  • @jaredrums93 your comment makes it blatantly obvious how little you know about playing music. You might as well lump all of the classical musicians in the same category while you're at it. Laughable.

  • Jeap! Chills went true my head...

  • I came.

  • woooouuu!!! fantastic...

  • My god man u fucking rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They´re simply not profound enough.. But you my friend. Keep up the great work!

  • Two thumbs up, Ray..

  • ...Or they are too lazy to practice the perfection that the song deserve to be played!

  • Hey!Dan here from Brazil. I´m not a great enthusiastic on watching people play Rush´s songs because most of them attempts are just drummers pretending to put Neil´s shoe for a song or two. They forget the feeling, and emotion behind every beat constructed, nevermind keeping the tempo, mistakes made on purpose, simply because they (whoever it may be), don´t have enough technique, or know how, or talent, to perform... They´re simply not profound enough.. But you my friend. Keep up the great work!

  • sweet..!

  • Perfect you nailed it! Great job dude, you rock!

  • Awesome Job ! I wonder if there will ever be an inspirational band as rush. I know how about my chemical romance. NOT LOL

  • you sound great Ray but your cymbals sound like poopoo

  • That was pretty awesome man, adding that to my favs!

  • I really love just watching you play (and Rush is my all time favorite). Can I come over sometime and just do that? :)

  • @JennWeed1 Umm...Yeah, ok! :)

  • @rays2112 i bet if she were a guy u wouldn't say that! lol

  • Dude... you rulez!! perfect!

  • Wow!! That was spot on from the original.

  • great job!!!

  • Awesome!

  • You're a stud Ray! Great job!

  • How did Niel come up with this shit. I mean god damn. Good Job repeating it; but holy shit creating it in the first place is just so creative and amazing. It is creative people like Niel that move the world. Thank you Niel, and the people that move the world.

  • Warning to ALL drummers..Wear EAR PLUGS.

  • Great mimic. I know it took a lot of practice, but technique makes the heads sing.

    Sorry, truth hurts sometimes.

  • wow dude you are great!

  • like!!!

  • Nailed that rif in the middle of the song..Neil would approve

  • Very Awesome Job Dude!

  • sweet

I'm not a Rush fan, but I love Pert's drumming

    nice job

  • You can all try to copy him but he's the best and always will be (Wish On) All of you's lol

  • he's like god on the drums no one can (Beat) him and theres only (Neil Peart)

  • @250Bikerboy

    this is truth

Neil has created a lot of technique and innovated the instrument xD

Neil is responsible for influencing all drummers today :)

  • One of my favorite songs. Good choice. True RUSH fans know this song; others know Tom Sawyer. Really nice drumming.

  • Awesome!

  • I guess it's just me but the bass pedal doesn't match up with the audio.

not criticizing, your a total bad ass player I love watching your videos just saying on this vid it doesn't match

  • Lose the skull cap. It's freaking me out. Please don't tell me you ride a BMW cause Neil does....

  • I appreciate your effort in playing this song, but why do you have pretty much everything Peart owns? That destroys the purpose of playing music. Why do you want to be someone else when you could be someone better? Yourself. You're even playing it the same way he is, AND WEARING HIS HAT? Fascination? Maybe, obsessed, definitely. No offense dude, I'm just being plain honest.

  • You're hired.

  • great stuff...bang on!!!....thanks for the post.

  • NEAL PEART IS A GOD...PLAY SOME RUSH BROTHER...

  • 8:55

  • 6:66

  • Awesome job! Very well done.

  • Excellent.. you don't relize how hard this is to play until you see some else do it.

You sounded right on ...awsome !!!

  • Nice work bro. Huh, thoguht I was the cats ass... ha haha...... Well fine, I'm a guitar player anyway.... hah a

  • EXQUISITE BRAVO.... just grand

  • Kick Azzzz Badddd!

  • i actually thought you were Neil the whole time until i read the caption. i was like holy crap you gotta go make a hit record man!

