  • Gambit really let himself go

  • ... The card so the top cards will be so far that those people will not throw them away because they are supposed to take cards from their sides. Now, imagine the top card is the card which must remain and you will see what I mean (look how cards are spread). At the last 4 cards FIRST he tells her to choose one card. If it is the right one he will tell her to hand in. 1/4 chance. If not, he tells her to choose other card with other hand. Now the second is correct he will say give them to me and

  • Not so amazing if I tell you how it is done. Ok so when he touches the cards around 1 50 - 2 10, he puts the third card on the top to be 2 of hearts. This is coming from his pocket when he puts back the wallet or uner the table or he is so good that he changes the order in the deck but i dont think he is so good. Ok, this is obvious because he is so focused on this hard thing that he repeats in his story "it is called". Now it is simple because he starts spreading with the person which choses...

  • She shuffles better than the other random dude lol :p

  • He palms the 2 of hearts from and put it to the top of the deck in between 1:53-1:59. That was the hardest part of the trick.

Then he starts talking lots off bullsh** about this japanese movie in between every time he spreads the cards. This is just to distract the audience from noticing what he`s really doing, which is spreading the cards away from the person before telling themr to pull away some cards. The top card always stays on top. And in the last few cards he just uses a magicians force.

  • @admiralgman1 For the last 4 cards he uses a different technique. He knows which card is the 2 of hearts (it was the card on top). When the lady picks 2 cards, if the 2 of hearts is one of those cards he would have retained them and put the other 2 away. Same when she picks one card. Of course there's no way to prove that this is what he would have done, but it would have fooled them just as well.

  • Play the video and hold down 0

  • He's on Deadwood

  • basic weak ass trick , amateur hour

  • @yates2718 @Vanguard448 It's called a magician's chatter. It's a key to most magicians' acts, although there are a few who pull off the silent illusion very well. But not most. (In fact, chatter is considered a skillset all to itself.)

  • and that, my friends, is how you create an amazing illusion just with presentation. brilliant work.

  • @JSLSampaio what is the illusion?

  • @LucaTurilli89 well, to find that out, you could... I don't know... watch the video?

  • merely a handpalm at the start then a return to top after shuffling. Lastly a magicians choice. A bit dissapointing for a man of ricky's calibre

  • the trick is super easy to do. amazing idea!!

  • @yates2718 Distraction. If they're focusing on what he's saying, they're less likely to notice some slight-of-hand.

  • when he was saying "push it away" or "give me that one" and such he probably knew which one the card was the whole time. but everyone else probably figured that one out too though

  • I think while we were all listening to his story, he did some crazy crap we would never notice unless we put all focus into cards.

  • Man the film he is talking about was sampled in the song 4th Chamber by GZA at the beginning!

    WU TANG FOREVER!

  • @ArtificialBeavers cool story bro

  • i know how to do the whole trick except the part of how he gets the two of hearts to the top. He wrote his prediction while they were shuffling so he had to somewhere find the two of hearts and get it to the top. If someone can tell me where he moves the two to the top plz fill me in. I know the card is third from the top but still he has to find the two and move it there.

  • *tells entire story*

    ......cool story bro

  • That long boring story for a simple force at the end of the trick

  • if you notice after 3:45 when he starts laying down the cards he picks them up and changes the rotation of the spread each time one of them takes away a bunch, keeping the end card safe from elimination. obvious force, not very easy to catch when listening to the story

  • Stfu and do card trick, okomi game sucks hard -.-"

  • can anyone actually tell me exactly how they did this?

  • Not a set up, he was doing a trick that would be easily spotted by the spectators, but he was distracting them by telling them a story.

  • I saw the push. human nature left her to choose the closest card to take away, interesting choice of distraction however

  • he somehow forces the card onto the top, slight of hand or otherwise and then its all to do with the direction he sweeps the deck.

the choice bit im not sure about

  • @Joelalati I thought you had the right idea, but at the end the top card isn't chosen its the card 3rd from the top

  • @When there are six cards left, he specifically tells the woman to take a "couple" cards. So she took two. He then tells her to put her hands on two cards. If she had, by chance, put one of her hands on the third card, he would have told her to keep that card there and push another aside. If not, he gets rid of both the cards she put her hands on. Either way, he's left with the third card plus another card. Then, the same thing for the last move. Thus, he is left with the third card.

