Why not side by side?

Any subject closer than about 12 ft requires a smaller interoccular than the side-by-side camera position will allow for. Shooting close-ups with a side-by-side causes eye strain and bad 3D.

Yes it can. Do those cameras gen-lock. Always use gen-locked cameras to shoot 3D.

Thanks for sharing this information. I've not had the chance to shoot with a split beam rig yet, only parallel. Seeing the rig in action is really helpful.