  • yeah. then i wake up...and i'm in the middle of the yyz solo....playing it with a large sausage and a wooden spoon..to the crowd's delight. neil is at the front, screaming like a girl

  • i can play this with one hand, from the bath, smoking a cheroot

  • @PROFBOTULISM

And then you wake up. lol

  • I feel for you dude!! This is an extremely hard song to play on the drums. Being a drummer myself, it took me forever to get it down. Your timing is perfect! I'm sure you'll agree when I'm done with this song....I'm out of breath and rest my drum sticks on my snare. When I hit the last of the cymbals and here the waves....I know I did it!! Best wishes and keep on hammer'n!!

  • Good stuff man! I'm really glad you're not my neighbor though! HA There IS a band though two houses down but they only rock in the summer time it seems, but you're louder than all of em put together; and no real offense to Them.....but you can actually play. HA!

  • wow - good job

  • In the mid 1980s I was in high school living on Rush's music and trying to replicate Neil's work. I Gave up drumming after college but always taped notes out on the computer desk, just trying not to let my chops go. You are hitting Neil's fills with pin point accuracy and hitting notes I've even heard. You also keep impeccable time. Love to see you give Xanadu a shot. Not real interested in all the bell work, I would like to see the time kept and the fills placed. WELL DONE!!!

  • Congratulations on having some of the best crash cymbals I've ever heard in my life. (=

  • wow... that cover completely blew me away. dude, that was some of the best drumming ive ever seen.

On average, how long does it take you to learn how to play any song that length, and perfectly?

  • 36 people have zero musical talent.

  • what kind of drums?

  • Neil is just fuckin wit you guys...

    hahahah

  • serious question: where can i get one of those neil peart african caps? always wanted one. and also...... KICK ASS DRUMS.

  • You da man. Damn wish I could do this.

  • dude, Awesome job, well done

  • you are incrediby talented. I play guitar and I LOVE RUSH. Great job, brother !!

  • Man o man, Ray Harper if you aren't playing professionally, now don't take this the wrong way, you are a fool. That was incredible, I mean you should be playing for one of the super groups making the big money. You have big money talent.

  • I would like to meet the 36 idiots who said that this wasn't very good!! What a bunch of self-absorbed freaks!

  • I wonder how many cops have ever gotten high......

  • You love this song, i can see it, in the fast parts you looked like a machine broke, your arms were moving a lot lol . Great cover dude!!!!

  • great job!But you need a new HH stand lol

  • that was really good you should start your own band, were you trying yo look like neil peart?

  • you did GREAT!!!!

  • dude your awesome! and is that one of the best snare drums in the game? a DW somtin any ways its the sweetest soundin thing ive ever heard! good job bro none of the covers can do wat u just did right there. thumbs up if u agree

  • Brilliant playing... Are those Collectors or Performance series? I'm thinking of getting the Performance Series 4 Piece in Black Mirra but I can get a 6 pc set of Gretsch Purewood Beech for 2,000 and I'm totally torn...

  • How can anyone dislike this?? Seriously 34 dislikes?

  • I was a sophomore in high school when RUSH came out with Permanent Waves. I spent months trying to capture this feeling. I truly love what you did with this. Hats off to you fantastic job!!!!!!!!!

  • @jxxybxxy2002 Me too, those were some good 'ol days.

  • Nice job man no half assing going on here.

  • madd jealous, props dude =)

  • Fantastic cover of neil peart! i am sharing this and recommending this to other people!

  • Great video. Very good cover with a six piece. Totally impressed.

  • Nice!!!

  • This guy is great, the only problem is that Neal Pert and Rush got to it first...

  • different camera would show sticking accuracy.... great stuff Ray....

  • man ... i LOVE the sound of your toms. They sound really great.

And that snare is really great, too.

  • Well done for showing the Dewey Defeats Truman version of the album cover.

  • A complete song in every way - total class and awesome

  • My friend thinks you suck...says my "friend" who doesnt knw a thing about drums! You rule dude...