  • @DrMonkeymint Great! So now we know how he got it out from the top. I know how he kept it on top, and all we need is to find out is how he first put it on the top.

The way he kept it on the top (in case you're interested) is pretty simple: By spreading cards exactly so the top would always be away from whomever took "a bunch" of cards (you'll notice he always spreads them from the person who needs to take the card to the other one).

  • @someman7 I'm thinking about making a tutorial for this. But I feel like that would kind of be a low blow to mr. jay

  • he had a two of hearts in his palm before he opened the deck of the same brand.

  • Fuck haters. All of them.

  • It's amazing how many people watch magic videos and call them fake.... OF COURSE THEY'RE FAKE! IT'S MAGIC! CAPSLOCK RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CaptainBeaverino its curious how the "real" magic doesn't exist and the magic that exist is called fake.

  • @ogirdora What a ludicrous statement. It's "curious" real magic doesn't exist? I don't know of a single magician who claims to be able to do"real magic",because there's no such thing as "real magic". The purpose of magic is NOT to persuade you that real magic exists, but to entertain you by making you creatng sense of mystery and wonder, to do the impossible. It's the very fact that magic doesn't exist that makes the art so great.

  • it's NOT "ludicrous"... In fact i agree with what you are saying, are you sure you understood what i meant to say?

  • @james121515 Probably true. But if you really could do magic and you are the only person in the world who can where would you hide, with illusionists.

  • Also, pause @ 3:49, you will see that he take a peek at the card. Obvious set up.

  • They were both in on it:

Watch carefully, the card was on the bottom of the deck, the way they cut + folded the cards caused the bottom card to ALWAYS stay there. No matter what.

  • this was the first card trick i actually figured out compared to this one /watch?v=UWvRorX0KhQ

  • i zoned out so many times watching this because what he was saying was so dull. Which is a shame because I normally love Ricky Jay!

  • he was good in Tomorrow Never Dies

  • Lonewolf and Cub. Great movie. Greater read.

  • Interesting

  • pause at 0:47 the two of hearts is at the bottom of the deck good trick but he made the story way too long

  • she is in on it.. she carefully shuffling the cards.. try better

  • @stib858 she is not in on it, he is a classic in magic.. try better

  • love the movies, love the trick, thanks for the upload

  • I will rock all you guys man whos down to play the real thing with me? Let me know we can play webcam poker on pokerview so we can see eachother real live face to face.

  • 2of hearts was about on the top of the deck. As u can see he srpeads the cards out to the same direction and tell them to take some ,so top cards are always remaining. When he leaves 4 cards is easy. You can manipulate their choice by taking out or leaving in the cards they chose

  • If someone you know refers to themselves as a raconteur, you tell them, "Ricky Jay is a raconteur. Penn Jillette is a raconteur. You just talk too much."

  • 5:53 he kinda forgot to show his prediction. lol

  • @Zepp710 He did it on purpose ;)

  • @Zepp710 did you watch the rest of the video??? he does show his prediction

  • @bombydruful dude i did. if you watched it he kinda made it seem like he forgot to show it cause he was like "and it IS The Two of Hearts" making it seem like that was his final statement

  • this thing the choice thing with the ball or the sword i think it is in red dragon jet li is in it

  • type 'he can turn a pack of cards into a turtle' into you tube

    it will amaze you

  • i can't trust him

he change the direction of cards when he say ( take a couple of cards ) so the top card stay the same

  • i can't trust him

  • that was shit

  • He's totally macking on that lady and ignores the guy. hahaha.

  • Wu tang it

  • like the guy said before. if you think this vid is just about the trick you have missed the point of Ricky Jays Genius.

  • Wu-Tang Clan Features this movie in one of there songs

  • Wow, this story is told on one of the intro's for a Wu tang clan song.

  • Really great story but I wish he wouldn't do the whole "now take some cards off the bottom of the deck" thing... could have been more impressive than it was.

  • @lIThorIl Don't Reveal TRICKS !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have got this trick on my channel. I also have a contest on there.

  • Who cares about how easy a trick is, he has AMAZING showmanship, and he took a fundamentally easy trick, and turned it into a small miracle

  • That was a very long way to do that trick but I loved it. If I didn't know how to do it I would b very impressed.

  • i thought it would be something amazing with cards, but no..some wierdo talks 6mins nonstops about japanese suicide :D

  • @AcylumEU Bro this is Close-up Card Magic & not Streetmagic. Card Magic isn't just visual effects. There is a love & hate thing with Card Magic and if one is a very fond of Card Magic he has to accept that fact. Not all Card effects are great as well, that's why if you like powerful effects then it's your job to research on them. Being a magician is not easy bro.

