  • Should be using a primer of contrasting color.

  • thanks, this video helped a lot...time to go get the primer

  • pvc is great,nice

    no problem in decay matter.light weight,and durable,lasting.

by the way, visit glotoniok in you tube, safety gadget new discover, thats why they discover ''essorb''absorb''gadget.

because of pvc in electrical and pipe.

  • pvc is the way to go

  • the instructions on the glue container says to chamfer the pipe. Does one have to do that?

  • I've never in 30 years had a leak by just getting rid of the burrs.

  • I can't have made sense, I mean as well as removing burrs etc & using primer & cement etc it says to chamfer the end of the pipe as well - is this necessary or OTT or counterproductive? ie could create less of a seal by increasing gap between pipe and joint?

  • As I said before, I've never done it for 30 years. Never a leak. Passed hundreds of pressure tests required for permits. Surely that answers your question.

  • ok. thank you. Is life ok for you at present coz you seem a little angry in some of your responses. I am a young woman who is trying to sort something out on my own & thought I would ask what I thought was a reasonable question. I will possibly think twice about that in future.

  • Everything is fine with me. If anything, I'd say you're hypersensitive to answers. There is no anger, malice or any other emotion in my two answers to you. Just the facts.

  • @going7for7a7walk You remove the burrs to reduce the friction that reduces flow of your waste water

  • Thanks for your comment. First, this video is a quick tutorial on just the fittings, it's not titled: How to Weld PVC Pipe. Secondly, you better go back and watch it again. Pay attention at 1:26

  • Hi Tim, I'm having trouble. I am replacing my 2 inch Kitchen brass P-Trap with PVC. Only problem is The bottom of the sink strainer and the opening of the pipe that extends from the wall are to close almost vertically above and below each other. The PVC pipe is wider with more fittings needed than the old brass, so laying it out in a workable fashion is looking impossible. Is there ever a case when PVC traps cannot physically replace brass because of space or layout constraints?

  • Rarely. Why not replace with an identical metal P-trap that you know has the right shape and size to fit?

  • work in well ventilated place.... they contain strong chemical.... and they can make you crazy... LOL

thats a good tips i learn...

  • could you make a vid on green ekoplastik pvc?

I hope you have some tips to share because that thing keeps dripping on my fingers and I cant replace it with white pvc

  • If the brand of PVC primer used is dyed, it WILL permanently stain surfaces.:(

  • You got that right. The first time I saw PVC primer was 32 years ago. It was purple. The idiot plumber was working on a remodeling job with me in the basement. He was messy and worked without drop cloths. The new kitchen-sink drain line had to be installed over the top of the woman's new white washer and dryer. At the end of the day, they had permanent purple polka dots all over them. She was very unhappy as well she should have been.

  • Damn! Nothing I Like BetterIs To Smoke A Big Cigar And Glue Up Some PVC

  • Hi

I´m a PVC Dealer in Medellin, Colombia

I saw that you use Oatey

Can you recomend me another PVC Cement that our plumbers can use in water , cause Oatey is not very Profitable because its higher price

    Thanks

    Best Regards from Colombia

  • Sorry, I can't be of help. Just contact the pipe manufacturers.

  • HAHAHAHA THE HAPPY DANCE! anyways... thanks dude

  • Ask the Builder. Are you a Master Plumber? A simple question?

  • Yes I am. I have been one for about 22 years. Are you one? I ask, because I went to your channel and there are no videos and there is nothing there about who you are, and what you really know about. When people see that on YouTube, they tend to think that the person who is making the comment has something to hide.

  • I used your advice, I tried this many times before using your advice and it always leaked. But when I used your advice it worked thanks.

  • You are most welcome.

  • hot tub, installed a 6 hp in place of what I thought was a 5 hp but really a 3 hp. I like having all the spunk but is there a way to stop it from cavitating. thinking of going to a 4" feed line but does any company make a suction fitting with a 4" opening?

  • with a 6 hp pump where a 3 hp was is there a way to prevent it from cavitating?

  • Also, be sure that the glue and primer are fresh. A can of primer that has been left open for an extended ammount of time or glue that is thick should not be used. Some plumbing inspectors require Purple primer to verify that it was used.

  • Hey Tim you may want to say something about getting the primer on your hands I had just a few very small minor cuts/scrapes on my fingers and got some primer on them and it was one of the most painful things I have ever felt in my Life!..no kidding... I did the pain dance not the Happy dance!

  • quaheedus - Actually both the primer and the glue are nasty. I have always felt both could be absorbed through skin. That can't be healthy. Then the PVC glue, once dry on fingers, is very bothersome until it peels off.

  • Do you have any vids on vapor barriers/retarders such as Tyvek? I was going to build a house for my mother..the first(and only) house I built I used Tyvek but a professer at The University of Michigan in thier building dept says they are both good, but its hard for moisture to evaporate if it gets beind Tyvek so it will absorb into the osb until it does. He said felt paper will absorb the moisture away from the OSB into the felt paper until it evaporates.

  • Not yet. The best system is to install the Tyvek or similar material and then place an air space between it and the finish exterior material. This can be costly, but the air helps prevent any problems.

  • yeah ..they call it vent skinning here in the Houston,TX area but that may not be cost effective so I may just go with the Tyvek..thanks a lot Tim.. I really appreciate your advice.
