Very pretty color! I might have to try that sounds like it's worth trying. I just did a review of a "Barbie Pink" color on my channel. It is by Revlon the Color Stay Nail Polish.
Have any of you tried Gelac? I was looking around for a fairly inexpensive brand and that one was pretty inexpensive. What about Red Carpet Ready Manicure? It's at ULTA and is an at home gel system.
@MsZombiecom well I bought the exact same cnd products and the light and it is working fine - base coat - cure - color cure- (2x) top coat cure and clean off tackyness... sorry but it works great!
I bought the CND brand and love the thermal spa - the only thing is you actually can use rubbing alcohol to remove tackyness... not necessary to buy the "cleaner" just a helpful hint. Thanks Lana for turning me onto DOING it at home and saving money!
Hi! Thanks for the shellac video. I was wondering when you remove the shellac polish do your nails seem thinner or weaker than when you use regular polish? I have natural long & strong nails & don't want any damage but doing my nails every second day is a bummer!
@1nancycdn doesn't damage nails - I have nails for the first time (used to bite) and mine are pretty strong yet flexible, I use vitamin E oil and "hoof alive" to keep them strong and have found NO issues with using the CND products (only one I've used so far!)
You nails look lovely. Just keep in mind....if you put regular nail polish over the gelish...only remove the regular polish with non-acetone remove...if you us acetone remove you will damage the gelish. :)
Lana, thanks so much for the video, I think you did a great job! Please please please tell me where you got that beautiful ring! Is it sized or does it have a stretchy back? Have a great day! :)
A tip for those on a budget - you can find UV lamps on ebay for $25 buck and free shipping from Hong Kong. I got mine of ebay and it works but it can only fit one hand at a time. Wish I had paid more for a two hand version like Lana's. Also the Red Carpet Manicure gel system at Ulta is the cheapest I've found and if you don't like it for any reason you can take it back for a refund.
Great video. I was going to the salon and having this done every two weeks but I am so happy there is a kit that I can just do this at home. Thanks for this video.
Forgot to say that one of the first videos I ever saw of yours was your How I color my own hair and I think that might have been the video that got me to subscribe. I love it when people take charge and do things for themselves. xoxo Deb
I think it's wonderful how all these companies are coming out with things to allow people to do things themselves at home. Not everyone wants to go have someone else do these things and would prefer to do them ourselves. It's fun and challenging to learn new things. If you want to try something else new that really lasts and is much simpler the new Revlon Colorstay polishes if used with their base coat and top coat will last for a week without chipping. xoxo Deb
Wow that Manicurist is very slow! I do this for a living and it takes 1 hour with soaking off of old color. The cost should be $35.00 to 40.00. Sorry you had such a bad experience. LCD light takes 3 mins LED light takes seconds to cure gel
WOW, I have gotten Shellac nails twice, and both times I paid $25.00 with a 5 dollar charge to remove it, and it took them maybe 30 minutes to do my nails. Maybe go to a different salon? Check out different prices? 3 hours and 50 dollars is alot of time and money!
I may have to watch again to get everything but do you only have a limited number of nail polishes that you can use with this? Sorry if you have already answered this question I love your vids. My! What happened to your hand? Hope you heal quickly! ~Susan~
Could I do this without the cleanser and can I use regular pure acentone remover? I want to buy the stuff but don't wanna spend that much right away. Eventually I'll end up buying a cleanser and remover.
@xcrnner1218 you need alcohol to remove the tackyness - but yes you can get by without the cleaner. You will need acetone but it was cheap 4 bucks? It's totally worth it. Thanks to Lana I am doing my nails at home now!
thanks so much. My husband and I are going on a cruise soon. This will be the first time we have been away (by ourselves) since having kids, 16 yrs ago. I didn't want to spend 50 dollars to have my nails done and it only last 2 weeks. I can put the 50 dollars toward getting a light and a kit and have pretty nails for my cruise... great video and explanation!!
I admire anyone who can do their own nails (and hair cuts ... my husband does my hair colour, but don`t tell anyone sssushhhhh ). I just don`t have the talent or the patience, plus I'm so perfectionist, it would never be good enough for me ;) Great video, thank you for sharing.
@camomille600 I thought the same thing as I just stopped biting my nails and never did use polish - it doesn't take long to do it well... if I can you can!
Shellac is the name for the gel by CND, just like Axium is the name for OPIs gel. Gelish is another brand of gel manicure. They are all the same but I'm not sure if the products (base/top coat) are interhangeable so it's good that you got them both.
Your nails look great...I am very impatient about doing my nails..I always mess up one or two nails..LOL What on earth did you do to get 7 stitches? ..Hope Henry is well..
Hi Lana, I'm so glad you did this video! It was really informative and I think this is something I'll consider investing in or at least trying out. I wish your hand a speedy recovery <3
Thanks for the video , I love all your videos your a hoot, im really not worried about an spf for 6 minutes in a dryer once every two weeks, sheeesh lighten up peoples LOL
Thanks for this Lana, I'm training to be a beautician.. my course doesn't cover Shellac or Gelish.. When you said it took 3 hours at the salon, I'm guessing you were given a manicure with the gel.. A manicure takes 30 mins, but they do care for nails.. so your nails are in good condition.. But, yes you've convinced me to get this and do it as a service Thanks Honey XX