  • @AcylumEU lol agreed, easiest trick ever

  • I think I know how this is done...Somehow, he manages to put the 2 of hearts on top off all the cards. Then he makes his spectators take card from the BOTTOM of the pack, thus leaving the uppermost cards. Then, when he gives you a "choice", but it doesn't matter which one you pick - if you pick the 2 of hearts, he'll show it tho you, if you pick the other, he'll make you discard it...

  • @zemitoqdemige

Hmm i can see ur point! Great. So after he "manage" to get the card on top of the rest, when he spread the cards, he push the 2OH away from the lady (since she will discard anything towards her). Of course if the lady discard cards which is at the other side (from middle towards the guy) , this will spoil the magic.

  • GZA had this story in the intro to his 4th Chamber

  • I like the story's arround his magic. It makes me travel in time :-)

  • for some seconds the camera only shows ricky jay and the guy and leave the woman out what i believe is that is a camera trick and the woman replaces the deck with a deck of 1 type of card what makes me believe that is that ricky asks the woman to give him the deck exactly the same time the camera shows her again

  • @makeris32 There is a subtlety on the handling of this trick. No camera tricks, this magician is really good and very smooth in presenting the effect. Other than the "magician's choice" I know there are other principles in card magic that he's using... trust me, there's no camera tricks here.

  • he spreads them somehow that the spectator pushes cards away from the bottom of the deck....dunno how that helps though.

  • well, i tried to figure out what he does , and i found out a couple of facts...

the story is obviously a distraction for the spectators, and the part which he opens his wallet and shows his pictures isn;t random...the main part of the trick is hidden in that part, and that's those who are much smarter than me can figure out what he does there..and i know that he didn't change anything when the woman put the shuffled deck in front of him but when he says take away cards,

  • This man is a true wizard and master of the elemental forces of nature.

  • @presbarkeep or ur just retarded....

  • @funkyfresh63 or you have no idea what sarcastic humor is. welcome to the internet, buddy. everyone's had a first time.

  • @presbarkeep sarcastic humor isnt even the proper phrase btw....but u know everyone's had a first....

  • Look at the card under the fan from 2:30 - 2:33. :)

  • at 1:54 he palms 4 cards and places them on top of the deck. when he spreads them, the top of the deck goes away from the person therefore the top 4 never moves. now you might think that the top four are all two of hearts but only one is. he knows the third card is the two of hearts so he forces her to pick it. if her hands landed on the first and second, then he would take them away, but if it landed on the third and fourth, he would take the other two away

  • i think i know how

okey first when he put his hand in his pocket i think he take 4 cards wich are 2 of hearts

then when the lady give hime card he put the 4 cards (2 of heart ) on the top

then if you make attention he spred cards frome the right and frome the left just to

let the 4 cards on the top as they are so that's it you can make a conclousion .

sorry for my weak english :)

  • hes such a wanker r0fl

  • on the 1:55 he takes from is pocket four cards and all of them are 2 of hearts if you can see he makesthe man and the woman take only the button cards from the deck he say to to the woman at the end to take a coupel of cards and then the only card can be in the four cards is a 2 of hearts and no it!!!

  • You can tell that just how he handles the cards that Ricky Jay has a general respect for cards. The other 2 people were all like bending them when they shuffled them (especially that one lady), but Jay was just so smooth with them. They didn't even know how to properly hold them, but he did. When your a magician, I guess you can understand where I'm coming from (I know Jay probably can).

  • honestly, this trick is simple, there's nothing to doubt about it. however there are still some people who speaks like they know a lot about magic but still reveal the wrong answer. he really did nothing to change the order of deck. in a simple way to explain is...he is using one marked card and force them to choose it. that's it.

But as "BasterdW" said, doing a trick is simple, doing a trick with a great presentation is a whole different story. ricky jay is really a great magician.

  • lol at the end he says, "...and it IS the two of hearts" and got no reaction, then remembers he hasn't shown them the 'prediction' yet

  • @Smeagollum86 dude thats just part of the act acting stupid

  • it was a good trick, he was great at forcing the card.

  • This video sits at the intersection of a large number of my interests.

  • He always keeps top on the other side of the man/women, and when the women chose 2 cards he could eather say push a side or leave it there.

