How susceptible is it for the screen to get minor hairline scratches or any scratches at that? because that would bug me to hell..I just want to know if i would have to buy an additional screen protector or if the screen will hold up amid constant finger swipes, pen swipes, and day to day use (opening and closing of the folio, the occasional bump on a wall, etc)
If that USB supports flash drives, I am sold. I hate the laptop form factor, so I am wanting a tablet to use in the field to service other people's computers, if we can download say a driver for a computer using that USB port (mostly network drivers), and transfer it over to the computer that needs it using a flash drive, that would be great.
I was fortunate to demo this tablet. I work for a school district as a System Admin. I must say that I'm pretty impressed with the feature set and ability to centrally manage this device. Something as simple as a full size USB input is a no-brainer and I'm not sure why other tablets don't include at least one. I was able to hook up a Logitech k360 keyboard and logitech m510 mouse both using the unity usb key. 40 dollars for both the mouse and keyboard makes it a snap navigating!
@StefnieCompton I called up with several issues and the support team had no clue what to do, they seemed very unfamiliar with Android OS issues, and you cant blame them this was just thrown onto their lap in a few weeks. But there is no support for this tablet. I had to return not being able to get the GPS to work. Maybe a few models into this the TBT will be worth buying but not now.
I just need to hear somebody mentioning "expert(s)" in any presentation to roll my eyes and send my mind to vacations because I know what is coming is usually bullsh*t...
I got this machine out of curiosity and to test out, the Honeycomb Os is no match to Apples OS, its still delayed and choppy as you move things around. I couldnt get the GPS to work and you seem to have a known problem with it. The only advantage with the 1338 is being able to draw, but how many are getting it for this purpose? The price depreciated by 40% immediately after purchase. My ipad 2 still costs the same 6 months later. Sorry but this machine is a waste, and Android is no match.
Can you help me with info where can I buy, in Mexico, a thinkpad tablet. I am an Architect and it is just what I am looking for. Lenovo Mexico does not have this model on their website.
Does this tablet have flash player on it? I currently have an iPad 2 and can't play some videos off of some web sites. The same applies with my iPhone 4. And when I used to have Android phones, I never did have that problem (playing videos from different web sites). And for those of you who will say, 'go back to android'. I won't cuz simply one can't compare the battery life from apple devices to all others. Thanks,...
very cool tablet, once android ice cream sandwich 4.0 is confirmed i will be picking one of these up. i have the x200t now, but the lightness, digitizer and battery life is very enticing for a student, such as myself.
I wonder if there is native support for the stylus in applications such as Sketchbook. This would make a suitable replacement for conventional paper and pen.
Also it has only 1GB memory. My acer notebook has 2 GB ( I have upgraded it) . So does this mean that this one will be a bit of a processing trouble ? Can we upgrade it? What does Android technology mean?
I have a Lenovo ThingPad W series. Now I have to get this one because at work they are buying me one. Can anyone tell me what I will need it for? Privately IO bought a 10 inch emachine notebook and its screen is so small, barely can do a thing. Lenovo laptops are thin and light so, pls tell me what I wil do with this extra machine??
@technotechie Right on, Techno. Been using this thing every day at work, at home, in airports and on planes. Love the pen, love the finger swipe as well. Good to have options.
I've watched your thinkpad reviews and Ideapad reviews now I'm torn. I want to get a tablet, but which tablet is more ideal for me, as a media artist? ( I'm focused on Graphic arts and also video editing/ animation) and which model or models should I look into/ research? thanks guys, great vid!
just so you guys know. your marketing team is great in decieving us that there are 150 dollars worth of preloaded apps or what ever the amount of preloaded apps. they are all DEMOS and are all FREE so its not worth anything. for instance we cannot even use printshare for ever.
on another note, this is a great tablet. i enjoy using it :)
You should add a proximity alarm to the pen so that people have the option of doing without the tether and still have a form of security. I would like to see the next thinkpad tablet target computer science and graphic design universities. If the product is good enough this would work well, perhaps in partnership with adobe and/or autodesk.
I just got mine, here now at a major global conference. I'm checking e-mail, web surfing to check product info, using the con schedule builder, taking notes, etc... after amazon fire, i think all android tablets should just lower the price, i know that the hardware capabilities might vary, yet the regular people shopping for tablets wont care... this is the time that all tablets needs to get real and TRY to compete with apple... we saw what happened when hp announced their touchpad $99 price... people didnt even care what os was on it, if companies like lenovo are relying on geeks (like me) to buy their product then good luck in that.
Looks like exactly what I've been waiting for. I'm concerned about something, however, that may prove to be trivial. I noticed a great deal of very distracting glare in the video (to the point that I could see the reflection of the demonstrators). Is this an artifact of the filming or inherent to the tablet itself?
@StrictlyTopSecret It's probably just a function of the room we filmed in. I just used the ThinkPad Tablet at a gadget event in Chicago last week and had no reflectivity issues with the Gorilla Glass on there. Hope that helps!
I ordered this tablet through Lenovo and was given a shipment date of 08/29 then on 08/29 this date was changed to 09/03 then again on 09/03 the date was changed to 09/06 then to 09/09, 09/12, 09/19, 09/21, 09/24 and then 10/03. At that point it really felt like they're a scam and I cancelled my order. Good for me that HTC Jetstream just came out and I'll go head and buy that instead of Lenovo. Lenovo needs to get its shit straight and work on business ethics / customer satisfaction.

