I didnt stride at all, instead I got a leg kick going (think A rod, man ram, etc) and then I was creaming the ball again, so the wider stance defintely helps with the hip turn dilemma
Be careful with your instruction there. Make sure you specify that hip slide should not occur BEYOND the front foot. You cannot eliminate "hip-slide" completely because "hip-slide" is actually weight transfer. And if I'm wrong, then so are Manny Ramirez, Chase Utley, Justin Upton and alot of other pros.