  • easy trick!!!!! lame story as well. its simple card control, whatever she picks he tells here what to do with the card until she finally grabs the right card and then the crappy lame ass story ends

  • The secret to figuring out this trick is not thinking about it too hard.

  • He surgically removed the 2 from the deck ahead of time. Then he added it to the deck by palming it when he was putting his "wallet" in his jacket.

  • He is the Chris angel of card tricks

  • @im99mining no.. ricky jay is actually good

  • what the actually fuck? ricky has god like powers with cards maybe?

  • This is such an easy trick done in such an amazing way... just wow...

  • Ricky J is a great student of history as well as a great entertainer.

  • 3:48 he peeks at the top card

  • Ricky Jay is a theatrical genius. This is what magic performances should be. Forget the Las Vegas shows with their flashy lights and animals. A true illusionist needs only an audience and his chosen medium.

  • Sorry to say it was a bit too slow. the final reveal was a bit boring really, ive seen much better tricks than the old, choose a card from the deck, oh look I wrote it down on a piece of paper we had at the start.

  • I only watch his 'tricks' for the performance and presentation, I couldn't care less about how easy/hard the trick is

  • this is really impressive....too good to be a trick

  • He always places the top card away from the person whos taking a bunch of cards so the top card never gets taken away,

  • @coloneljade at the end , the woman can choose any of the two cards left, obviously they weren't two cards of 2 of hearts.

  • I wonder what would have happened if she picked the other one :P

  • i get the idea of forcing the card, i do similar tricks, but to that extent takes some serious skill, i may have just found my new favorite magician, this guy is amazing, and agree with PrestyGomez, the trick isnt all of it, but still, awesome

  • They were only given the "ILLUSION" of choice. That card was always going to get picked from the start.

  • i don't get it

  • bbut the 2 of hearts isnt even the top card or is it?

when she choses the card was the 3rd last card

  • "Choose the sword and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother in death. You don't understand my words, but you must choose. Son, come boy, choose life or death." GZA - 4th Chamber (Sword of Vegeance reference)

  • comon show the hoole youtube how to do your tricks!!!!!!

  • When he's going in and out of his pockets he gets the 2 of hearts card. He's holding it in his hand and he places it on top of the deck. He then just keeps making sure the card stays where he wants it (on top). Then at the end he lets her "choose". Whichever card she picks he'll decide if that's the one to get rid of or keep so the 2 of hearts stays on the table.

  • i figured this out from the first time i watched it,

The first time he spreads the cards for the woman to choose, he spreads it away from her (towards the man), then asks her to take a bunch of cards (which is irrelevent because she's taking cards from the top of the deck.

However when he wants the man to take cards off, he spreads them away from him (towards the woman)

By using this way, he is forcing them to take cards only from the TOP of the deck.

You can probably figure out the rest

  • Haha...i dont think u figured right....better watch it again or let magic do it

  • yeah but the lady aty the begining suffled them thouroughly or other wise wuffled it really good....os its magic

  • um ur wrong in a way. the card is on the top and he is taking cards away from the bottom the whole time. he looked at the card on the top when she finished shuffling and changes his prediction with the picture used as a"fan"

  • Very nice!

  • but seriously i think the movie he talks about is the worst samurai movie i ever seen.... not only the cup is annoying but everything the fights and everything is badly made in my opinion.. but i must admit the idea with the sword and the ball i just love its so great...

  • i know how he did it but I can somebody explain me the last step where there were two cards left. He said give it to me. What would happen if she gave the other card?

  • if she picked the right card, he would have did the same thing, but if she picked the other card, he would have told her," now the card you picked is the card we are going to get rid of."

  • @BCObozeman he would probably get rid of it himself, and say like 'this is the card you have choosen to get rid of', the other is.. ta da. lol

  • Lone wolf and cub!

  • from the start, he could see the bottom card because the spectators shuffled that way

  • I know he uses card forcing to make her chose the card he wants. But how does he get that card (two of hearts) on top of the deck and how do did he know it before to make the prediction?? I'm propably missing something.. Can somebody explain a bit? Thanks.

  • @JNovak92 looked at the bottom probs. Lmao

  • Great trick.

He uses the card forces in such a clean way.

  • 1:58-2:08...!!

  • That's the point, moron.

  • It took me a few times, but I finally figured it out. Even so, still a great trick, and even vetter performance.