A polite question: As a college student, I am browsing around for new equipment. I am highly interested in this tablet, but I do have a concern about space. I am new to the tablet scene, so I would like to know if I can plug in my external drive via the thinkpad's USB slot and use that for storage as well. Notice: the external drive is powered by what ever it is plugged into, so will the tablet be sufficient enough to power it? Dealbreaker, Thanks so much!
@dadoeboi101 This is not a replacement for a computer, so if you are storing large files etc, you need to keep those files on a standard PC/that external HDD. However, these Tablets come with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB drives as well as an SD card slot that will allow up to I believe a 32 or 64GB SD card. In that sense you could have up to 128GB. In addition, you could use an app like Dropbox or something similar to keep your files synced between your PC and Tablet, allowing for more flexibility.

A polite question: I am an entering college student, and I am looking for a tablet just like this. However, I am worried about space (I am aware that the highest is a 64GB). I am new to the whole "tablet" market-scene, and so I was just wondering: I have an external harddrive (about 750 GB, don't know if thats relevant), will I be able to plug that in via the USB port onto the tablet and use that for space too? Notice: the external harddrive seems to be powered by what ever it is plugged into

@khanz2k Ha, I was there for the filming and I still cringe when I hear the sound of the keys banging on the display. No worries for the Gorilla Glass though...
Hello, very interesting review of the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet. A few questions. I have Lenovo X60T tablet. This new Thinkpad Tablet looks very promising. But as previous tablets have always been windows tablets I am curious to a couple of questions. 1. Can the pen input screen be calibrated? 2. Is there palm rejection? 3. Is multiple language support for pen input supported? 4. Is there a recognition database like in the windows 7 tip. Can the recognition library be updated? Thanks.

Why $30 for the pen when your already charging for the device. If you really want to make users buy the device include the pen. Why charge users for the extra features. This move would be similar to a company such as nintendo not including a stylus in their portable gaming console. Don't be cheap you are allready making money on the tablet.
@LenovoVision Can you tell us about the update plans for the thinkpad tablet? Can we expect a similar support with OS updates (Android 3.2...) as we enjoy for our Thinkpad laptops?
Now, If they would only ship them on time... I ordered from Lenovo the day it was released (the 23rd), and the shipping date has been pushed back twice (orig ship date 8/29 then 9/2, now 9/12). Called them three times and not once has the salesman I originally spoke to gotten back to me with an explanation. Ship date for the Pen just changed to 11/2! If they ship me the tablet without the pen, the should be prepared to issue an RMA.
Tablet itself seems cool but let's face it- the sluggish honeycomb OS is not up to the Thinkpad standard at all. Definitely will not be buying one of these.
Can the digitizer pen be used (with the ease of the regualr pen and highlighters) to mark up the text in PDF files (with different colors and differnet thickness lines) using a suitable PDF based android app?
Asking as I am used to heavily mark up the research articles in my personal reading style and despite all the pdf editors and other tools, I would love to be able to use a digital pen to mark the electronic format of documents.
I would like to know if the Handwriting recognition can handle mathematical equations. If not, can i take notes without converting them with the recognition software.
Pricing is on the lenovo tablet website dude, under pricing:) Anyway, I pre-ordered the 64GB ver. w/ pen obviously, I don't even know why they have it as an option. I'm in college so this thing is going to be with me "awl de time". Thanks Lenovo.
ips panel eh... lenovo, please tell me this sexy tablet doesn't have the light bleed issue ( nightmare)... like **cough**asus**cough** light bleed screen and horribly built ( weak frame ) was the main reason why i returned my asus tranformer. =/
@nbnds Options like opensource. If I own a product I shouldn't have to "Jailbreak" it to make it do what I want. I don't want to feel fenced into any propriety stuff. Everything might be Zen in a "Walled in Garden" like iOS5 but I will be in heaven once someone figures how to run iOS5 apps in an emulator on android.
Linux has 100,000's of Apps. Soon more and more people will get a chance to experience how easy Linux works to find and install things like a free Photoshop competitor w/ apt get.
On the web, they said the tablet is 3G capable, but will be available in Oct. Does it mean there is an additional card need to be purchased or there is another version of tablet with 3G ?
Also, don't forget about the ASUS EP121. It is also a full scale tablet with a full size USB. Ridiculous. The PEN is also integrated into the device. Have you fools even been to a CES in the last two years?
@intellectable Exactly. Jobs has destroyed a billion years of the evolution of the thumb for writing skills. Does any of his APP FANBOY youth club know that tablets can be used for productive work rather than just consumerist, consumption for which the dictator (Hail Jobs) will charge you, and hopefully in the future for each use from the I cloud! S
@intellectable IBM is no longer producing PC hardware - Lenovo purchased IBM's computing division in 2005 and has been making the ThinkPads, ThinkCentre desktops and more since then. They are on their way to being the number 1 PC maker in the world possibly by the end of the year thanks to innovations from IBM and new innovations since Lenovo has taken over!
@xonium Thanks for doing our job for us! Still catching a lot of people up on the IBM-to-Lenovo plot, both across social media and in everyday conversations with friends. Worth noting, too, that our laptop quality has actually gone up (54%, according to our warranty data) since 2005. Not just about market share for us--striving to make the good stuff. Regards.
I have been waiting for a tablet that allows me to create and show a presentation, but allows me to write on the slide using a pen like device, and allows me to save those additional notes actively -- during a presentation, without disruption for the audience.
@cardriverx yeah, documents to go Pro can do that.
pretty slick because I do the exact reverse (send my one notes from my Thinkpad X220t to my Archos 101) to read at the library or outside
That also has a fullsize USB (as lenovo failed to mention) but this one definitely will be my next tab, I love thinkpad products, look like they belong in a business and personal setting and seriously, the nub is the greatest pointing device ever invented.
Question on the "broadband card" mentioned on the order page: If I order a tablet now will I be able to add the broadband card later when it's released? If it is possible to add the card later how will that process be handled?
@ahumeniy won't it inherently be matte to use thinkpad digitizer technology? If it was glossy, it'd have that weird HTC flyer pen use that only works on certain apps
Damn, I think ThinkPad is now officialy the sexiest name in laptops.

