Woaaah, I've just seen a concert here in Debrecen where Joe Burgstaller played the trumpet. Amaaazing :D I definitely became a trumpet fan :)) I didn't want to go home after the concert, I would have been able to listen to him forever (L)
@44jesusfreak4 I would first try the Canadian Brass website, and if that fails, try sheet music plus.com, and if that fails, go to a music store and and ask them to research it for you. It's out there somewhere I'm sure.
@djfeas001 i agree completely, and im trombonist. i always thought that the most epic thing to hear is a good, beastly horn rip...dang i wish i could play horn...
@TheMrSpanks i think you might be right, it does look like a plastic mouthpiece... hevan alone knows why he'd use it though, allergies to metal, just simply likes plastic mouthpieces. Who knows??
that has to be a tuba, I read this with two trombones a horn and two trumpets... It was nearly physically impossibly to play that low stuff on a Trombone
i forget where we got it but i played this with a quintet when i was in school it may not sound like it but it is a challenging piece i played the tuba
Michael Kamen's "Quintet" (This is what you look up on the Canadian Brass website). You can purchase it for single quintet or double quintet. It was commissioned by the Canadian Brass with Michael Kamen just before he passed away. Amazing composer!
i love hearing the theme pass on from instrument into the diff. colors. keeping the beautiful sound the same throughout the song is pretty challenging. check out my site at allabouttrumpet (dot) yolasite (dot) com
our brass quintet played this exact piece as well, and none of us expected it to be that difficult. But wow, just the internal subdivision and tempo alone are so difficult. Very pretty tune. Horn players are born to scream up like that at 3:11. That's how they should make you pick instruments, just highlight typical passages that you'll end up playing. I'm stuck with the trumpet.
i think brass instruments are the perfect instruments. they are easy to tune, they sound beautiful, and they can be played in all different ranges. i hate the sound of a nasty woodwind. uugghh the sound of a clarinet.....gross
I play tuba in a high school band, and this tuba player, pardon me for not knowing his name, is amazing. He has total control over his instrument, when i play a note, any note im not sure just how good it will sound coming out, but he seems to know how to make the desired note and tone come out exactly how he wishes it.
To try and help you out with that concern of not knowing how your note will sound, try breathing from your stomach, I know that sounds weird, but if you breath in and expand your stomach, you can have better control over your air flow...and when you get that flow going, just try to keep it steady. For the best sound, try to use warm air, like when you breath in the window of a car to make it fog up, yeah, that kind of air...combine these two concepts and your playing will improve...good luck!
I bet you have more control over the tone of the note now than when you just started playing tuba, so it's all a matter of practice. It often sounds different when you listen to yourself while you are playing, so recording yourself and listening afterwards can help a lot too.
It is simply a matter of practice and dedication. He knows exactly what sound he wants to come out when he starts to play, and that is my bit of advice to you along with the other guys. Know how you want to sound and know what each pitch sounds like. That will help you produce a what you desire.