I've been using Red Carpet Manicure w/ their light since it came out last yr. I think it works well but does not stay more than a wk on me. Im very hard on my nails prob though - a reg polish doesn't last 1-2 dys So I'm happy. I don't use often cuz I don't want my hands in a UV light much. I use Chanel's 50spf sunblock & let it soak in 4 15 min 1st. Hopefully that is blocking the UV light.
Id like to try shellac & gelish w/ my RCM supplies 2 xpand my color selection & c how long it lasts on me
You did a great job Lana-applying and reviewing! I am a DIY girl too and sure wish I could use something like this. You have nice nails! My poor ole sad nails could never take the wear and tear of removing this product :( Have been getting 5 days out of my current nail polish "system" LOL which is great for me as I can destroy polish in 24 hours or less. Take care sweetie! XOXO Jan
Great video, Lana! I love watching videos of women applying nail varnish etc, I find it so calming to watch the process. However, I rarely use nail polish as I type 8 hrs a day at work (and more at night) and got fed up with the chipped polish occurring within a day. However, this Shellac process looks amazing and I would seriously consider treating myself to the kit. Thank you, petal! Oh, you didn't say how you cut your poor hand - hope it's better soon! Lou xx
Great job Lana, thanks for sharing. My nails have gotten so weak lately, does this gel/shellac cause any damage to the nail? I've tried fake nails and loved the way polish lasted but they felt so creepy I only had them one month. I love to garden and even w gloves on my polish just doesn't last.
i wear the kiss press on nails, they look and feel great and last for two weeks, can you put that product over them? do you think that lamp would melt them?
I like this. With sunblock on the hands - or even gloves cut out for that very purpose (I collect vintage gloves) and wear gloves EVERYDAY for sun protection. This will solve my phobia about salons. I've gotten hurt before and aside from all that - it's the dreary 'making small talk with strangers who have you by the hand and foot - that eeks me out.
Lana! How did you cut your hand? Oh, well! I love your spirit of do it yourself. I am like that too. I figure there are many things I can't afford, so I just do them myself! Not being able to afford fresh flowers daily, I just grow them myself! Love you nails. I'm going to have to try this. I have a lot of trouble with chipping, but as a teacher, very little time to do my nails. Brava! You did great!~Dana
Lana thank you for sharing this information. I am a nurse and constantly wash my hands so wearing nail polish is very hard to do, however I may try this home system. I am always self conscious about my hands and fingernails and always coveting those who have such soft and youthful hands. Thanks again.
Lana, You look beautiful!!! and your nails look so professionally done. Love the nail color you chose.....so lovely with that pearl ring. Thankyou for the video.
P.S.: The entire demo, I was thinking Lana, hope you won't mess up those beautiful white countertops! Maybe place a paper towel or a work mat next time?:-))
thank you so much for taking the time to do this, much appreciated! very tempted to give it a go, not everyone has the time/money to go and get it done at a salon (I colour my own hair too!) will watch a couple other videos just to get it into my thick head! I think you did a great job with yours xx
Thank you for all the work you put into this! It looks like you did a lot of editing and you really thought it out XOX
I'm so sorry you've got such a bad wound :( What happened??? XOXOX (For what it's worth, it looks like they did a really good job with the stitches!) XO
@MsZombiecom .. I dont know why it would "HURT" u 2 see someone Do Nails or Hair at home.. I color My Own Hair. My Professional Hair Dresser TOld me What to get at the Beauty SUpply Store and I have been Doing it at home Now for 2 years.. looks WOnderful.. I think the only Way it would "hurt" a professional is in their wallet! Thumbs Down ON YOur Comment!
Informative video Lana, Thank You! And as long as you take the right steps, you can learn to do it a home. I taught myself how to cut and color my own hair...and yes, it looks just as good if not better then any haircut I ever got from a "pro". I think pro's do a fine job, but they weren't born "pros", they educated themselves and learned how to do it. DIY is not for everyone, but for some who take the time to learn, it is :P
Wow, bad boo boo! I had been looking at this system for quite some time going back and forth whether I should invest in this or try my hand at doing my own aryclics. I had been spoiled too many years with perfect manicures and now my polish chips within an hour or two. You made this look easy....the only part I worry about is that my nailbeds are very tiny and worry over getting polish on my skin....what happens if you do? xo
@MsZombiecom Uhmmm, I do color my own hair and now do my own nails. It ALL grows back. Nails. Hair. I don't have the TIME to sit in a salon for 3 hours for a shellac when I can do it at home at my leisure.
I am NOT a professional anything. If anyone wants a REAL well done video. Go watch Michelle Phan's. I am just happy with MINE. It's a simple matter of wanting an "At home" kit. I bought this, tried it. It worked for me so I am sharing. This was my second time applying. I will learn!
@lanaindiana Lana you are a smart intelligent talented woman. I'm pretty sure you can figure out (obviously) how to do your own gel manicure.Or pretty much anything else you want. Some "professionals" don't want anyone to know that this kind of stuff CAN be done at home. Maybe they are afraid they will lose money. I did hair AND nails for years & I assure you that anything can be done at home. Cont. Sorry long comment.
@Ultimatecruegirl Part 2. Is there more of a chance that damage CAN be done to your hair or nails. Sure. But as long as you educate yourself (& I'm certain you are) of what can happen & how to avoid it you are fine. I've seen plenty of ppl go into salons and get damage done to their hair or fungus on their nails from ppl who don't know what they are doing. To compare beauty treatments to surgery is just pompous.
