  • Are both knock sensors the same one or is each one different?

  • @gokussj911 Both Knock Sensors are the same part.

  • gotta do this in my new chevy truck, UGH!! Great position to put the sensors GM idiots!!

  • @keltingr Lol! Yeah... Gotta love them engineers. Lol!

  • did you did like a reset thing to it or just conect the battery back on

  • @joseelduke22 I have a scan tool that i used to clear the code but disconnecting the battery will serve the same purpose. Thanks for checking out the vid. :)

  • @scotts01Z71 oh ok thanks, am thinking to doit my self hopefully i can get to it with out problem thanks for the video

  • is the knock sensor where the car sounds like a tututututututut?. i have a 1999 Yukon and my car sounds like tutututututut. or could it be the crankshaft?

  • @1978alexn Does the noise happen when you first start it up and then goes away or does it do it all the time? LS1 engines are known for piston slap. I had an 01 Tahoe with the 5.3 and it had lifter noise and piston slap but went a away after a few minutes of running.

  • @scotts01Z71 its when i step on the gas that does it. not really when i turn it on the suv. it does sound like a piston slap.. is there any way to make the engine run smother so i don't have to hear that dreadful noise. its a v8 5.7.

  • @1978alexn Is the Check Engine light on? If so, what code is it giving.

  • @scotts01Z71 the guy who sold me the car didn't tell me that there was no check engine light bulb in.. go figure, but i went down to the junk yard and found about 20 of them with some other things that i need it for ten bux! i need to go and buy one of those error code testers tomorrow. I'll test it out and see what happens, cause it failed smog.

  • I have an 02 tahoe, still 5.3 v8 just have one knock sensor though...this is still located under the intake but I just wanted to let you know this was a very helpful video..Thanks man.

  • @burre11107 Thanks for checking out the vid. Glad I could help. :)

  • cool

  • @hp11208 Thanks for checking it out!

  • @TobeNuts4U That's a good Idea.

  • @TobeNuts4U Thanks for checking it out. :)

  • My rear bank was so corroded it came apart trying to remove it leaving the stud and casing stuck in the head. Had to replace the harness also. Had I of used a shop there is no telling what they would have charged.

  • @deepsouthboggers Awesome! Thanks for checking out the vid! :)

  • Thanks for the bid basically let me know what I was getting into.. The ocean decided to enjoy rolling up into my intake when we went for a bit of sanding over the weekend and got into both my knock sensors and the timing is so ridiculously bad if I don't keep the engine in between 1000 and 1500 it automatically dies and i can barely get it up to 3k+ rpm due to them. It comes in random spurts though like 5 minutes it'll be fine then the next I'm having problems so. Thanks for the vid man I'll be

  • F*Xk man I wish I knew how to do all that gotta replace mine on 03 Suburban .. same 5.3 .. I went to mechanic 300.00 with parts and labor..FML

  • @0136707 Yup.... That's why I fix my own vehicles. The only way to learn is dig into it and learn along the way. Lol! That's what I do.

  • what kind of liquid did u use to clean the dirty place? carb cleaner or wich one? thanks

  • @jhep1985 I used Carb Cleaner to clean the heads where the Intake sits.

  • hi bro. thanks for ur answer.........but how about if the cables o plugs are demage?

  • @jhep1985 The only way to see if the plugs or cables are bad is to start from the connections at the Knock Sensors and work your way along the wiring to find a short.

  • hi bro. do you know what is the voltage of the knock sensor in a gmc yukon 2001 .... how to knock wich one is bad ? how to test it with the multimeter?

  • @jhep1985 From the Info I have gathered the knock sensors put out AC voltage. The more the engine knocks the higher the voltage. A good rule of thumb... Replace them both If your getting a check engine light with a knock sensor code of any kind. They are both in the same area. This will save you the trouble of having to come back and do the job twice.

  • Were do I live so u can do mine too?? Lol mine Is getting on my nerves but it's to big of a job for me

  • @rene04destiny Naw, Its not to big of a job. Just follow each step in the video and take your time.

  • awesome video man, saved me from buying a manual.

  • @alexxx1787 Awesome! Glad I could help. This Is a little more detailed than a manual that for sure. Lol!

  • Great video! I have a 2003 Yukon that started throwing the knock sensor codes after I washed the engine. After researching it online....I discovered that washing these engines is a terrible thing to do because water gets into the valley where he knock sensors are and fouls the rear sensor. GM engineers engineered a great engine with the 5.3 L however their pencil should have been a little sharper when determining how to seal the valley between the heads. The foam gasket don't cut it!

  • @mrmeast I couldn't have said that better myself. All they would of had to do was put a bead of silicone on each plastic cover to seal the sensors. This problem would have been solved right at the factory. Anyone that has a brain knows that eventually plastic and rubber will warp after being exposed to extreme amounts of heat. Thanks for checking out the Video! :)

  • I'm working on an '02 Xterra with a bad knock sensor. Little different from what you installed, but I like the tip on cleaning the heads and replacing the gaskets.

  • @BrushWrks Thanks for the comment and checking out the video.

