  • this is great...wow, I never expected Russell Brand to be so...real, so...insightful. I guess that goes to show you how, because he's famous, he loses control over the shape of his own identity. I made up a false image of him without even having the slightest clue. I feel like an idiot now.

  • and maybe he wasnt on form, but he doesnt sound very intelligent and clear in his thoughts, although he is always interesting and funny

  • no its just boring...it might be very thought provoking...but ultimately it is dull

  • what an incredibly charismatic guy

  • "Don't judge yourself until you've done a hundred gigs". That's true for anything. I'm so critical of everything I do, but sometimes I just need to give myself time.

  • He is a true artist who speaks from experience not the experiment.

  • This is the first interview I see him serious and not goofy. I think it's cause of the interviewer... she asks great questions...

  • GREAT INTERVIEW

  • he nearly said 'I've been a right cunt' hahah

  • @parkwayfuckingdrive0 ......i think it was a "g" word..a short one

  • hes so authentic, sincere, intelligent and of course funny.

  • fucking awesome

  • the sad kid is looking though his eyes. He is so true in this... love it

  • TomfooleryofMatts??? Aww are you guys bessy mates again RUSSELL... felt bad when read booky wook 2 and you guys were becoming distant '')

  • I love Russell Brand, please come to Greece, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee...

  • Her hand gestures are saying what is in her mind!

  • "... they are themselves perfectly in tune with what they are!"

    Damn! he said it there!

  • I love how sincere he is.

Also this part " ...but then you realise they are themselves, perfectly and beautifully in tune with what they are, so if you get in tune with what you are, you'll have it...ect." is a wonderful quote that I hope to keep in mind.

The fact that he is so himself is why he's so unique and amazing, imo.

  • interestingly complex, yet beautifully simple.I think people are so fascinated with him is because he's totally genuine, truly kind hearted, completely honest and mentally and physically free.Could you imagine if the world could be like that? Hard to,which is sad because i'm pretty sure that's how we're ALL supposed to be....Rock on Russell

  • He's very wise at a young age.

  • it's really nice to see this side of him

  • I love how he elucidates where most people would explain it as mundanley as possible, I wish I had that kind of talent.

  • he's the kind of person who makes you want to listen to everything he says

  • ha, that impression of a bad telly presenter was exactly like jimmy carr

  • He seems really intelligent. I love him xx

  • Please re-upload this clip. It won't load or play.

  • Really great interview. Russell is one of the best comedians of all time and like some of the best hes a really beautiful person too.

  • this interviewer has a twitch in her neck me thinks oO

  • Advice from Eddie Izzard - awesome. Eddie have had a very, very hard time coming up as a stand up comedian, so getting good advice from him is quite a thing. Russel, you're an icon, rock on.

  • What a fantastic interview

  • This is a great interview. This guy is so interesting.

  • Great Interviewer.

    Great HONEST, Genuine subject.

    ((hug))

  • still can't stand him but yes he has the mind of a genius, a real genius. people who now say they love him, but didn't before, thats because this interview has made him vulnerable.

  • this is amazing. i always thought of him as awesome, but a but of an idiot, he is so intelligent and inspiring...what a legend.!

  • exactly! exactly.

    ...wow.

  • 7.00

  • NO PIE LEFT!!! hehe typical dawny thinkin o' food! i love the fattys!!

  • @MrWhizzpop haha just what i thorght

  • everyone that gave me a thimbs down would have pissed themselves if a comedian said it on the 'holy box of lights in the corner' wankers!! i love fattys!

  • lol he says all this amazin stuff thats completely true about copyin things you love and tryin to be a different person and he uses loads of amazin language. then he just says if u do that you'll be shit

  • This interview has completely blown me out of the water. Loved him before... love him 1000 times more now!!

  • First of all lt me say that I have always loved Russel Brand since the first time I heard of him...secondly, I love this interview..because it doesnt seem like an ''actual interview'' it seems like they are having an actual conversation which is always great and ,this seems so real..whereas other interviews in general with anyone seem so rehearsed and third Ms. French is an EXCELLENT interviewer!

  • He really is incredible.

Never the same cliche answers as every other interviewee, his answers always seem to be deep and honest.

  • This is the kind of interview that I find hard to follow, not because it is in any way dull, boring, or confusing, but because it is so thought provoking. Something he says makes me think about something in my own life, and before I realise, the interview is 2 minutes further on and I need to rewind and watch the bit I missed.

  • "But then you realize that what those people are is they are themselves, perfectly and beautifully in tune with what they are."

