  • The music is so inappropriate, but you knew that anyway.

Cant even begin to imagine how it was then and now with the flooding in your fine city. I have some relatives who live here, thankfully they are all ok. worrying times for you guys, hope everything all returns to normal soon.

  • We were stuck in our homes in Moggill for 3 days without power and very few supplies because Bellbowrie was flooded. Coles, Pizza Hut, Liqour land... all were under water :( Great images of floods in 74. I love the 2nd track

  • 1ST bit music-"COME TO BRISBANE- THE MAGICAL FLOODED WONDERLAND CAPITAL OF THE NORTH"

2nd bit music- " BRISBANE, I LOVE YOU AND I'M SORRY YOU HAD TO FLOOD"

    Don't apologise, it's perfect

  • The music is classic. Really fits the chaotic destruction going on. I love elevator music.

  • great footage. most inappropriate music ever.

  • Yawza! Floods must be a really relaxing event for chilled out Brisbane folk

  • Wow it looks the same at here in Brisbane.

  • So if We let CALOUNDRA SOUTH development go ahead then isn't the Bligh Government going to simply put 50,000 more people at risk of MORE FLOODPLAIN Development and thus SERIOUS RISK of Loss and Flooding in the future?

Why doesn't a smar reporter pick up on that side of the unfolding disasters around SEQ?

that would be another 50,00 people displaced ?

isn't that worth a comment or more importantly a TOTAL RETHINK?

  • I love the elevator music. I am glad your weren't able to remove it, it adds to that tasteless 70's feel. LOL

    Good vid.

  • Sorry about the soundtrack, but in the nineties we took all the old films my dad had taken to get converted to VHS and thats the music they chose. I tried to re-edit it and change it after I posted it but it didnt work. Sorry

  • whats with the elevator music lol

  • At the very moment of posting, 5 minutes ago, the janurary 2011 floods have started, as the wivenhoe dam has started overflowwing.

  • Floods: Keeping fools wet since 1974

  • Jeez, there's not much in Brisbane back in 1974.

  • Great footage mate, wow how Brisbane has changed

  • Suddenly, you realise this actually could happen all over again!

  • @springlakestudios untill you realise thats why the built those dams. unless they burst

  • My thoughts are with those who have been and will be affected by the floods downstream from Toowoomba, a safe couple of days. (Monday 10/01/2011 9:30pm).

  • This is great vintage footage.

Parts of Brisbane looked like this yesterday after we were hammered by that massive storm.

The council needs to do a better job in keeping our waterways clear.

I was driving past Stones Corner during the deluge and there were heaps of submerged cars. Some were ready to float away.

I couldn't believe the amount of flooding after only 45 mins of solid rain.

  • As a 13yo my life was dramatically changed due to this flood. My Grandfather was pushing his car through flood water and suffered a major heart attack. In the midst of our grief our family still went to help those whose houses had been damaged by rising waters. The one good thing was that the new school year was delayed that year.

  • great fortage but i must say, although the music isnt bad, its not very fitting lol

  • great footage mate

  • samething as i thought

  • brisbane is way better now dayyum even though i was born in 1989

  • That traffic jam on the CC bridge looks like every-day traffic now. ;) It's weird seeing the river swollen like that. And it up the pylons of the Vic Bridge so far.

  • Considering only two lanes (and a shoulder) of the Captain Cook Bridge were open (with southbound lanes acting as northbound lanes due to the Margaret St exit being underwater)... Also look at the area that became QPAC, Qld State Library, GOMA and South Bank. If a 74 repeat happens in our lifetime, there will be a lot more damage in South Brisbane, and there will be a need for a evacuation strategy for QUT and riverside offices and apartments to avoid chaos when the time comes.

  • Yeah, that's what I mean - took a flood to make the traffic as bad as it is now. :D

They didn't have Wivenhoe dam then, though.

There was a really good doco on the Brisbane river - YEARS ago... like in the 80's or early 90's called Brisbane River from Source to Sea - I'm sure they repeated it a few times. It'd be cool if somone had it and could post it to youtube. They also mentioned the floods in the 1890s.