after amazon fire, i think all android tablets should just lower the price, i know that the hardware capabilities might vary, yet the regular people shopping for tablets wont care... this is the time that all tablets needs to get real and TRY to compete with apple... we saw what happened when hp announced their touchpad $99 price... people didnt even care what os was on it, if companies like lenovo are relying on geeks (like me) to buy their product then good luck in that.

Looks like exactly what I've been waiting for. I'm concerned about something, however, that may prove to be trivial. I noticed a great deal of very distracting glare in the video (to the point that I could see the reflection of the demonstrators). Is this an artifact of the filming or inherent to the tablet itself?
StrictlyTopSecret 5 months ago

Dealbreaker, Thanks so much!
dadoeboi101 5 months ago

Thanks.

I just bought one for me in my firm. It's really nice to be able to take notes and the full-size USB port is usefull too !
I was using a ASUS R1 Tablet pc before, I don't understand users who said that tablet is too heavy. We are not women, guys !
monarque36698 6 months ago
Why $30 for the pen when your already charging for the device. If you really want to make users buy the device include the pen. Why charge users for the extra features. This move would be similar to a company such as nintendo not including a stylus in their portable gaming console. Don't be cheap you are allready making money on the tablet.

Can the fruit company get Linux running?
I like android but I also like having my options open.
intellectable 6 months ago
@intellectable which options? ubuntu? :)
nbnds 6 months ago
@nbnds Options like opensource. If I own a product I shouldn't have to "Jailbreak" it to make it do what I want. I don't want to feel fenced into any propriety stuff. Everything might be Zen in a "Walled in Garden" like iOS5 but I will be in heaven once someone figures how to run iOS5 apps in an emulator on android.
Linux has 100,000's of Apps. Soon more and more people will get a chance to experience how easy Linux works to find and install things like a free Photoshop competitor w/ apt get.

Plan and simple IBM has engineered the thinkpad tablet to be inclusive verses the velvet rope exclusive.
Think different?
A Tablet without a Pen is like having a Fork without a Knife. O_o
intellectable 6 months ago 17
@intellectable Exactly. Jobs has destroyed a billion years of the evolution of the thumb for writing skills. Does any of his APP FANBOY youth club know that tablets can be used for productive work rather than just consumerist, consumption for which the dictator (Hail Jobs) will charge you, and hopefully in the future for each use from the I cloud! JdubsFTW 5 months ago
@intellectable IBM is no longer producing PC hardware - Lenovo purchased IBM's computing division in 2005 and has been making the ThinkPads, ThinkCentre desktops and more since then. They are on their way to being the number 1 PC maker in the world possibly by the end of the year thanks to innovations from IBM and new innovations since Lenovo has taken over!
xonium 5 months ago
@xonium Thanks for doing our job for us! Still catching a lot of people up on the IBM-to-Lenovo plot, both across social media and in everyday conversations with friends. Worth noting, too, that our laptop quality has actually gone up (54%, according to our warranty data) since 2005. Not just about market share for us--striving to make the good stuff. Regards.

I have been waiting for a tablet that allows me to create and show a presentation, but allows me to write on the slide using a pen like device, and allows me to save those additional notes actively -- during a presentation, without disruption for the audience.
Can this tablet do this?

Can I interface that note app with onenote? Basically, could I use this for all my note taking in college?
cardriverx 6 months ago
@cardriverx yeah, documents to go Pro can do that.
pretty slick because I do the exact reverse (send my one notes from my Thinkpad X220t to my Archos 101) to read at the library or outside
That also has a fullsize USB (as lenovo failed to mention) but this one definitely will be my next tab, I love thinkpad products, look like they belong in a business and personal setting and seriously, the nub is the greatest pointing device ever invented.