  • OMG listen from 7:17 --- thats ZEN knowledge

  • He's so passionate about comedy.

Brings tears to my eyes. His convictions are so strong, and he's so analytical.;.

  • This is why I love him. Like I love his stand up and all that. But after reading his book and now watching this interview, it really just makes it even clearer of how brilliant and amazing he is. He has overcome so many obstacles in life, but never let's it hold him back. He learns from it and moves forward. Amazing.

  • i love when he says no it took me ages dawn, he's so sweet...love everythin about him

  • top dude

  • great interview

  • That's a supermarket I would frequent everyday.

    (on friends computer)

  • I truly believe comedy was his calling. He's just too funny not to be a comedian. Can you imagine him working in a supermarket? :D

  • I love the first question, how it's issued boldy and with purpose, without the benefit of hindsight: 'Have you ever really misjudged some material?'. Manuel says yes!

  • he's certainly not a very good advertisement for the importance of a formal education, now is he?

  • he went to 2 of the top drama schools in the country, you dont get in to them if your a twat.

  • but he was off his head when auditioned for both of them lol!

  • I love the bit where he talks about how his first instict to someone falling is "are you alright" rather than laughing. I have many friends who'll laugh before they even think that you might be hurt.

Love his eyes, so deep and full of emotion.

  • omg "get intune with your self" kat williams said " you need to be intune with your star player"

both great comedians realized something of actual merit...not coincedental

  • There is a kind of man who, when you find out his past and inner person, will disgust and disappoint you. Russell Brand is the kind man who, when you find out his past and inner person, you can't stop wanting more.

  • He's so endearing! I really respect him as a person and as a comedian : )

  • I'm totally enthralled with Russell!

  • yeah he really divides some people, you either like him or you don't. He shows here why everyone should like him, he's a very good human being.

  • @TomfooleryofMatts I'd rather that people either love me or hate me.. not be indifferent about me. I love Russ... knowing there are haters out there, each to his/her own hey? (just be mature enough to shut up and have some manners, dear haters)

  • i could listen to him for ever hes such an interesting man

  • If u haven't already, watch his interview with Howard Stern. Very interesting stuff!

  • thanks for this!

    x

  • his eyes are so beautiful. you'd never know under all that hair and eyeliner.

  • Why is this guy not a teacher? He' so smart!

  • i think it may be his theories about revolution and antiestablishmentism hahaha i'd love to see his host a primary school class

  • hes right where u get into that state where evrything is funny u can turn anything into a joke but i think u have to be truly happy and in good spirits to make that happen i love it when life is like that tho.

  • He's so beautifully honest.

  • yeah...wish everyone was like that

  • hes not afraid to address his past, his problems, and doesn't lose his cool

  • hes really smart, talks like a university kid well versed in BS. i mean what he says makes sense and the way he justifies it is very scholarly. im glad i watched this interview, it was def enough to make me want to read his "litte booky wookie"

  • Does anyone else think he almost drops the "c bomb" at 1:56min but then changes it to "w#nker"?!

  • to me it seems that hes going to say git....

  • yes he does haha

  • he so does,

that's the don't-say-anything-stupid thing he has going

    hahaha

    he's a genius

    x

  • lol true!

  • He is fantastic, no doubt.

but has anyone else at some stage throughout this interview had to shack their had and try and keep up with his rambling?

  • it's true when you get into a mind set as an audience and as a comedian where you laugh so much that anything you say after that would please everyone because everything is funny. you become relaxed and open

  • Russell Brand is the Bill Hicks of our generation. Brilliant!

  • He's definately on the way to Hicksian greatness!

    Like George Carlin ?

  • I love Russell and Bill for their deep insights. George Carlin not as much, but thanks for the mention as I have not heard of him before so have been 'youtubing' him.

  • Actually, I spoke too soon. I've now been watching a LOT of George Carlin, since my last reply and he is brilliant!

  • Wow, I like this guy even more now.

  • this man is brilliant. there is not one man more genuine and honest and witty than him.

  • he is so intelligent, and whenever he speaks, he just captivates me

  • Wouldn't it be brilliant if we could all talk to eachother like we were praying to God cos we believe that we are the essence of God's love and therfore others are too so we'd have complete trust in one another and all our insecurities and defences would just disappear and we'd feel completely free to express ourselves...that would be heaven on earth.