  • how did you take the knock sensors out from the intake? do you need some pliers or something to take them out? ( the connectors that are on the wires)

  • Thanks a lot for the lesson, I am a novice, I thought the dam thing was on the outside, side of the manifold,,duuuuuuuuh! I have a Chevy S-10 Blazer and this example says it all for both yours and mines.

  • do u know where the KS is on a 02 nissan quest

  • @hp11208 Its located under the Intake on the 02 Nissan Quest.

  • thnks man.. job is done.. light went out and only took me just under 2 hours..

  • @Fubared247 Awesome! Glad I could help!

  • @Fubared247 2hrs!?!?!?! Fuck man you wanna come help me do mine?? lol

  • Are those sensors Threaded or do they just push in.. I just bought the parts for my 03 yesterday and noticed they had threads?? Looks to me like yours just push in..I dont want to take my truck apart today if i have the wrong sensors So was just wondering if nybody has done this on a 03 and if the sensors were threaded???

  • @Fubared247 These sensors are threaded. They are all the same on any LS1 engine from 99-06 models. (4.8,5.3,6.0) Doesn't matter If its a Trans-Am or If Its an Avalanche, their all the same.

  • great video.

  • @kylegillean Thanks!

  • @scotts01Z71 I have an 02 silverado and I just got a code read for a knock sensor. I'm hoping its just a wiring short.

  • @kylegillean That would be to easy. Lol! If It Is a sensor, replace both as you dont want to have to go back and do the same job twice.

  • @tt2ent- I have the same code coming up as well as the other sensor. Truck runs by and only has a little tick whenmotor is not fully warmed up and only when accelerate. Did the new sensor work? How much was it& was it hard to replace? Thanks.

  • @JrPilk I have this same ticking sound when my engine is first started for about 15 seconds. Im hoping that replacing these sensors will fix it

  • @kylegillean It should solve the problem.

  • awesome :)

  • @bjohnsoner Thanks!

  • !QUESTION! when the sensor is bad, will the ECM retard the timing like it would with a "real" ping or knock? Or merely throw only a code ?

    I have an 04 6.0l giving me PO332 code

  • @tt2ent Good question. In my experience(which Is limited) It only throws a code. When the sensor went bad It would knock upon acceleration sometimes. Once I replaced the sensor and the code there is no more knock.

  • hey, good vid! i am about to do the same thing and I am wondering if it was difficult to put the new gaskets on? also, did debris fall into the intake ports? Thanks

  • @smc13s Thank you for the comment. The gaskets are easy to Install. They clip to the Manifold.

  • @smc13s Thank you for the comment. The gaskets are easy to Install. They clip to the Manifold.

  • what engine is that? is it a 5.3 cuz on my 6.0 i need to do it and is it pretty much the same?

  • @91Brandyn Yes this is the 5.3. The sensors are In the same place.

  • i got to change the knocks to ... so thanks for the vid.

and i notice that u have 102,000 km on your truck thats pretty good

    i got a 2001 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 4.8L sle

    ans it has 98.000 km.

were you thinking on lifting ur truck.

  • @Jacksonguitarlord Your welcome. This truck now has 107,000 miles on it. No plans of lifting her, If I cannot get through something at the height It Is now I dont need to be going there. lol...

  • i replaced mine and the low input code came on again 50 miles later. what the fuck

  • i replaced mine and the low input code came on again 50 miles later. what the fuck

  • @PhilAnselmo4pres This could be caused by 1 of 3 issues.

    1. Water got Into the sensor area and corroded the connection.

    2. The sensor wire is disconnected from the sensor.

    3. The sensor Itself Is bad.

Did you silicone around the sensor cover?

Did the clip break that holds the sensor wire on?

  • @scotts01Z71 i guess ill have to pull it all back apart and check everything. but yea i did silcone them pretty well. it may be because i got the duralast sensors ill try acdelco this time around. thanks

  • @PhilAnselmo4pres cause you're a parts changer and not a mechanic

  • @PhilAnselmo4pres Im guessing an outside CONNECTION to the harness (if there is one)...

  • just replaced the sensor on my truck, took 4 hours but its done! thanks a ton :)

  • @sandking0077 Your welcome! Glad I could help. :)

  • great video man! got a question for u did your truck ever have a ticking nose when it sits? my truck does it souds like a it is coming from the maniflod on the drive side it stops after the truck has wormed up.

  • @jcena1986 Not yet on this truck. I had an 01 Tahoe with the 5.3 and it ticked loud. These LS1 engines are notorious for piston slap and lifter noise. I would start that Tahoe up and it would rattle for about 30 seconds and once oil pressure built up enough It would go away.

  • great job!

  • @jfgb1979 Thank's!

  • Excellent job on the narration of that vid!! Put a lotta effort into mechanicing AND videoing at the same time. I hate tryin to do that!! LOL

I know what ya mean about bein careful taking those off....I cracked mine when I was removing them last time on the TA. Sensitive indeed.

  • @rekjavicxxx Thanks! Ya i heard the faint sound of plastic cracking and I let up just in time. LOL!
