He also inspired Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses. And I agree with everyone who's saying that this guy looks nothing like he did. It looks kind of stupid, but might be worth checking out...
all the movies today that try to be like the original TCM 1974 have always come up short, I have tried to get that same shock and wtf feeling since I first saw Leatherface in TTCM about 1980 but I have yet to find anything close to that creepy, uneasy disturbing movie it's so well made and I don't think it will ever be matched, I did like Ed Gein with Steve Railsback, it was alot better than this movie here!!

The Steve Railsback movie about Ed Gein from a few years ago is incredible. A truly underrated actor. He played Charles Manson too well in the first TV miniseries about him and got typecast.
He was fairly harmless and...well...mentally ill, but when his mother died, who he viewed as a saint and deeply loved, he just went nuts and lost his only sense of sanity. However, his mom was a crazy ass religious nut and his father a bit abusive. He dugged up corpses trying to bring them back to life and used the body parts as clothing or decor, and then he began to see his "mom" who told him to murder. I think it was satan, and afterward he had no recollection of what happened, none.

Michael Berryman should've played Gein (he resembles him), NOT a hulking guy like Kane Hodder. It's like if Hodder would play Stanley Laurel in a movie. It's watchable, but Deranged is a much better movie.

Exactly, that is why he targetted them. He had an almost incestial obsession with his Mother because she was the only woman to show him love and was taught that all other women are the devils work and to stay away from them! Finally, someone who knows that they are talking about!
I read Harold's book on Ed Gein before and really got to know a lot about him. Especially how his grave robbings were a type of companionship for him. He certainly had trouble with people, being teased relentlessly for having a droopy face and his half smile.
Reading the obituaries, digging up the most recently buried. How he wanted to dig up Augusta's grave but that he couldn't get to it. God knows what he would have done with his mother's corpse.
When they buried Augusta Gein, the dirt in that area and the graveyard is very very sandy and muddy, since this was in the middle of a cold wet winter, the rain made the dirt almost impossible to dig through with just a shovel.
So he gave up trying to dig up his mothers grave. He just physically couldn't get to it.
You have to remember, a lot of people second guessed Ed's ability to dig up graves by himself he was a very small man. Not strong at all.
I hoped this movie was going to be the shit since it was based on Ed Gein. It sucked i mean some parts were ok but i didnt like it because he was just so crazy over his mother. Now if he was like going around killing people and making them into his skin than it would of been ausome, i wish it was like the texas chainsaw massacre those movies are the shit.

i rented this movie and i have to say that it is EXTREMELY inaccurate! there was no lady named erica and there was no cop in an accident and his crime took place in winter and and the town wasnt deserted and old.

The better film adaptation of Gein is 'Ed Gein' with Steve Railsback is as close to Ed as there is.
I really enjoyed it.

ya definetley and not just the fact that he looked a fair bit like him but he really investigated ed geins story and did not egsaturate the film. what went on in the film was actually what really happend.

Ed Gein is NOT a serial killer. To be a "serial Killer" one has to have killed more than 3 people with a break in between. He has only killed 2 people.

It's "you're" you half wit. Ed Gein DID only kill two people. The owner of the local pub and the mother of the town sheriff who ran a Auto-Store. He brought Auto Freeze then killed her and took her back to his house. The reason they knew it was him was because he left the receipt at the shop. He wasnt a very bright person and neither are you by the look of your grammar. The reason there were so many other body parts was because he was also Grave Robbing. I highly suggest you read some more.

Also because Bernice's son Frank knew how Ed would come by the store quite often always being attracted to her. Frank always felt so uneasy about Ed's personality.
From what i know, Bernice and Mary Hogan were the closest physically to his mother Augusta.

I read Harold's book on Ed Gein before and really got to know a lot about him. Especially how his grave robbings were a type of companionship for him. He certainly had trouble with people, being teased relentlessly for having a droopy face and his half smile.
Reading the obituaries, digging up the most recently buried. How he wanted to dig up Augusta's grave but that he couldn't get to it. God knows what he would have done with his mother's corpse.

When they buried Augusta Gein, the dirt in that area and the graveyard is very very sandy and muddy, since this was in the middle of a cold wet winter, the rain made the dirt almost impossible to dig through with just a shovel.
So he gave up trying to dig up his mothers grave. He just physically couldn't get to it.
You have to remember, a lot of people second guessed Ed's ability to dig up graves by himself he was a very small man. Not strong at all.

I hoped this movie was going to be the shit since it was based on Ed Gein. It sucked i mean some parts were ok but i didnt like it because he was just so crazy over his mother. Now if he was like going around killing people and making them into his skin than it would of been ausome, i wish it was like the texas chainsaw massacre those movies are the shit.