  • I completely agree with him at the end when he's on about how you'll never be great if you try to initate the ones you love rather than be yourself. I think that's so hard to do aswell, to allow yourself to believe that you are perfect so it's ok to just be you and not be forever feeling self conscious and trying to cover up what you believe to be faults. I think if we could all achieve that kind of fearless thinking, I think that would be perfection.

  • that's it in a nutshell.

  • Dawn is a very good interviewer.

  • "The bus was always coming."

  • I love you for that comment !

  • It's nice to see him in a more intimate light, the man behind the madness :)

  • i completely agree. that's exactly what it's like.

and what a man he is. :)

  • I'm totally with you guys. It's nice to actually see his spiritual part, rather then "going mental" :)

  • I like him...but I dont like Ponderland, he's seems less in his element on that show.

  • It is 2:23 am where I live, and Im sitting here listening to his voice and Im totally captivated. There is not a doubt in my mind telling me that he is not a brilliant man, because he most certainly is.

  • one thing i worry about russ,

if what you say is true, you no longer act like a "wanker" (im american), will you lose your ability to convey unique, albeit grosteque, experiences? was it not your wankering that made us love you, because it showed you were vulnerable like the rest of us?

this is why i am scared for the lives of comedians. in order to remain on top, they need to continually seek out harm to be effective.

unless he is going the spiritual leader route. either way, im listening.

  • I love him with the hat - it really suits him.

Brilliant interview - beautiful man..he is very good at the voice at 6:31 - 6:36

The end is so amazing - be at one with yourself..

  • What an odd perspective, PalminderKaur! What does that mean?!

He IS what he is displaying. If you can display that kind of energy, on camera, answering questions that eloquently, you are that - that is what you are. Even if he were acting, which he clearly is not, then he is acting out an aspect of himself, which in turn means that he IS what he portrays.

If that cynicism is all you can get out of this beautifully delivered eulogy of love and positive energy, I feel a little sorry for you.

  • As if Russell were speaking himself, well said.

  • :)

    XXX

  • well said kwraikarn

russ makes me glad i'm essex

wish he'd sort his hair out though

  • You appear to be suggesting that he can't possibly be acting because his performance is too good? I happen to think he's an excellent actor. What he said is lovely but any fool can see that he wishes he were that free of human frailty and failing rather than is. One isn't a completely zen/positive/spiritual being if they spend their life agressivley hunting attention and rutting anything that moves (including sticking their uninvited fingers up my friend's arse!).

  • LOL! Thank you for that PalminderKaur. It seems you have a unique perspective of the man. I don't think he portrays, or is trying to portray, being free of human frailty. The fact that he is an attention seeking 'shithead' (in his own words), a self-confessed sex addict and ex-junkie, with a very genuine desire to affirm the 'positive/spiritual' aspect of himself rather than the dark, wanky side of his personality is what makes him so endearing. We are none of us perfect.

  • Russell's got something special. The way he sees things and thinks about things and the way he says things, so beautiful.

I like this Russell better than the stand up.

  • yeah - how odd that i watch his interviews more readily than his standup. although his latest one in new york that i saw on here is quite good. 'scandalous'

  • absolutely brilliant, lovely and beautiful soul. I love that he can be so off the wall, energetic and funny- and then he has this very philosophical, life pondering side. love love love ya Russell!

  • anetchi: most positives I've ever seen given to a comment...and well deserved too.

His mind is like a facile bunny rabbit on Einstein juice.

  • I love this bloke X

  • let's make it a mantra

    maybe it will then happen

i fully support love and respect

  • perfectly and beautifully in tune with what we are

    in tune with the universe-

supported by the energy around you

  • smart guy!!

  • that TV voice was perfect lol

  • He says thinks in the most sensitive and beautiful way, a great outlook on life :D

We always see him doing his vigurous comedy, (which is amazing can i say) its lovely to see another side of him, a sweet, sincere side (:

  • what a beautiful perspective... i feel that way everyday...

  • i love russell such a good interview

  • this is a wonderful interview. he really lets you inside his mind.

  • Advice from Eddie Izzard. Awesome.

His view that everything can be funny when you look at it from the right perspective is just amazing.

  • such a lovely and inspiring man

  • What a lovely interview - serious but yet he still makes me laugh :] xxx

  • he says the things in the most beautiful way!

  • aww x just ....russ

  • hat

    *fullstop*

  • I love this interview. I really do. :] He talks lovely

  • She's a wonderful interviewer.

She and Russell really work well together; they seem like they really understand eachother.

  • yeah - i think comedians tend by definition to be insightful and empathetic (or certainly have good perception) and so dawn is a good interviewer.