Sorry about the stitches. That looks sore and a nasty gash. A friend of mine had stitches to the eye line. She was told when the skin was healing to stretch the area gently teasing it in all directions, to avoid scarring. It has worked well for her. Wait until stitches and scab have gone and use a bit of oil. Thanks again or the video. I love your news. The picture quality is really good on my screen. I do find some videos don't play smoothly and keeping pausing but I never have a problem iris
Hi thank you for sharing your nails with us. I am worried for you as you didn't mention protecting your skin from the UV damage.. Also worried you are going to ruin the skin on your fingers when you soak for 7 mins in the remover. May I suggest you break off small pieces of cotton wool pads to the size of your nails, soak pads in remover then place on the nails not skin, then wrap pieces of kitchen foil around each finger to hold in place. Leave for the 7 mins. That way you won't damage your b
@Angelmagik2 I applied sunscreen and mentioned it but... I had so much info to cover and rushed thru filming and editing. This was a HARD video to do for some reason.
ALPPLY a 30+ sunscreen before the process begins and do NOT cut your hand and get 7 stitches either!
@Dreaminstar64 I like this camera for one thing. Another is my really good expensive one takes like HOURS to upload into YT. The bright overheard lights bouncing off the white marble of my vanity makes it worse. It's way more clear when I film in my kitchen etc but who wants to apply makeup etc in the kitchen? Sorry about the quality. I am not a guru, just someone with a camera having fun. I apologize
I hope you use A hand cream with a SPF in it....I use the hand cream from Avon before I get my UV nail gel refill...don't want my hands to get older looking older than what they are..lol
@JAdoreSephora I did! I filmed this video so many times. There was soooo much to cover and very little time to get all the info in. Right smack in the middle of it, I had to zip off to a BD party. Not everyday does my granddaughter turn 2!
I rushed this b/c I had about 300 requests to get to it and FAST so I tried. FAIL
@lanaindiana You did fine! Much better than I would do for sure! But some of the people did have some good suggestions....so that is nice. Your vids are super duper!
You're an amazing woman. I love your real personality and your honest videos. I have a nail obsession so I might invest in this system. Rock on Lana!!
Ouch, you poor darling with 7 stitches on your hand! I adore the colour you are wearing on your nails Lana. I want to try the Shellac system as I love how the colour lasts much longer. I usually do French manicure myself and get so frustrated when it chips 3 or 4 days later, grrrrrr. Wonderful demo sweetie, thanks so much for showing us this nail system. Lots of love. :) xxxooo
I have the mini gelish kit I love it! I want to get that pin and red you have and bigger uv light ! Great video. I have saved 50.00 by buying this kit!
Looks awesome, love your vids Lana and love you!...just a thought though...not to be alarmist and I haven't even checked into this but heard the other day that these UV lights are causing skin cancer on fingers???...anybody else heard this?...just concerned
I was so excited when this hit salons Lana, but then right around the same time, I discovered Deborah Lippmann and I think her nail polish system stays on better than any, high or low end, polishes. I use her Hard Rock base/top coat and her nail polish colors. And they stay on for 2-3 weeks! This looks sooooo interesting and even though I'm in love with DL polishes, I'm just so curious and just might try this too! Thanks, great vid!
@kimsan16 It's one of her most recent videos. Lana's actually has more technical instruction in it. Love Michelle's videos but her take on this didn't have much real info. I suspect she was paid to promote the product more than giving a tutorial.
This is great. I love the shellac. I am hard on my nails and always using cleansers at the rescue. It lasts like you said, you are tired of it before you really need to change. My girlfriend has the same light. She does her toes too. Great video. Thanks so much for sharing.
@jmg194 That's the one I think she has - its the one I bought and love it - both hands and feet so it saves time - Good luck, isn't Lana great to turn us all on to these things, I love the COCOA CND - have it on right now!
soo many people do their own hair and turns out amazing <.< unless you're playing with strong bleach for hours without any knowledge, it's safe to dye/style hair! the "people don't do their own hair" comment is ridiculous
You are so on top of the new trends. The salon by our house charges a small fortune, and who has hours to spend there anyway? I went to Sally's looking for the shellac system, and the girl told me to go to Amazon.com. I just love that about you! Thanks so much for doing the video!! You are just awesome!! :) love you! xx
@MsZombiecom Right but I'm talking about the hair and the comment you made. Because I think I remember Lana saying she only gets her hair down professionally, so I wasn't sure if it was a comment to her to emphasize your point in that capacity, or if it was meant as a message to the rest of us.
@133anne Oh she does? I couldn't remember if she was for or against it. I dye my hair myself all the time, and I know many others do as well, which made her comment even more ridiculous.
GELISH AND SHELLAC IS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING JUST SLIGHT DIFF FORMULA.... ALOT OF DIFF COMPANY MAKE THESE GELISH POLISHES....LIKE OPI..GELAC..ETC CAN U PLEAS TELL ME HOW MUCH AND WHERE U GOT YOUR LAMP FROM
Very pretty color and I have been intrested in this shellac nail stuff and my stepgrandaughter is going to school to be a nail tech so she is going to practice on me.With my RA as bad as its been I can't do them too well so this will be great.Hopefully she won't file the tips of my stubby little fingers off.LOL Hope your husband is feeling alright and I am praying the scan will be clear. xoCathy
Very pretty color! I might have to try that sounds like it's worth trying. I just did a review of a "Barbie Pink" color on my channel. It is by Revlon the Color Stay Nail Polish.

