I LOVE the fact that she has "big" legs compared to some of the girls we have seen over the past 10-15 years... Nice defined thighs makes an athlete so beautiful, and it shows you don't have to look like a stick insect to become top in the world! She is amazing!

@pointeskatecybunny Oh god yes, I wasn't saying she wasn't skinny, but compared to other rhythmic gymnasts in the past, she has a really nice physique I think. I trained as a classical dancer so I have seen enough of skinny/ill girls to last me a lifetime.

@tedsler Damn true! A gymnast, a true one, cannot look like one of those anorexic models. They have to have muscles and muscles need food to function. An athletic woman always looks bigger than the standard Hollywood starlet but that's muscle, not fat. The ones who can't get the difference shouldn't open their mouths about women's bodies.

@tedsler This is why they call it women's gymnastics. Look up Ludmilla Turescheva (sorry about the spelling). Rhythmic now has a stick-like image (like ballet) and artistic has lost its grace and choreography--too muscular, no true dance.

@nycorbust RG has been for super skinny girls for as long as i can remember. As for AG, you don't have to be ungraceful just cos you have muscles but sadly it has become more about difficulty over the years. I assume it is easier to judge a well executed skill from a less well rather artistry.What one judge likes does not have to be what another dislikes, artistically which then becomes personally/individually. I love Produnova, she was muscles was still she had some wicked choreo.

@tedsler In rereading my comment/your answer, I am surprised that I said stick image. I don't think that at all -- and I could have fit into that category myself when I was dancing/competing. Sorry about that. I do mourn the look of AG--yes, I know it's about difficulty. There was an artistic sensibility in AG that is gone. I will have a look at Produnova. I don't know her. I tend to visit the routines very infrequently but when I do, I become absorbed for hours. Thanks for your response.

@tedsler -- I looked up Produnova. I have a hard time not seeing the broken lines -- ankle to feet-- hard landings -- shoulders too lifted. Gorgeous young person, though. I just have a different set of expectations. I will just stay with RG when I revisit gymnastics.

@nycorbust i hear you and i agree that maybe she didn't have the balletic lines like rhythmic gymnasts. but she did her thing in a very aggressive way cos that suited her style. she was never gonna be the lean swan like khorkina. look up gymnastics from 2008 OG and many FX have music as background and it doesn't really matter when the hand flicks or they take a step. Prod's choreo was fitted to the music, she HAD to be at a certain place at a certain time. :)

well that's an exaggeration (speaking as a former rhythmic gymnast and professional ballet dancer), but her dance technique is better than most, not as distorted to the ballet eye, and she's a wonderful rhythmic gymnast. Very watchable.

Anna is all kinds of amazing and is considered by MANY-to be the BEST RHYTHMIC GYMNAST EVER-damn right she is :) What captivates me the most is her level of expression-an element the others so severely lack. It doesn't take an expert to recognize (immediately) that Anna delivers the highest degree of feeling & emotion. Her routines are alive with soul and passion. just a note: her attitude turn at the beginning is impressive for a rhythmic gymnast bc they seem to struggle with turns. however her leg position is way off, but she corrects it in the final position. regardless, she is amazing and breathtaking!
