  • 9 people can not grow a mustache.

  • I want to have a sing- a -long with Zach !!

  • pornstache

  • awesome!

  • woow! how did you get to be there? It must have been amazing!

  • 0:24 Guy in the background really enjoyed that break

  • cool

  • la raja !

  • its still a ukulele. but its called a Fluke. its shaped differently, made of some different materials, and is quite a bit louder to play in a crowd

  • I am sure this is a stupid question, but what instrument is he playing here?

  • I agree with him being a genius!

  • I love this song, and I love this video...I just wish he'd stop using a pick.

  • genio... es un genio

  • it took me ages to realise that was in a different language..

  • it's portuguese :) love himmmmm

  • miss you have a beautifull voice

  • Who the hell are those lucky bastards that get to sit there with him?

  • Is he using a pick?

  • @Bukowskal most likely, yes.

  • What language is he singing in? And he's playing in the same key as Elephant gun.

  • @RandomTV47 I noticed that too!

    it sounded like... italian

    or german.

    most likely italian

  • @Keira13 Yes that is Italian

  • it´s lovely when everyone is singing the chorus!

  • @ spunkygal35 ur voice goes perfectly with zachs

  • @the6anti6christ6

    so true

  • Nice !

  • How does he make the hammering on the F and A chords sound so loud? I've got a Concert-sized uke and I can't make the hammering sound loud enough.

  • @stifledbabsie press harder LOL.

  • @stifledbabsie

It's not that hard it's mostly on how you grip the Uke It gives the middle finger hammer action, it might be harder if your hands are petite. Try finding a good angle. Woah 4 months ago nevermind.

  • @MyNameIsBeto Thank you. I do have small hands (and I'm only 4 ft. 6 in. tall).

It's strange because I can hear it when I'm hammering the note, but when I played it in front of someone else they, couldn't hear it. I guess I'll just mess around with the grip, as you've suggested.

  • @stifledbabsie To me it looks like he's using a pick

  • @stifledbabsie Practice

  • I disagree with the previous statements.

I think everyone singing together instills a warm sense of comradery

  • "he looks like pablo escobar" LOL, HOW STUPID HAHA.

    he'll be my husband :(

  • The man in the back looks like "the happiest accordion player ever" or I'm mistaken.

  • I Love 1:23 actually i like this version a bit more just cause that girls voice

  • moustache

  • @sunsetblow lmfaoo

  • @lgnmag ahahahaha

    she does lol

  • he looks like pablo escobar

  • This is so odd it is awsome!

  • So badass.

  • i LOVE bierut!!!! and zach!!! amazing proformance!!!!

  • Guys, lets ask to Zach what he said, because he's probably the only one who knows!

I speak portuguese, english and spanish, but there are some words on the very beginning that I can't uderstand at all...

    "Nos tempos que nós tivemos

    blablablabla

Não é tão ruim, nós pusemos os pés blablablabla"

    Great, anyway!

Vou no show deles amanhã aqui no Rio de Janeiro!!!

  • That's 'cause it's Italian, homes

  • he is so amazing, he makes that mustache amazing.

  • ele cantou em Italiano seus energumenos..

  • Brasil :)

  • This song made me buy an ukulele today. Three days ago i didn't even know what it was, yet today i was playing this song on the streets while carrying my ukulele home :D

  • I adore Zach Condon <3

  • Moustache! :D

  • Ele cantando em português é muito engraçado, adorei.

  • shauhsuahsuahsu!!

    é português concerteza!muito muito engraçado!

    Muito perfeito!

  • que venham e que seja a paredes de coura LOL

  • Goosebumps all over, what a voice.

    Cracking mustache too.

  • um portugues muuuuito estranho, mas engraçado!!

  • so goooood!

  • ohhh..que genial...con el ukelele!

  • And my english is worse than his portuguese, i'm sorry :)

  • I speak brazilian portuguese, and it's not hard for me to understand the european. But if I haven't read the nyappynoodle commentary, i would never believe that what he sings is portuguese. It's so funny.

Zach tried to sing a brazilian song too, "leaozinho", and I just understand a few words because I know the original.

Anyway, he's amazing singing in any language.

