Personally I admit to having a Christian worldview not based on anything except on the grace of God, Jesus' death on that cross, burial and resurrection and how he has changed lives around me, including my own because I have allowed him into my heart. Yet I contest that every other thing in life also points to this belief as truth
There is no selflessness apart from self and there is no CHRISTmas apart from CHRIST. So for people to say Christmas was a pagan holiday and visa versa is pointless because for actual followers of Christ LIFE IS all about JESUS and Christmas is simply a time to show what should be in our hearts all year around, it doesn't matter what that day used to mean, it matters what is in our hearts, if Jesus is in our hearts then we WILL change the world because JESUS DID!!!
Sorry, NO holiday has a Christian origin! If some want to spout scripture and about who died for us and all that, they are entitled to their opinions, but if you were an independent third party looking at all this, would you think this whole story is rational? However, people can believe anything they want, including that Allah will give them 7 virgins if they blow up a plane. Doesn't mean there is any fact in it.
can you possibly prove that no eternal life exists? can you prove why humans were put on earth a few hundred thousand years ago, just a few hundred thousand years ago? yes, peoples logic is poor. i can see that.
Irishdandy1: You have it wrong, Pagans have not taken Christian holidays and Christianity is a NEW religion as time goes, and paganism is older by many times. No one has stolen Christian holidays, they stole others as a means to control and convert. And what is Christian anyway? Belief in a God? All religions do that. Belief in Jesus? several do that too. Your logic is not right.
Hmm, the philosopher Peter Singer disagrees with you. He argues that we SHOULD give until we are no better off than the starving. But in any case, you KNOW not everyone will give, and certainly not at the same time, so stop worrying. China benefits from trade, but at what cost? Some people are better off than those in africa, but its only a matter of time before the government can't buy them off any longer. Besides, it's not a money donation - it's a tangible, concrete gift - wells for water.
For a person who doesn't believe, why are you looking at things faith based? God says" only a fool within his heart would say there is no God". You have every right not to believe and I have every right to believe. I don't debate people like you, I just say, " wait and see". May God continue to have mercy on you and may Christ shed his light upon you, the choice is yours. While people are debating his existence, Christ is waiting for his Father's word to go and get his people(Believers only ! )
I think it is wonderful. I agreed with the fact that it was never celebrated by the true early church. Jesus did not make a deal of his birthday, although he came to show us another way, it was his death, burial and resurrection that was more emphasized. Even by Christ himself ! For without his death, burial and resurrection, there would be no Eternal Life ! He told us to remember his death! Not his birthday! The gifts from the wise men was for "Who he Is ",not for us! Give all year in his name!
Yes you all are right that Christmas is originally a pagan holiday modified by the Catholics and that Jesus did not born on Dec. 25, if he ever exist.
However they are right that we are doing too much spending and less bonding with others. And even if Jesus never really existed we can still learn from his story of selflessness and caring for others. That's what's really important.
This was a PAGAN holiday, people danced in the face of a bleak time of year. It was a celebration of excess drinking, eating, partying, and they gave gifts to others, the highest holiday. Sound familiar? Christianity wanted to get rid of pagans & 'stole' their holidays to convince people to convert. They made the birth of the christian god, co-incide with the pagan high holiday. Christ was born in August. So Jesus is not the reason for the season.
he actually is, people aren't actually positive when he was born, he may have been born in august, however christmas is in december as a representation of his birth, not neccessarily his exact birth. why do you think its called CHRISTmas? christmas gave way to pagan traditions, as all the holidays, as people drift farther and farther from God, so does everything else. nearly every holiday has a christian origin.
Yeshua did not celebrate a birthday! not Biblical! and also Christ-mass is Catholic pagan festival. christians did not celebrate it until 300 years after he was born. Also he was not born on Dec.25th.
