People need to realise this a style of Aikido that is a sport... therefore it has rules, like boxing has rules, a fight between the aikido in this video and boxing would not be possible. If you want to talk about aikido as self defence against other martial arts then there are plenty of other videos on youtube
whats all tyhis about boxing an tyson :| mike tyson actually loved aikido apparently, i was watching a documentary and it showed some pictures with him and Sensei Gozo Shioda, and gozo was saying mike turned up to watch alot of aikido courses because he found it really fassinating, so maybe the two arts have similarities
everyone whos giving aikido shit has quite clearly never practiced it and therefore has no idea what there talking about :) soo shh, and get your facts right before giving it shit.
aikido doesnt compete not because of honor, or O'sensei's wishes, or spiritual refinement. Those are excuses not reasons. The real reason is they would get their asses handed to them by Judoka, boxers, muay thai fighters,BJJ ,MMA guys, angry russian schoolgirls, you name it.
Aikido has all this claimed defense ability yet, they refuse to prove it. "we train against grabs, kicks, punches etc.." but only from other aikidoka uke that dont know how to punch or kick or what not.....
Really please explain why kano sensai would send his top students to ueshiba please? If you knocking aikio then you cant prase judo mate they are sisters in many respects.
judo and aikido have the same roots. Why dont you just go fight an aikido sensei? are you AFRAID? I'm a Judoka, and I thought in the same way. However, I was proved I was wrong. Aikido can break your bones easily.
Aikido just shouldn't be compared to judo, because it isn't :S Yes there may be throws that LOOK like judo throws but they're actually not. Some of them granted are such as ippon etc. but not ever single one. & aikidoka's are trained to be able to defend themselves against kicks, punches, grabs & so on because its about timing and when you get the timing right the technique becomes effective.
There are only certain types of aikido that compete. Im in the junior section of aikido and i compete in every competition. I've been doing aikido since i was 8, if you don't know or you're not experienced in aikido then you won't know much about it. So i suggest you stop making bad comments about it. If you are highly skilled in aikido you could easily defend yourself in an encounter without a doubt! Btw this is tanto randori and ninin dori its actually nothing like judo. Shows what you know.
This is definitely Aikido and one of the better videos imho. All that's missing for me is Atemi especially when it becomes more like grappling. I practice traditional Aikido were there is no competition. I see the reason O'Sensei did not want a competitive element to enter Aikido and because of that I think it still needs to be pressure tested in a similar way. Some elements of Aikido are 'dead' for me - a little like Kendo or fencing. Gotta work on what still counts for it to progress?
hmm... i cant seem to open the vid, n i cant remember what this clip is about
i practice aikido too, and the first thing sense told me was that aikido's about harmony n gentleness, so there's only demonstration. Well, mayb after so many years... new aikido styles have developed as well as new rules.
LOL! looks like i need to put more effort to live up to my family's name...
This is bullshit. If those little thingies are resemblance to knifes the aikidoist playing "tough guy" would be killed. This is not a martial art, its a hobby, this is not aikido, this is whatever you would like to call it, but it sure as shit isn't aikido!
If a boxer meets a Master in aikido, will the boxer be able to survive with his wrists intact? For the anecdote, Mike Tyson refused to let an aikidoka apply nikkyo on him while visiting the Yoshinkan Head Quarters.
Because Tyson didn't want to injure his arms and hands not because he feared a hammering. You would have to be damn good (and lucky?) at Aikido to beat a skilled boxer. Most martial arts would suffer against a boxer who is pressure tested all the time.
wat i want to know is that if a champion boxer came up to a aikidoist and started swingin would the aikidoist be good enough to defend against the boxer

i hope noone watching really thinks this how a fight goes down.
and those comments are right aikido shouldnt be compared to judo...
Judo is validated by pressure testing, and strong real technique..... aikido is a inneffective dance form .
And yea a conditioned boxer should have no problem beating the piss out of dan grade aikidoka.

The boxer wouldn't survive the lacerations.

Depends on the level of the aikidoka!
If a boxer meets a Master in aikido, will the boxer be able to survive with his wrists intact? For the anecdote, Mike Tyson refused to let an aikidoka apply nikkyo on him while visiting the Yoshinkan Head Quarters.