  • hauhauaha its portuguese, pay attention de original lyric is: The times we had Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow Were not all bad We put our feet just where they had... the portuguese version: Os tempos que tivemos Os ventos blablabla com chuva e neve Não foi tão ruim Nós pusemos o pés -just where they had... i'm am brazilian and he is trying to sing the Portugal portuguese......trying.
  • Oh... Almost forgot. Zach rocks really hard. <3

  • He's singin in Portuguese. Not brazillian portuguese. Portuguese from Portugal. Anyway, he's accent is a bit odd. It's really difficult to understand what is he saying. But if you translate the original lyrics to portuguese you may reconize the words.

  • sorry but i think it's in brazilian portuguese. If nyappynoodle's version is accurate, then it's not as we don't use "ruim" as bad

  • hahahaha, I don´t know why are you guys wondering the languague?! He´s sing in english, the sound it not good but there´s no way that the pronunciation looks like portuguese or spanish.

    Beirut is the bestttttt

    Regards, D

  • incase any of u were wondering hes is still playing tuned a half step up from elephant gun, thats why your ukulele may sound wrong

  • Might be some East-European language, since he has spend some time over there

  • LOL are you guys crazy? That's ENGLISH? It's true he starts in some weird lenguage, probably some western european lenguage, but by the third verse "We put our feet just where they had, had to go" on he sings in english.

  • not spanish at all, it is portuguese.

  • yes- that's portuguese but he has very strange accent! i'm portuguese and it was very difficult for me to understand what he was saying

great music, by the way :)

  • what language is that at the begining?

  • French I'm sure.

  • no thats not french cuz i speak pretty fluent french and i don't understand that

  • Hmm I wonder what it is then.

  • Italian?

  • portugese I think

  • yeah spordan you were right it is portugese

  • I hope they come out with another album soon, I loved The Flying Club Cub.

  • I love his music... And I like this "version" more than the CD's version, if it's possible :)

  • i wish i were there

elephant gun and postcards from italy are my favorites of his.

  • goodness,

it's hard not to get choked up watching this.

  • he's so drunk,

    haha!

  • is he??! i wish I could still maintain that rhythym when drunk

  • you can see the person filming on jannymuster video of the same thing hahahaha

  • A friend introduced me to Beirut and I'm now in a state of musical bliss.

  • he is so lovely, in every sense of the word. a wonderful gift to the world of music. :)

  • postcard from Italy.........beautiful.......

  • yes, happy from inside ; )

  • so lucky...

i would've killed to be there

  • ONly kill? That does not sound too jealous to me.

  • I would have killed a baby hippo, cut off my left testicle, give up one foot, and a pinky.

  • except for the ball, i agrre with you =)

  • what ukulele do u use to play this song? please tell me =(

  • fluke

  • At 1:20, when the girl sings along, it actually sounds pretty good together with Zach's voice.

    I love this video.

  • yeah...god this video is a like a treasure.

  • on jest BOSKI!!! kocham go!

  • I just watched this for the 8 millionth time...and I still got goosebumps...

  • this song makes me happy inside.

  • damn i love this song

  • damn i love this song

  • Yep, he's singing the first stanza in portuguese - and he does quite a good job, considering the fact that portuguese is a very hard language to speak.

Love this song. I wish i were there.

  • this video makes life worth living :-)

  • I'm pretty sure it's Portuguese (I'm Brazilian). However, it's very badly pronounced and he makes many mistakes. Here's my guess:

    os tempos nós "tevemos"

quando o vento soprará com a chuva e neve

    não é tão ruim

nós pusemos os pés where they had...

It's actually quite similar to the original lyrics, if you look it up.

  • I hear "o tempos que nós tivemos, quando o vento sopraram/ão com chuva e neve", but that is a common mistake and he didn't study Portuguese for a very long time, so I think he did it well.

I loved the funny (and slightly wrong) attempt at European Portuguese accent! <3

  • yeah you're right, I'm portuguese and I think my language is quite difficult to learn. He sure did good.

  • Perfect

  • aaaaah this is amazing

    i love his voice.

  • he has such fancy ukuleles

  • It's just a "Fluke"...

  • awesome!!!

  • much agreed w/ rubbrhose all around.

  • I love this! When the people sing along it just makes me smile. Beirut's music is beautiful.

