  • Having the original is still better.

It doesn't matter if you have an i7 Laptop MSI which has OSX hacked on it.

At the end of the day. It is still a Windows PC/Laptop.

However in Macbook Pros,It doesn't matter if you have an i7 processor and using Windows as your os.

At the end of the day,IT IS AN APPLE COMPUTER.

Trust me. Experience between Macbooks and Hackbooks are different.

    I have a Macbook(late 2008) aluminum with 10.7

And a Dell Inspiron 6000 running OSX Leopard 10.5(iAtkos)

  • easiest way is using a vacuum . shop vac ;)

  • They got sued by Apple and isn't in business anymore.

  • Really the whole thing is their own fault, if they hadn't deviated from their original hardware centric model they would have been able to linger in the elitest market, but I think that you are going to see support for their OS disappear in the next decade and they will focus their attention on the toy market (iphones, ipods, ipads, etc.). You can argue against this type of product all you want, but it's appearance was inevitable and unstoppable.

  • The real problem for Apple arises from people being able to run their software on better hardware then they are providing at half the cost. This situation could push their operating system right down into the jungle with the rest of its million or so siblings in the Linux jungle and that would devalue that whole division. Apple might actually have to work as hard as Microsoft to make a buck.

  • Special Forces is mistaken...Apple is actually a 'Software' company that uses pretty hardware to sell it's software, OS, Iwork, Ilife, Itunes, etc.. Apple used to be a hardware centric company, but no longer. They buy off the shelf components like all the other big boys. If Psystar is selling systems that are out of Apples control, then Apple can't guarantee the stability of its operating system any more...oh well....boo hoo.

  • Apple makes it's money from hardware. Not software or software licencing.

Allowing this rubbish onto the market will stop people buying Macs and then it will devalue the product. (Remember OS7 or OS8 clones?)

This does not add anything to the Apple brand or product- Its a disgrace. No longer do you have certified parts that run well with the OS. You have a mish-mash of cheap third party components making it as bugy as Windows.

Imagine an apple store filled with this shit!

  • ugly generic case, cheap hardware. what crap.

  • sounds like ossex

  • hhah this stupid company is now not operating and its sueded by apple for 4M dollars!!!! GO APPLE

  • lol wow the first upgradable mac

  • It is OS TEN not OS EX! eurgh, ignorance!! psystar are screwed now since apple won the court case :)

  • OS X is OS 10. The X is a Roman numeral for the number 10.

  • Yes i know this. But it is not pronounced as "EX" (writing phonetically of course) it's TEN. lol sorry, a bug bear of mine.

  • Ah, I get you. Apologies.

  • What a crap review. I was expecting AT LEAST to turn it ON.

It runs fast? It is noisy? It works?

  • Mac is a box who's guts are mostly PC parts. (weak ones at that)

  • ever opened a mac. Im a PC Builder But no MainBoard Looks so well build as that in Macbooks Imacs and MacPro's. Only probably the proffesional Server Boards from Intel

  • MyAppleSpace lives for the real thing ;)

  • please hackintosh user GET A JOB AND PAY FOR QUALITY.

  • @pipexx86 wth are you talking about? Its the same computer hardware, just without a Mac skin.

  • hackintosh "people" like to test and see what's possible, they're not everyday users but they'll still get a Mac if there's something incentive enough.

  • Fuckin sheet!!!!!

  • psystar has mac on it

  • PSYSTAR IS JUST A BUNCH OF WAN***s THAT ARE TOO DUMB TO MAKE THAIR OWN OS

  • yes. like sony, dell, hp, compaq, and many other hardware companies that are too "dumb" to make their own OS. in fact the only hardware company that has its own OS is apple

  • You mean Computer company, not hardware moron

  • no hardware. they build the computer, the physical parts aka, the HARDware. they they put microsoft SOFTware on them. know your shit you fucking idiot

  • Does APPLE make INTEL CHIPS? Does APPLE make the motherboards? NO You are a fucking idiot if you dont know what hardware is. Apple builds the computer.

  • maybe not the specific parts but they do put together the hardware that makes them a hardware company because they sell the hardware. apple is the only company that builds computers and makes their own operating system

  • IF YOU DO NOT MANUFACTURER HARDWARE YOU ARE NOT A HARDWARE COMPANY. YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT. The company was founded as "Apple Computer Corporation" . This is very simple because they make "COMPUTERS " not hardware. The put together hardware is a computer. Do you call General Motors a steel company or a Automoitive company. You are a complete moron and need to think twice before you tell someone to know there shit when you yourself are a fucking idiot.

