this is great...wow, I never expected Russell Brand to be so...real, so...insightful. I guess that goes to show you how, because he's famous, he loses control over the shape of his own identity. I made up a false image of him without even having the slightest clue. I feel like an idiot now.
"Don't judge yourself until you've done a hundred gigs". That's true for anything. I'm so critical of everything I do, but sometimes I just need to give myself time.
Well he's manic depressive, so, because you usually see when he's manic and hyper and clever, it might shock you to know that sometimes he does get cripplingly depressed.
Also this part " ...but then you realise they are themselves, perfectly and beautifully in tune with what they are, so if you get in tune with what you are, you'll have it...ect." is a wonderful quote that I hope to keep in mind.
The fact that he is so himself is why he's so unique and amazing, imo.
interestingly complex, yet beautifully simple.I think people are so fascinated with him is because he's totally genuine, truly kind hearted, completely honest and mentally and physically free.Could you imagine if the world could be like that? Hard to,which is sad because i'm pretty sure that's how we're ALL supposed to be....Rock on Russell
Advice from Eddie Izzard - awesome. Eddie have had a very, very hard time coming up as a stand up comedian, so getting good advice from him is quite a thing. Russel, you're an icon, rock on.
still can't stand him but yes he has the mind of a genius, a real genius. people who now say they love him, but didn't before, thats because this interview has made him vulnerable.
everyone that gave me a thimbs down would have pissed themselves if a comedian said it on the 'holy box of lights in the corner' wankers!! i love fattys!
lol he says all this amazin stuff thats completely true about copyin things you love and tryin to be a different person and he uses loads of amazin language. then he just says if u do that you'll be shit
First of all lt me say that I have always loved Russel Brand since the first time I heard of him...secondly, I love this interview..because it doesnt seem like an ''actual interview'' it seems like they are having an actual conversation which is always great and ,this seems so real..whereas other interviews in general with anyone seem so rehearsed and third Ms. French is an EXCELLENT interviewer!
This is the kind of interview that I find hard to follow, not because it is in any way dull, boring, or confusing, but because it is so thought provoking. Something he says makes me think about something in my own life, and before I realise, the interview is 2 minutes further on and I need to rewind and watch the bit I missed.
This is why I love him. Like I love his stand up and all that. But after reading his book and now watching this interview, it really just makes it even clearer of how brilliant and amazing he is. He has overcome so many obstacles in life, but never let's it hold him back. He learns from it and moves forward. Amazing.
I love the first question, how it's issued boldy and with purpose, without the benefit of hindsight: 'Have you ever really misjudged some material?'. Manuel says yes!
I love the bit where he talks about how his first instict to someone falling is "are you alright" rather than laughing. I have many friends who'll laugh before they even think that you might be hurt.
There is a kind of man who, when you find out his past and inner person, will disgust and disappoint you. Russell Brand is the kind man who, when you find out his past and inner person, you can't stop wanting more.
@TomfooleryofMatts I'd rather that people either love me or hate me.. not be indifferent about me. I love Russ... knowing there are haters out there, each to his/her own hey? (just be mature enough to shut up and have some manners, dear haters)
hes right where u get into that state where evrything is funny u can turn anything into a joke but i think u have to be truly happy and in good spirits to make that happen i love it when life is like that tho.
hes really smart, talks like a university kid well versed in BS. i mean what he says makes sense and the way he justifies it is very scholarly. im glad i watched this interview, it was def enough to make me want to read his "litte booky wookie"
it's true when you get into a mind set as an audience and as a comedian where you laugh so much that anything you say after that would please everyone because everything is funny. you become relaxed and open
I love Russell and Bill for their deep insights. George Carlin not as much, but thanks for the mention as I have not heard of him before so have been 'youtubing' him.
Wouldn't it be brilliant if we could all talk to eachother like we were praying to God cos we believe that we are the essence of God's love and therfore others are too so we'd have complete trust in one another and all our insecurities and defences would just disappear and we'd feel completely free to express ourselves...that would be heaven on earth.
I completely agree with him at the end when he's on about how you'll never be great if you try to initate the ones you love rather than be yourself. I think that's so hard to do aswell, to allow yourself to believe that you are perfect so it's ok to just be you and not be forever feeling self conscious and trying to cover up what you believe to be faults. I think if we could all achieve that kind of fearless thinking, I think that would be perfection.
It is 2:23 am where I live, and Im sitting here listening to his voice and Im totally captivated. There is not a doubt in my mind telling me that he is not a brilliant man, because he most certainly is.
if what you say is true, you no longer act like a "wanker" (im american), will you lose your ability to convey unique, albeit grosteque, experiences? was it not your wankering that made us love you, because it showed you were vulnerable like the rest of us?
this is why i am scared for the lives of comedians. in order to remain on top, they need to continually seek out harm to be effective.
unless he is going the spiritual leader route. either way, im listening.
What an odd perspective, PalminderKaur! What does that mean?!
He IS what he is displaying. If you can display that kind of energy, on camera, answering questions that eloquently, you are that - that is what you are. Even if he were acting, which he clearly is not, then he is acting out an aspect of himself, which in turn means that he IS what he portrays.
If that cynicism is all you can get out of this beautifully delivered eulogy of love and positive energy, I feel a little sorry for you.
You appear to be suggesting that he can't possibly be acting because his performance is too good? I happen to think he's an excellent actor. What he said is lovely but any fool can see that he wishes he were that free of human frailty and failing rather than is. One isn't a completely zen/positive/spiritual being if they spend their life agressivley hunting attention and rutting anything that moves (including sticking their uninvited fingers up my friend's arse!).
LOL! Thank you for that PalminderKaur. It seems you have a unique perspective of the man. I don't think he portrays, or is trying to portray, being free of human frailty. The fact that he is an attention seeking 'shithead' (in his own words), a self-confessed sex addict and ex-junkie, with a very genuine desire to affirm the 'positive/spiritual' aspect of himself rather than the dark, wanky side of his personality is what makes him so endearing. We are none of us perfect.
yeah - how odd that i watch his interviews more readily than his standup. although his latest one in new york that i saw on here is quite good. 'scandalous'
absolutely brilliant, lovely and beautiful soul. I love that he can be so off the wall, energetic and funny- and then he has this very philosophical, life pondering side. love love love ya Russell!
this is great...wow, I never expected Russell Brand to be so...real, so...insightful. I guess that goes to show you how, because he's famous, he loses control over the shape of his own identity. I made up a false image of him without even having the slightest clue. I feel like an idiot now.
