When shifting position, the foot shd sink (沉) to the ground and not doing it with some weight. Imagine the foot step onto the water to the ground without water splashing.
When doing taiji, shoulder dropped and rounded, arm pit open, spine upright and loose but not stiff, all fingers open up with gaps between them, pelvis open, knee loosen, tougue slightly touch the palate or teeth slight biting the tip of the tougue, coccyx tuck in, look straight and relax.
When doing taiji, qi is circulated in few ways and just to mention the common ways are :- a) qi that has accumulated in the dan tien is spread out to the whole body and out through the cells/ skin pores, acupoints, etc and exchange qi from the environment b) qi is derived from the earth thru yong quan and flow thru the meridians c) ordinate with normal breathing and movement to exhange qi with the environment . It is a good practice to do qigong before taiji
At the end of a taiji or qigong practise, it is vital to do a proper "closing " stance. i.e. to bring the qi back to the dan tien or to the earth thru' yong guan. Many a time, the practioners complain of soreness, etc, at certain part of their body. It is good to peck arms, legs, esp. at the joints, knee, and get someone to sofly peck on the back.
Great Grand Master Wu Tunan had trained under Wu Jianquan for 8 years and Yang Shaohou for 4 years, respectively. He preferred the Wu style than Yang style because the former develops "softness" in one's body to absorb and/or dissipate external forces, etc. " Song" gong is one of the many gongfa developed by Wu Tunan to develop "softness" in the body.
" Song" or soft in Taji is when the individual achieves "gap" or "space" between joints, elasticity of the tendons like rubber band, the internal organs in the state of calmness like a water surface on a calm sea, mind free of thoughts, eyes look straight and relax, etc.
When life begins, we are tender and soft. When life ends, we are stiff and rigid. Trees, grasses, animals, human being, in life is soft and pliant. In death they are dry and brittle. To maintain healthy, one must "soft" or " Song" in taiji. Keep all joints loosen, body relax and be natural while mind is conscious of the surrounding.
