    My father died when I was 13 and I was not close to my mom at all. She said that if I talked about it any more she would kill herself and take my younger sister with her. My father knew I was different from day 1 and he protected me. What do you think he felt about it ?

  • I've noticed that many radical feminists have had the same prejudices against transexuals that religious fanatics have. Isn't that ironic? I've heard feminists claim that gender is socially constructed so they believe that male-to-female transexuals are men who are caught up in gender sereotypes and that everyone should be unisex. The religious nuts, of course, take the opposite tactic of claiming that gender is ordained by God and can't be questioned. Gender is an innate personal identity.

  • Exactly,one that you really cant control. The distinction between people who imitate feminine traits and those who have feminine traits. The gays who hate other gays because they are feminine. Many lesbians see it as "constructed" because many of them aren't the slightest bit feminine and quite often are totally masculine.

  • @darliegoddess I believe a lot of the most radical feminists are women who are naturally androgynous or even closet transexuals who are confusing their feminism with this ideology of cultural construction of gender. That way they don't have to confront their own gender identity issues. They can do this by pretending that everyone is basically unisex or that femininity is an expression of an oppressive female sex role. I suspect that there is some deep seated denial and resentment at work here.

  • I don't object to it, but I'm bothered by the concept of physical traits being deemed integral to personal identity. It limits humanity to the purely biological. The capacity to change the outward appearance of these traits may seem to represent a liberation from biology, but I think the NEED to do so that transgendered individuals attest to (and demonstrate by willingness to go through the difficulty and expense) brings it back to entrapment. I find the possible implications depressing.

  • I'm sorry but where you get the impression this was ever considered "liberation " from biology is beyond me. The statement assumes you know biology and I doubt you do. Nor was there ever anyone stating physical traits were most important. Facts are that there is no altering the mind no matter how many lies Christians make up so changing the body is the simplest resolution.

  • @darliegoddess You misunderstand me. I'm referring to the cultural importance of the male-female divide, which I would tend to consider transitive and largely directed by social trends. I would tend to be of the belief that our culture needs to reach a stage in which no assumptions are made about a person based on inherited sex organs. TS, on the other hand, seems to reaffirm cultural assumptions on the importance of gender division in individual identity. It disturbs my view of gender equality.

  • So you believe that equality is only possible in a genderless society. Have you read Julia Serano's " Whipping Girl " ? It's the inherent hate of the feminine and the scapegoating of femininity that drives the male dominated society to even make that distinction. Femininity exists , it is wonderful .

  • @darliegoddess I haven't, but if it regards a tendency of ruling classes to instinctively relate their own culture as the normative form then I've read similar arguments regarding both gender division and racial division. I doubt it applies directly to me in this case as I find traditionally masculine traits least savoury.

    Anyway, I should stress that, as stated before, I don't actually object to it. I just personally haven't fully assimilated the concept at this point.

  • We should wait till you have assimilated it. Equality has nothing to do with femininity whether you believe it's a construct or not. A persons identity is not up for debate.

  • LMFAO @ "we took the playbook with us". I understand what you were saying about how another's transition shouldn't matter to anyone, but I think you're missing out on the fact that some people just sincerely want to understand as much as they can, for their own knowledge.

    I personally like knowing just to expand my horizons & so I have good, honest responses when I hear someone say something that bashes either trans or genderqueer folks. It's hard to educate others if I myself remain ignorant.

  • Cheated ? It's fascinating you would call it that. Like there are rules to gender that you must follow. The only cheat in life is if we lie to ourselves. I did that so I know what it feels like and having a baby is not cheating. Her wife is an incredibly lucky he would do that for her.

  • I rate this as one of your best videos. Very true to fact and very thought provoking and basically sums it all up. But a lot of the issues that causes people to interfere and make rude remarks is due to the constant negativity that the media blasts out about us. The media is so ignorant of us and still treat us like we are mentally impaired. It is so sad.

  • You are most welcome! I agree, it is harder to hate someone you know. Likewise, it is harder to turn away a lovely woman you have come to adore for months after she tells you that she is a Trans. She expected that would end my interest, and while I was a bit shocked, I cared for her no less. She seemed a woman, in mind and body- I decided not to make an issue of it. 10 years ago that was- she's married to someone else now, and we are still good friends! :-)

  • I agree 100%. Being trans is a big, expensive, pain in the ass. I do pass just fine for a female. I consider myself

    pretty lucky on that premise. The thing I have a problem with is men who are nice until they find out about you. They want you so much and then they hate you because they feel gay or something. Idk the male playbook as much as some bc I transitioned at 25. So these men are still hard for me to understand.

  • you really shouldn't have to justify your being human. people encounter different paths in life, they interpret themselves differently. transgenderists are bold for shrugging off the sickness of a specific-sex-oriented social personality. they've chosen to reconcile their innate halves; a man has a female side in his shadow, and a woman has a man. most people repress these and only take one side for an identity. transgenderists have accepted both. they're only people, people.

  • Frankly, I see no problem with what people make themselves into, as long as they don't hurt other people. My all-time favorite musician and artist is a transgender who settled on a body that is half man and half woman before saying "This is it; this is what I want to be".