  • i see what you're saying. i have finally been defeated in an internet argument. i never lose those. lol

  • hdmi or dvi at least, componoet video is so analong!

  • why buy a pystar if you can install OSX on your own on your home pc?! :)

  • Yes, many ppl think this way, until they read a tutorial on how to do it and their brain explode.

  • ugh... let me tell you... its a real fucking pain in the ass.

trying to get it working on my laptop that has hardware supported by the drivers

but im getting the still waiting for root device error.

  • OS ex? ahahhhahaha, i laughed so hard. The guy has no idea!!!

  • miserable computer...

  • oh my gosh,

    mac os TEN

  • it's pronounced os 10 :P

  • OS ten!

  • I say "OS X" too...as in...not "ten"...not sure why. I guess OSX roles off the tongue better than "OS 10"

  • does it come with a monitor?

  • no it doesnt

  • If they somehow manage to win the case (a local company against a multi billion dollar international? Yea, right.) then all hell will break loose. Dell would be the first to ditch Windows for OSX, followed by Sony. You heard it first from me!

  • ditto. I agree man.

  • If I was apple, I would just start selling the OSX for $400 and free with any mac. Apple is stupid.

  • apple is selling osx for around $180

    they always sell their software

    just like windows

  • Leopard is selling for $129 you idiot

  • no need for the insults!

  • @spiker27a actually 30. the one for 30 is the same thing. just different instructions on how to use

  • ouch ... not even a plastic bag over the main atx case.

    Pathetic

  • Peanuts? O_o

  • Its not "OS X" X is a roman numeral for 10, so you would pronounce is OS ten, not X!

  • no one gives a shit. you can call it both.

  • Agreed.

  • i get the sinking feeling that Psystar is going to get their ass handed to them in court...Apple's wallet is just too big to compete with legally.

  • Apple is using anti-competitive practices, monopolistic behavior, and copyright misuse, so psystar isn't breaking any law.

  • Apples end-user licensing agreement forbids Mac OS X from being installed on non-Apple hardware.

That means you still running an illegal OSX.

  • EULAs are very much, for the most part, unenforceable. Otherwise Apple could and would have taken them out long ago.

  • Actually in THIS case they are VERY enforceable as Apple uses a Trusted Platform Module, or TPM to tie its OS to its hardware. Bypassing that is a direct violation DMCA and not only involves civil penalties but possible CRIMINAL ones as well.

  • Apple does not use tpm on mac,

tpm was only on the intel dev box original bundled with 10.4.4 transition kits.

  • The EFI is the software version of the TPM so it IS there so Psystar is still in violation of the DMCA.

  • macs and PC's pretty much have the same hardware and hardware companys

  • nope do your research

  • actually, they do but some are custom made for apple computers

  • apple makes them on there own some parts come from others guys like the ram and hard drive but thats it

  • They make their mobos too.

  • apple dosnt make ANY hardware , its all printed out by foxconn , anythign else is assembled by foxconn or asus, componants r OEM sstandards from nvidia , intel , samsung , toshiba

  • i agree with girlsdrinkfeck, apple overcharges for the fancy foxconn cases.

  • Yeah pretty sad that a c|net editor says os ex... kind of annoying that people can't understand what the roman numeral for 10 is :-/

  • Notice that Psystar got their asses sued over these crap systems.

  • they aint yet actually...there still selling them if you go on their site.

  • apple sued them in july 2008 but i don't know what happened

  • they are attempting to countersue apple

  • lol that vs mac pro? give me the mac even if it costs more

  • Would you put a Jet engine in a Yugo? On the other hand maybe open it up and not give tech support unless its on an Apple. I understand that there are people that enjoy putting together computers, its alot like legos for big kids.

Apple would not be hit hard, because serious users still would rather have Apple hardware instead of Toys to play with?\.

    Patrick Mac & Windows user

  • Apple hardware? Apple doesn't manufacture their own hardware, get a clue. The hardware they use can be bought in most stores.

  • X is a Roman numrole for 10.

  • is this legal?

  • this company is getting sued by apple

  • where is this review?

  • os 10 not os ex

  • get off your high horse, people can pronounce it any way they want.

  • @superELRICBROS

x and ten are completely different, fucktard.

  • @codeythesilent If you say so, but I'm looking at the second paragraph of Wikipedia that tells me something else...

Wait... you just replied to a post I made two years ago... wow.

  • @superELRICBROS

It IS OS TEN not OS X. The previous Mac OS was Mac OS 9. X is the Roman numeral for 10. I don't care what Wikipedia says because anybody can put anything they want to in Wikipedia. It is still OS TEN.