  • sooooooooooooooooooo easy and kinda obv tbh

  • real simple....he speard it each time to a different deraction

so the 2 of heats is in the oppeset to the person who takes some cards aside...

then at the end its simple cards forcing...if the cards she chose are not the 2H and something so he push them away if they are hell just say ok keep them and push the other 2 away...but great presenting

  • 1:56 is the trick :) pure genious

  • @jinzo94 I SAW IT LOL

  • that's called forcing a card!

he MADE them chose that card!

he allways keeps the card away from the person wen he spreads them so that they can take some of the cards!

  • But they mixed the deck :-) so.... how did he know which card is his??? :-)

  • fortinbras47 kinda ruined the ending, the rest is even easier, just keep your eyes on the top card and tell me if you notice something...

  • it is in fact very easy, Jay is just a very good performer

I know a card trick that uses a similar method, if you want to know how Jay does it, just PM me, won't ruin it here

  • Who want's to know how this trick is done?

It actually is quite an easy trick but the way he does the trick is really cool. i mean the story and all. I won't put the explenation out here, but if you really want to know, pm me.

  • This is really simple. Obviously he uses real magic.

  • @CaptainChaos Hahaha!

  • This is what i think. I think that if you CAN NOT do what Ricky does please do not say his trick is very easy. He is one of the best well known magicians Alive. Again, plz do not comment negative things about him because you can do his tricks. And most likely, I probably am a better magician than most of you idiots and im 14.

  • everyone is like "very easy trick" but no one's actually revealing how it's done. nice.. just a bunch of dumbasses ;]

  • @nblaze111 It is an easy trick, but it's not the complexity that makes it a good trick. It's the performance that makes it so good. Ricky Jay is a great performer.

  • Comment removed

  • @nblaze111 He loads the deck with 4 equal cards on top at 1:55. He keeps the top cards always away from the audience when cutting them. In the end, he specifically asks her to take her "a couple of cards", so that 4 cards remain. All cards are the same, her choice doesn't matter. He puts the other cards away. When he reveals the cards in the end, he returns the copies to his right hand. That is how it's done. Couldn't explain any better in the character limit.

  • @had3l nah 1 card is enough

  • @had3l I thought he just loads one card and uses a force to make her pick the 2 of hearts.

  • @had3l and also at 2:32 and 2:55 he makes sure that those same 4 cards are on the top while the other people take away parts of the decks(the tail ends of the deck)

    not the top =]

  • @nblaze111 idk how he gets the card on the top but he could prolly just had it in his hand all along and just stealhy placed it there when he spreads the card. and when he spreads he always have the top card away from the person removing cards, so the top card is never removed. and when its 4 cards left she places her hands on 2 cards, if she placed her hand on the right card he says *keep those card* or discard those card if she didnt. same with the last 2, gimme that card, or discard that card

  • @nblaze111 No one's revealing the secret because there are others ways to do it. Some of them doesn't really know how it's done. And I know someone in here knows the real works on this effect. Revealing the effect is against the magician's code and we should all respect that.

  • Hey! I really want to know how this trick is done, becouse it seems it lends itself to very creative patter and I would like to perform it for some friends. If anybody REALLY knows how it is done please send me a message. I DO NOT encourage anybody to post the method here, becouse there are many people who just don't want to know, and it is disrespectfull to ruin it for others.

  • palms a card a 1:59

  • If you think that this video is only about a trick, then you're missing 90% of the genius of Ricky Jay.

  • @PrestyGomez : The comment from BasterdW is the most arrogant thing I've ever read. Cannot imagine the hubris of someone who would post such words about The Master. He has, indeed, missed the genius, but also the wonderful humor of this most entertaining of men.

  • @PrestyGomez Indeed, it's not about the trick. It's about the performance and how you bring the trick onto the audience/spectators. Knowing the trick is an essential starting point, but there's a long way to get from there to the finish, which is leaving people feeling the same way Ricky Jay leaves them: baffled.

  • @BasterdW Hmm I'm sure nobody cares if you figured it out or not.

  • @neko2808 I know that. I think Ricky Jay is a great person and I love the story with the card tricks. Im doing card trick myself and I was quite happy to figure it out

  • @BasterdW Ok, I understand that. Sorry for the cynical comment and whish you good magic.

  • i love the pause after he sais " it IS the 2 of hearts"

  • Easy trick.. very well executed though

the guy is kindda hiper dont ya think?

  • <
