@Marl82be Bllomberg Terminal ... I mean 80% of the time you can see "Bloomberg" printed on the backside of the screen... gosh ppl keep wondering how they get manipulated by product placements in TV....
" Trading is the most uniformally fascinating game in the world. But it is NOT for the stupid, mentally lazy, the incompetent and the get rich quick adventurer. These kinds of people will die poor."
@TM7MEHT this is kinda sad. With 14 u should be able to see that despite these People own a lot of money they fail as human beeings. They have no experience outside their little word. I swear to you that people who work honestly knowing that their job changes something are a lot more happier. Also they earn money with their money so they actually can't spend their money, because if they do, they have nothing left to trade with.
@redjebn he's a very intelligent guy - understood the business very quickly -his problem was that he was often trying to too clever and looking for that magical trade that would make him and the team 000's - he was also in conflict with himself about placing trades rather than just getting in there and placing a trade.
For entertainment value, this series was great fun, but in terms of an accurate portrayal of the world of trading, it was farcical. If you place a trade on a stock based on a particular news event, or what you anticipate may happen, as this lot were doing, then it is pure gambling. Where was the technical analysis to determine a trade opportunity, because if there was any, it was obviously deemed to dull to incorporate into the show. An enterprise to publicise Van Dam's book, nothing more.
trading stresses me out.., i prefer writing options and using statistics and probability and tecnical analysis to figure out where the markets is likely to be in the next 25 days before expiration.
I'm surprised that the most successful person didn't get much coverage. His originality and trading style is beneficial in this industry. Discounting him as the ultimate trader is wrong. Trading is about profit at the end of the day, the trading style is irrelevant. Being a trader myself for over 17 years I can understand the psychological turmoil they experinced. However, Lex's excuse in eliminating the "black guy" smells of racism. As a "Caucasian" myself it leaves me embarrassed.
Army guy = from clueless to sort of a Gordon Gekko. He lost money, but at least it looks like he's having fun.
Mom = if you trade you want to be like her: apply your strategy and trust your edge, then don't celebrate/cry over each win/loss, just relax and play probabilities. She's not a gambler, she's the casino.
@unomnacajit111 lol and you are a complete dreamer. You need to think with rational expectation and understand the value of money. When you start to understand this, then you will transformed from a "socialist" into a capitalist. There is no "right" or "wrong" in this world, there is law which desires the "right" or "wrong" of a nation. If lex is fake, then his money is also fake? He has money and he thinks logically, maybe you need to and think with logic and not emoitions.
I understand the need for the hype view. However to be more effecient wouldn't you want to use headphones for telephone conversations. I look at things like this as I view trading as an harmonious artform where you work to casue all the elements to flow. I'm on twitter with 10-20% DAILY returns...Benblackstone
It's a simple fact that people think making a lot of money is easy for people with really "good" jobs. People tend to forget how much work actually goes into the decision and after that you have to deal with staying cool and not second guessing yourself.
I don't like how the show focuses on short term profits/losses, most people invest for yrs.
I'm only a student and I bought my first stocks, I've followed all news for months and checked numbers on anything I found interesting before I did it.
@meledelion Yeah there are basically two "schools". There's "trading" which IS completely short term; a mix of fundamental an economic analysis, but mostly technical analysis. Traders believe that the market is not "efficient". Investors on the other hand, believe in a perfect market (mainly), and focus on company analysis and fundamentals only, and look at long term.
Actually they performed worst. They didnt perform better. For starters, they lost 12k quid. And they claim its 12k based on 500k invested. But they failed to state that they didnt start with 500k but only 200k. And its also a small experiment based on 6 weeks or something. If they based their performance on a year like other hedgefunds, these n00bs would have been SMOKED.
Thats why Lex hired none of these n00bs. The real proper way of calculating this is 200k/12k = 16% loss. Thats 192% annual.
It's hard to ignore the fact, that given all the emotional and physical effort they put in, Lex would have made more profit (zero) by doing absolutely nothing for two months.
also i can see none of you read the book Fooled by randomness by Nassim N. Taleb (the book that the black guy has on his desk - the camera shows it on some part)
@cirocar. I do had learned a lot. Trading is not just be able to buy and sell stocks. It is the ability to stay calm to be concentrated for the next move.
@wiheedotcom yh made my 1st trade today and lost £100 coz I changed my mind on a stock and decided to short it instead of leaving it long and a few minutes after that the stock shot up :/ hopefully tomorrow would be a better day for me, have learnt my lesson.
@Shaedo1989 Riiight, smartass... Would you care to elaborate what YOU learned about "trading psychology and emotional judgement" in these last three hours? Mind you that this is a show, not a tutorial to teach you how to trade, therefore it is biased and pumped up from the get-go. Now please, explain what you learned.
@castelinop Spelled your name wrong below. While you're here, I'll point out this was a two month experiment, edited down to 150 minutes. There was a LOT we didn't see on film, including the charts and tables, least of all. Doesn't mean it didn't happen.
@castelinopop Well, it is reality TV. They mentioned taking assessment tests before the show, and those obviously weren't to judge how well they trade. Gotta mix it up, like in a McDonald's commercial.

There are so many well working methods i cant keep them in order myself.
the oldest one is assure yourself of trending condition, buy new high (big SL)
the most efficient one is buy a dip from the most common MA (20 or 200 period)
the most frequent entriey are given by a simple bollinger band. in very many cases you get an exhaustion or bounce at a BB (20,2) at most timeframes
the last one would be: strong bar, small inside bars, then violent breakout - scalp it.
these happen every single Day!