    I've never been hurt by a transsexual. I've never heard of somebody dying in a drive-by sex change. Nobody gets hurt by androgyny. I do believe it is the responsibility of a transsexual to be honest with their lovers, though.

    To answer your question, gender does matter. Gender is central to who we are as people, as individuals, and forms the basis for our self identity.

    As a transwoman myself, my gender identity, like yours, is central to who I am, as a woman. Without it, I wouldn't be who I am today.

    And I agree that it shouldn't matter to anyone else what we do with OUR bodies. My body is mine, no one else's.

  • Anyway, to continue. As I got older and fell out with Christianity, I began to see that "male" and "female" behavior was in many ways a cultural construct. Moving to New Orleans also opened my mind up a lot (as one might expect), as did my falling in love with a girl who liked to go to gay bars on Talent Night. It took a while to get over myself. I still have a tendency, when I don't catch myself, to think in terms of "boys" and "girls," but the soul is what counts. Goddess loves us all equally.

  • I grew up in the Deep South and I'm 49 years old. The confusion with me comes at least partly from being raised in that place at that time. Men were men and women were women, and nobody talked about the fact that some people wanted to change. The only transsexual I ever heard about was Christine Jorgenson, when I was a kid, and it was sort of like...the media treated her as though she were the white rhino at the zoo. It took a while to work out all of it in my head. I'll finish this in a sec.

If Gay men can like men. and Lesbians can like women, and Heterosexuals can prefer the 'opposite' sex and still look for love why can't a person who finds that the 'T' in the girl -AS WELL AS THE GIRL HERSELF AS A GIRLFRIEND- suits them to a 'T' be looking for love and a relationship among the group they're most attracted to as well?

  • Thanx for the insightful reply darliegoddess! But... I kind of think that can be a bad assumption to make. Some guys are attracted to other guys, some girls are only attracted to other girls. Some people are only straight hetero and will only seek out members of the 'opposite' sex as mates.that doesn't mean a person for whom the (T) suites them to a 'T' isn't also looking for a person they can love and have a relationship among the group of people they are attracted to! (smiles)

  • That was a wonderful video! It's great to see someone being outspoken about these kinds of issues. However I was wondering how you feel about those of us who are "Bi-Gendered" and are attracted to the duality of Trans-Women. Some T-girls seem to feel there is something wrong with so-called 'Tranny Chasers' or people who are attracted specifically to the unique combination of masculine and femine that the Transgendered woman represents. How do you feel about this and why?

  • Some want real relationships and often "tranny chasers " are more into just scoring with a Tgirl. That is kind of dehumanizing since it is the "T" and not the person. That can hurt because they don't want the "T" really . Life is a rainbow and whoever you are attracted to should only be one thing, able to decline or consent. Life is to short to be prejudice against anyone.

  • You go Girl!! Keep doing you! Your sex is what ur born with. Gender is learned behavior. As long as your happy thats all that matters. Society is just brainwashed by what they were structured to think. People need to think outside the box and understand that not everyone is the same! If people can be born with ambiguous genitalia then how is it so hard for people to understand that people dont identify with the sex organs they were born with.

  • this is how i defined gender. real women are born with ovaries and normally have the natural(surgeon assisted also)ability to give birth to a child. a man who becomes a woman is not born with ovaries and currently can not give birth to a child(who knows in the future they might be able to give birth (science assisted, not naturally)) .

    Most are but not all. You probably don't know this but many women are born without a vaginal canal , cervix ,womb or ovaries etc . In the case of intersexed born with the right genetics yet wrong genitalia. Look this up on the web:

  • Most of you take fractions of science and pretend you know what it means. To argue genetics when you have never even had a genetics test is silly. A limited definition don't you think ? So if you yourself were not born with a penis , would that make you a woman ? Would a woman born without a vagina be considered a man ?

  • You are saying that a body part that makes up a tiny tiny fraction of you body determines brain sex when scientifically it's a ridiculous assumption. Gender is determined by the brain and is neither fluid nor determined by bumps in your flesh.

    Now try this , close your eyes and without defining yourself by your clothes , body or your genitals describe your gender.

    if that is the case, hormones affect to who you think you are. a study that i read about a week ago(look online for it dont remember name though) says that when a person is still in the mother's womb can be affected greatly depending on hormone levels present(not word by word but similar to what i am trying to say)that can determine gender mentally.

  • Yes , there is a hormone bath that has to happen at a specific time to create a male brain. They are still trying to sort specifics still. Lol, then you should eat before you try it =) The real point to that was that without outside clues many ( especially the hungry ) cannot tell. I believe you can subvert a gender identity with indoctrination but not forever. Examples like the Ex Gay movements. There are often suicides because they are what they are and can't be changed.

    Well actually if you listen the question is put to the viewer why it should matter what gender another person is. We cannot really change what gender we are mentally . For most transsexuals they feel no transition at all because they stay exactly who they are. It is merely the body that changes to match the mind. Understand ? It's a bit hard if you haven't suffered it.

    Of all the things said on this video, that is the most important. The real problem is not that someone's gender has to change, it is the world that must adjust. It's hard when you haven't lived in that kind of pain to look at someone and feel a life of unhappiness.

  • Great video ! Women and men need to find happiness as any human being. The pursuit of happiness is a individual and human right. Who are we to tell what is right or what is wrong for someone ?