  • @gamewizard k cool

  • where is the next part?

  • i thought he said os sex instead of os x ahah

  • I wondered what brand of motherboard Psystar uses. Now I know: it's a Gigabyte. Now I want to know what model. :)

  • The desktop looks sort of like an HP case.

  • OS X is said OS ten. its a roman numeral X.

  • lol....i hope they know that useing OS X on a non-apple product is illegal. macs are about the same price as pc's. if you cant afford a mac then save up for one.

  • About the same price...? On what planet?

And just to clarify, a mac is still a "personal computer"

  • a personal computer doesnt matter what operateing system you use and its true. and yes look up some videos because ive seen macs way better built and cost less then a all-in-one pc.

  • You are absolutely right, there are mac systems better built for less $ than alternative computers (especially the all in ones like Dell is trying to market). And apple's student discount is pretty good. However, you can still usually find better deals in the non apple world of PCs. But that's not even the most important thing... You can build a PC yourself (these days it's very easy). Apple won't let you do that... Otherwise anyone can have a kick butt system for a small chunk of change.

  • There is a REASON Apple doesn't support a FrankenMac running OS X--they have no idea what El Cheapo garbage hardware you used in the thing and they don't want to play the crap hardware game.

  • @Maximara

No, it's because they are a business and they want to make money. I wouldn't ask Apple to support a machine I built myself, I'd just throw the OS on it. U wouldn't see me trying to purchase apple care for the blasted thing, lol.

I own a G5 (PPC) and 2010 iMac. I have had PLENTY of hardware problems with my macs, just like any other PC. Apple doesn't use magical hardware. I wish they did...

I have had failed memory, video card, wireless card, and MBO issue with CMOS.

  • @awk9991010 I haven't had any hardware problems with any mac I have owned.

  • @Maximara

    Awesome

  • It's true that it's illegal I just hope you know it's a civil law that's would be broken not a criminal one, that goes for breaking any license agreement not just the mac EULA if you don't believe me go study the civil laws

  • Actually getting OS X to run on a Frankstein PC involves breaking DMCA which has CRIMINAL penalties as it is part of COPYRIGHT law. See "DMCA axes sites discussing Mac OS for PCs" in ZDNet News back in 2006: "The company used a Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, to tie Mac OS to the systems it distributed to developers after announcing its switch to Intel's chips last year, but hackers have found ways to circumvent that protection, which is illegal under the DMCA."

  • Maximara.

Interesting, thank you for the information, I will look into this further. I have a copy of the apple Eula which states that you cant run Mac OS on a non apple machine, So I was under the impression that it was Civil Law under the EULA.

  • On Nov 27, 2008 expressly stated that "Apple employs technological protection measures that effectively control access to Apple's copyrighted works,"

Keizer, Gregg (November 30, 2008). "Apple adds DMCA charge to lawsuit against Psystar: It accuses clone maker of breaking Mac OS copy-protection scheme". Computerworld. In short Apple is saying there is DMCA stuff in the OS that is designed to back up that EULA.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOL what a crappy unboxing compared to Unboxing an Apple LOOOOOL!!!

  • HAHA! omg man listen to yourself! "unboxing" Whats next? I'd be entertained to hear it.

I don't think much of their target market would care about an unboxing experience.

  • lol, it's a fake wanna be cnet

  • Search "Psystar" on Cnet (dot) com this same guy is giving a full review on this same computer.

  • I did a search of "Psystar" on Google and found evidence of a VERY questionable company.

  • They should have included a booklet like Apple's "Designed in Nebraska".

  • its OS X(X is captial because its ten, not ex!)

  • OS X (ten)

    10.5.2

    Essentially you're repeating 10.

  • Spystar is a scam ran by some mexicans in Florida who keep changing there address because they don't want Apple to sue them!

  • burn it!

    it is an abomination!

  • /sarcasm ?

  • he cant pronounce os x

how can he be a senior editor?

  • Oh god does it matter? xD

  • YES! LOL

  • LOLage :D

  • Perhaps he meant Editor having a senior moment. :-P Seriously, not to know that "System X" is read System 10 (as in ROMAN NUMBER X) makes him look like a clueless idiot.

  • wtf he pronounced it fine...everyones human...easy pal ;]

  • He said OS X (ex), I say it too! It's called OS Ten, X is Roman for 10

    X=10

    :)

  • He works for CNet and can't pronounce Mac OS X Correctly?? What jokes are they hiring at Cnet now?