  • wondefful sound from that ukelele. at first, it sounds like he is speaking in italien, is he? this song is very ver poetic. i love it.

  • good grief..... how can you explain that?

    speechless.

  • Jesus!

when everyone started singing for him at the end I got goosebumps.

    Awesome video.

  • fluke ukelele according to luigi :)

  • A mustache looks good on him.

I usually don't like mustaches on guys but it really works for him :).

  • you like mustaches on women instead?

  • ... xD ...

  • hahahahah that actually made me laugh out loud.

  • It's a Fluke Ukulele.

  • What musical instrument is the one wich Zach plays? An Ukelele??

  • Haha, ohkay.

  • Haha, where indie kids are a pain, what if they just like the clothes and happen to listen to this type of music? It doesn't automatically mean that they're a stereotypical indie kid. Lighten up.

  • So amazing.

  • I think is french.. I have just been at his concert and he spoke french to the audience..:)

ps. He MUCH more sexy in real life..

  • he's american d: i think from the midwest. he spent time in france, but if you've ever heard him talk, not sing, you're able to tell he doesn't have a european accent.

he does speak and sing in french fairly often, however. :)

  • He's from Santa Fe

  • I thought he was from New Mexico

  • he is

  • sante fe is in new mexico.

  • What is that instrument? Is it just an odd ukulele?

I have that exact ukulele -- fluke, concert (is that what they're using? or tenor?) except koa soundboard, not Australian (pine?) with GCEA tuning but mine doesn't sound as bright. Any ukers help me out? Is it the other tuning they're using?

  • i think it a mandolin ?

  • No, mandolins have a lot more strings. It looks like it's just an odd ukulele, but I'm not sure.

  • it's definitely a ukulele, just a strangely shaped body. the tuning is (as dudeleocious said) GCEA. such an amazing song!

  • Its a Fluke.

  • I speak Portuguese, spanish and italian and I'm also confused!! I can't really tell

as vezes que tivemos oh quando

Los tiempos en que tuviemos oh cuando

las Tempi abbiamo avuto oh quando

    haha

  • Ah! I can't stop watching this video or not stare at him and his beauty! He is so handsome and i adore the moustache!!!

  • I also don't think it's Portuguese, I couldn't understand a single word of it.

  • i think hes one of the few rare people who a moustache suits, wierdly, looks very 'last years of the english ruling in india' if you know what i mean, which you probably dont :)

  • Whee, he's so charmingly self-centered =3

Oh, and he's got gorgeous hair!

But that fake moustache is making me sick!!

  • you dumb asses it's obviously 3rd generation norwegian

  • Hi, I´m portuguese and Zach does not sing in portuguese.

Se acham mesmo que ele canta em português escrevam as letras.

  • I'm Brazilian. It's Portuguese(the lyrics in the beginning)

  • I'm Brazilizan. That's Portuguese lyrics in the beginning.

  • had more feling when everyone was singing i loved it. zachs the best

  • I have a Brazilian friend visiting and she confirmed it's Portuguese at the beginning.

  • I'm brazilian, and yes, it is portuguese, but with many mistakes in the use of verbs and with an accent from Portugal.

  • It's definitely not a Slavic language. It's one of the Romance languages, for sure, and if not Spanish nor Italian I'd have to go with ryhor and say it's Portuguese.

  • dang when people sang it just ruined it all

  • really? for you it did?

I have to agree with most other and say it gave it a very beautiful air.

    Make more campfire-y and intimate..

    Meh, just my humble opinion..

  • zach has such a unique delicate voice that is so amazingly beautiful

  • haha, well if nothing else, i spose that would make sense

  • does he sing the first few lines in german?

  • nah, not german. perhaps italian..

  • That was definitely not Italian. My guess is some form of Slavic.

  • It looks like portugese (brazilian version).

  • I have that exact ukulele -- fluke, concert (is that what they're using? or tenor?) except koa soundboard, not Australian (pine?) with GCEA tuning but mine doesn't sound as bright. Any ukers help me out? Is it the other tuning they're using?

  • lighten the fuck up, you pretentious douchenozzle. go get laid or something, seriously.

  • amazing.

  • Man I got chills watching this.

  • His concerts should just be the audience humming the horns section and stuff...that would be so sick
