i thought he died at the age of 33, im only asking ecause im getting a tattoo of jeff doing a boneless and one of his graphics and i wanted to know the years...?
In those days Hawk was already the Mullen of his particular medium, but compared to Groholski, Phillips, Losi, Miller, even Gator, et al, he was kind of... aah.... elegant. Take that word as you will.
@rebusd what you are trying to say is= wimpy -girly robot- the rest of them ripped, i have been there with them, do remember losi in amsterdam, also little don hilsman? fkn great times
my first pro board in 1985 was a sims jp. learned on cheap kmart "ninja" board before that. first day out on it on the galveston seawall. 11 years old. vision street wear beret. those were the dayz. some dude asked me if i could do a handplant.
I remember sitting in Jeff's living room watching this video with Craig Johnson and laughing about how Jeff skated The DelMar Key hole pool like it was the Clown Ramp. Great times.
Jeff does flips Phillips was THE most influential of all the pros i skated with and around. the guy destroyed the ramp and his park alllll day. then after closing he'd rip the vert ramp barefoot,no pads-still doin over head frontside ollies that would clear 4 lanes of ply---dude had big ol brass ones. he was a killer guy all around and i was proud to call him friend, skating or not.
The f-side boneless at :26 is classic Phillips... HUGE! The other thing about Jeff is knowing that, if he pulls anything-to-fakie near the end of the run, he's setting up the Phillips 66. In this case, despite sketching the backside air-to-fakie, he still scratches out the 66. Gotta love another Phillips specialty... the f-side bone-in at :48. He was an awesome skater and an awesome friend.

I think Phillips epitomized real 80's vert.
