this is kinda a late responce but they do smell if you dont clan there cage out every two weeks and that can be really stress full but i recomend that you get a syrian hamster because they are perfect and friendly as a first hamster!! :) hope i answered the question!!

the hamster themselves dont smell, but the cage might if you dont clean it enough. mine doesnt smell at all. if you use a recyclable bedding like Carefresh (dont worry, its cheap) or Boxo it doesnt smell cause its adsorbent. also, if you give them fruit like apples u should take them out in a few hours if they dont eat them because they might start to smell but it goes away fast

you should leave him/her in his/her new home, like let him/her have some time to explore the new home for like 24 hours then if you like try to take her/him out =]

you should leave it in the cage for a while. Then after about a day or so. then give it food ( from your hand) hope it helpes!