  • Ray, hows it going? i have watched a few of your videos and i love how you pay your respects to the professor

On an honest note, although i like ur playing, a did notice about 3 or 4 dropins/edits, so this was not done in 1 take.

Another little thing i notice you have the wishywashy hihat sound going on,this can be caused by wearing headphones.

If you take the the left ear off a wee bit more maybe you'll gain more control on ur hats.

    Just an observation bro.

Natural Science is a real workout!

  • realy good job dude... thats my favorite Rush song and I play drums (very, very shitty drumer compared with that) I only can say AWESOME!!!

  • Bravo well done .Where are the drummers like you that actually do their homework, around here in Syracuse.Im a guitarist that actually took the time to learn this (and just about every other RUSH song) to the point like you .When they retire we should form a Tribute band

  • lol the stand on the right has 4 cymbals and a tom on it haha

  • good yob sir

  • Ray, I have viewed countless reposts of people playing Rush, yet have never seen anything so concise, dynamic, or authentic as this. You are a talented man!

  • This guy has got it.

  • That is sooooo cool that Neil Peart covered his own playing. It's twice as good!!!!

  • I really want to hear what the people who disliked have to say about your drumming, I don't understand what their argument could be. You're drumming is fantastic, spot on. Great cover man, keep up the great work.

  • Ray, that was brilliant mate, it really was. You must study Neil even while you're asleep! I thought that I could play a few songs well, before I had a severe brain injury after a motorbike accident. But my brain won't allow me to now, unfortunately, but I wasn't anywhere near as accurate as you are, even back then. But it really is a joy to witness your playing to all the tracks, particularly Tom Sawyer. Please keep up the fantastic work!! Mark MH, SW Wales, UK.

  • I bet that you wouldn't have been able to do it without the hat... aha...

  • dude. not only did you nail every part but it was your great feel that got me. most people who try to play rush songs are stiff as hell but man were you groovin. very nice.

  • @exitplan2 I concur

  • @exitplan2 I concur! Man, I gotta say the feel was great. I have seen a LOT of drummers try to play RUSH songs and this was one of the best. Great job.

  • Really nice job. You played it so effortlessly. Great, accurate cover. I agree with others that this is one of my favorite Rush songs ever.

  • this was the 3rd song i learned to play on drums!

  • Dude that was great! NS is my favorate Rush tune...

  • very nice job, and almost missed the splice. still you own the song.

  • John Bohnam

  • That was completely badass. Pretty much perfect too.

  • IT'S BEAUTYFUL SZWAGIER!!!!!!!!

  • dude you should add an extra floor tom

  • What kind of drum heads are those??!!

  • awsome cover dude, gives me the chills:)

  • Who gives sh.. what hat you're wearing...killer video man!!!

  • awesome

  • real good

  • Epically awesome in it's epic awesomeness. And it was awesome...and epic.

Obviously just kidding - good stuff!

  • Impressive!

  • @46don13 Most Impressive!

  • neil peart is the best ever obviously. I never hear anyone try to argue that

  • @oldrockerdrummer you must not talk to the freaks then....

  • Bloody Hell!! That was incredible... great job on the cymbal choices too! You rock.

  • Two words: Bad Ass.

  • Nice Dude! You have inspired me to go learn to play the drums - at 48! I really do love how the timing changes in Rush songs. Grew up with this stuff in Jr. High and High School and love it! Thanks for posting!

  • i love how the time changes in most of Rush's songs. at 4:14 wut notes are those, i cant tell, looks like u start off with swiss triplets but then end up in something else on the floor tom. you rock!

  • @shaase47 I think they're triplets. And yes this song changes to 7/8 a few times lol.

  • Neil Peart is with no doubt the professor.....he makes joghn bonham look like a amature

  • You're unreal brother. Simply unreal. And i love the hat!

  • Great cover man, I just find it really freaky that you have a very close replica of his drum set and wear a similar hat, and use his custom snare.

    Not saying it's wrong..but.

  • perfect,..hired.

    Great cymbal work...

  • Nice work! And the hat is cool too. Now I'll go practice some more!