Thanks again.

thank you so much for taking the time to do this, much appreciated! very tempted to give it a go, not everyone has the time/money to go and get it done at a salon (I colour my own hair too!) will watch a couple other videos just to get it into my thick head! I think you did a great job with yours xx

Ultimatecruegirl 1 month ago
@Ultimatecruegirl Part 2. Is there more of a chance that damage CAN be done to your hair or nails. Sure. But as long as you educate yourself (& I'm certain you are) of what can happen & how to avoid it you are fine. I've seen plenty of ppl go into salons and get damage done to their hair or fungus on their nails from ppl who don't know what they are doing. To compare beauty treatments to surgery is just pompous.
Thanks you for showing us all how to do this!

Thanks for the comments xo

Lana i llllllove you videos and will continue to watch either way! but have you considered buying camera with better quality?
Dreaminstar64 1 month ago 2
@Dreaminstar64 I like this camera for one thing. Another is my really good expensive one takes like HOURS to upload into YT. The bright overheard lights bouncing off the white marble of my vanity makes it worse. It's way more clear when I film in my kitchen etc but who wants to apply makeup etc in the kitchen? Sorry about the quality. I am not a guru, just someone with a camera having fun. I apologize

FAIL

Ouch, you poor darling with 7 stitches on your hand! I adore the colour you are wearing on your nails Lana. I want to try the Shellac system as I love how the colour lasts much longer.

Lana, what is Michelle Phans shellac nail video called?
kimsan16 1 month ago
@kimsan16 It's one of her most recent videos. Lana's actually has more technical instruction in it. Love Michelle's videos but her take on this didn't have much real info. I suspect she was paid to promote the product more than giving a tutorial.

This is great. I love the shellac. I am hard on my nails and always using cleansers at the rescue. It lasts like you said, you are tired of it before you really need to change. My girlfriend has the same light. She does her toes too. Great video. Thanks so much for sharing.

You are so on top of the new trends. The salon by our house charges a small fortune, and who has hours to spend there anyway? I went to Sally's looking for the shellac system, and the girl told me to go to Amazon.com. I just love that about you! Thanks so much for doing the video!! You are just awesome!! :) love you! xx
lakegirl645 1 month ago
@MsZombiecom Right but I'm talking about the hair and the comment you made. Because I think I remember Lana saying she only gets her hair down professionally, so I wasn't sure if it was a comment to her to emphasize your point in that capacity, or if it was meant as a message to the rest of us.

@133anne Oh she does? I couldn't remember if she was for or against it. I dye my hair myself all the time, and I know many others do as well, which made her comment even more ridiculous.
