after re discovering my love for the guitar [ after a 25yr. hiatus] listening to mr. pearson inspires me to play ,not to copy him but like Clapton & Beck did when i was young to play better . thanks Jack !!
just goes to show ya - it ain't the ax, it's the man! the industry would like us to think we all need to go mortgage our homes to buy expensive gear or we'll never get "the tone," and here pearson is playing a brand new stock lp, not even a vos custom job, through what looks to be an epiphone amp and the dude's absolutely BURNIN'! note: let's all go spend all that gear money on lessons and just get down on our knees and pray we'll be as good as this before we die. peace
Dang. Brand new guitar, no special set up, just take it and play it like you've owned it for 40 years! Nothin' to it, right? In the right hands, yep.
Man, I used to run sound for him in Nashville in a group he had I think called the "nationals". Anyway, he would bring in this little yamaha solid state amp with maybe an 8" or 10" speaker in it and make it sound like gold. He just has such a great touch. It was cool talking to him about why he stopped playing with the Allman Brothers Band. Dickey is too loud. :)
joe6, he's using whatever Gibson put on stage for him to use. Don't remember what it was (I was there for this), but with Jack Pearson it doesn't really matter. You could plug him into a toaster oven and it would have great tone. He says it's all in the hands, not always the amp. He had literally just been handed this guitar 10 minutes before he conducted this clinic.
@PaulDavidMusic The amp is what Gibson had there for him to use. It looks like an Epiphone from the video. He uses a Tubescreamer at times when he needs a boost. That' it....the rest is an "illusion"!
what impresses me the most is how he effortlessly moves from the slide to finger picking without any string noise and dampens the slide very well to get a clean sweat tone... very few people can do that with a slide.
best slide player since duane allman in my book. think he's a bit better than derek trucks, too. not saying he's bad, but lets see him play something so subtle and sweet.
True that Jack is pretty much perfect when it comes to the subtleties but I don't think you can top Trucks' ability to peak in a solo, to hit that note that just obliterates the rest of the world. He's come a long way since age 9 and that's what he does best.
It's amazing...Les Pauls are known as hard rockin machines, yet you can get the most beautiful jazz tones out of them as well. They are the most versatile guitars out there in my opinion...I own 2!
Used to watch The Nationals every week in Murfreesboro (along with all the other guitarists). Probably the best blues guitarist I have ever personally seen. Was playin a G&L back then I think.
This is just wonderful playing from Jackie, Check out his playing on my good friend Miranda Louise new CD " Sure Cure for the Blues " , fantastic stuff , sorry I missed him at Murfreesboro when we were over in Nashville staying with wee Miranda.
Kindest Regards from Scotland to all the really great people of Tennessee, what a beautiful State it is
this guys great. for some of you who dont know he played in the allman bros for a while...back when derek was still a baby and i think it was before warren came in the picture?
HOLY SCHNIKIES!!!! I watched all 5 parts and now im' going to burn my guitar!! Just kiddin' but dang this guy has it goin on;my new favorite player. thank you for the humbling yet very inspiring vids!!
wow, i watched all the parts. blew me away, made me want to give up playing, made me feel depressed, but at the same time, inspired me to learn some jazz, lovley stuff. total genuis!!!
wow, I'm glad I found this. I hear alot of clapton, warren hayens type stuff goin on. And sounds alittle like derek truck with the slide. He has a very good tone and is very clean.
jackie pearson , what a player !, he is featured guitarist on the superb Miranda Louise's new album out in April on Ripete Records " Sure Cure for the Blues " Cant wait to hear it ,
I have a list of favorite guitarists...Rory Gallagher, Joe Walsh, Steve Morse...and now thanks to Youtube....Mister Jack Pearson. I saw that Allman Bros clip of Blue Sky from '99. As good a solo I've ever heard. thnks for the music, man...Keep it goin'
