"Despite the fact that he was formally trained on double bass and bass clarinet, had studied jazz at USC, and could play additional instruments such as the guitar and accordion, Daedelus chose to go the electronica route, often incorporating samples from the '30s and '40s into his IDM and left-field hip-hop." -AllMusic
@withextremeprejudice if you think this "push button bullshit" doesn't take talent lets see u program all the different sounds into it and memorize what each button does well enough to play in stage in front of a crowd
@WithExtremePrejudice I would sincerely enjoy to see you do what he does. You go purchase a monome, a mac, and get yourself all of the equipment he got, and than once you do, even attempt to do what Alfred does. You can't. That right there PROVES that he is better than you.
@JermLuffsYooh Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't need to purchase pointless equipment like this because I have no desire to produce music based on sampling the music of others, because it's not worth doing.
This is the problem with music nowadays -- it takes no talent or skill to produce with these new machines. What a joke. Yeah, I can stand there and just push a bunch of buttons, too. This is why new music is going down the toilet, and you idiots just keep eating it up like the sheep you are.
@WithExtremePrejudice You're a retard. It's not just pressing buttons. It is making an experimental version of something new. You do what Alfred has done, and than we will talk.
@JermLuffsYooh You're a fool. Some day, when you're older, you'll realize just how foolish you are for thinking that this is music or that it requires talent. True musicians don't use this push-button bullshit.
@FaulFerkel If you would actually sit and think about it before you speak. You'd realize the button doesn't just make a song on a click. It's like the drums you have to experiment with the different sounds of each individual instrument(buttons in this case) to make the perfect beat.
@HYSM90s I know all the phase of sampling music in such way, i've worked with sequencers from FastTracker, eJay to Cubase and Logic. I know how he had to program all buttons at home, cutting and automating several pieces of this "song". But it's not a musician work, more like a Disc Jockey, who plays another's music. Most DJs are invisible at their turntables, only these epileptic performers are in the spotlight.
@FaulFerkel People like Daedelus are probably a bad example of what i'm, saying cause as you said they work off other peoples music, I'm referring to DJs like Deadmau5 who create their own music using a mixture of multiple electric sounds.
@FaulFerkel Damn straight. What happened to the days of songs where there were hundreds of chords? The more chords a song has, the more objectively better it is.
@WithExtremePrejudice yeah it b*********y well does take skill its not just pushing buttons its all linked in and preplanned the guy is a genius he's planned it all hes created all this awesome music and its programmed to go through the monome and he has to press the right buttons at the right time that would take the skill you need to play Rachmaninovs3rd piano concerto so dont dis it! I bet youve never played on a pair of decks let alone a monome so stop dissing great musicians
@WithExtremePrejudice- Why do you waste your time on this, I agree what you're saying about auto-tune and two chord guitar riffs but this guy actually has talent and although you can't seem to comprehend it, which is sad, try coming at it with an open mind and you might like it. If not get off the page. Lastly, do not call people "sheep" for listening to a song with 45k views, the sheep are the ones listening to the videos with 45mil views, everyone here is here because they enjoy the music.
Hey Poopcorn, You need to get get your shit straight. DJ might stand for "Disc Jockey," but when the phrase was derived there were no such thing as discs, only vinyl. Today world class "DJ's" use a variety of formats including the monome. Stop spending your time hating and go learn to spell.
@phonics80 while I agree that music can come in a variety of mediums, a DJ is called a disc jockey precisely because of the vinyl disc on the record player.

It is one of the better live-remixes of the song out there, unless you enjoy Kanye West or Rana Sobhany (yes, I went there). And about his arms, I love it. I love his small little dances and absurdly overplayed movements when using his controller (just watch Moldover or Ean Golden or even Edison to see how normal it seems to be). I'd love to see him live.
@onlyaremedy78 as a professional music writer i've seen thousands of people perform, and Daedelus is by far one of THE most amazing musicans and moreso live performers out there today, or ever. HANDS DOWN, were talking like high up in my top 5
Wow, finally an insturment that involves little to no skill or talent... you can give this comment a poor comment rating but deep down inside you know i am right considering half the time he is just standing there
@kskerny87 Wonderfully ignorant. As soon as you learn Max/MSP programming, get one of those controllers, and learn how to trigger things exactly on cue, come back & make another comment about the instrument's "lack of talent;" until then, you'll just sound like a fucking tool.
the amount of time it takes to set up the thing is astonishing, it comes with no instructions at all, you're basically on your own completely and the amount of time people put into developing for it is mindblowing.
have you actually listened to daedelus' music? the depth and layering of each song is fucking incredible, and he plays the goddamn accordion as well as a plethora of other instruments.
@kskerny87 do yourself a favor and actually think before you speak or share thoughts, cuz it kinda makes you seem like a retard when you don't, just a little. Maybe you should also do some research about what a monome does...
I have to say, if I didn't already know and love Daedelus before watching this video, and this was the first thing I'd seen/heard of his, I would think he was lame. For those of you hating on him, I advise you don't judge him solely on this video and watch one of his other live performances like the halloween dublab video.
