I have to say, Marilyn Monroe definitely represents talent. She was beautiful, she was the it girl, she was and will always be the one and only end of story-case closed! Marilyn Monroe Is A Legend. Sadly, Nowadays There really isn't much people with the same talent or charm that they had back then.
@twinqletwinqle Marilyn Monroe wanted the film to be shot in color, but Billy Wilder (the director) convinced her to let it be shot in black and white when costume tests revealed that the makeup that Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon wore gave their faces a green tinge.
christina aguilera is the closest thing we have to marilyn. if christina would have lived when marilyn did i think there would have been some competition
When I saw this film a few years ago, I couldn't help but notice the way they had dressed her: For the time that dress was very revealing. They really sold her...it is sad, but the good thing is that she can be seen here on Youtube all these years later and truly appreciated for who she was and what she represents on so many levels...Amazing!
@unicornsgomoo Before i started to watch this video, i saw your comment and thought, "I wonder what's wrong with her dress", then after seeing her it, i was like "whoa, now I know what they meant." lol
@unicornsgomoo same here, the front is like see though-ish with sequins on her nipple area, and then the back is like open but hanging. if that made any sense lol xD
There's an exhibition in Bath in the UK at the American museum. It featured the black coctail dress at the end of Some Like it Hot. It's basically the same as that one, but in black. They were both very tight on her and she could barely move. If you're around in the UK, it's not much to get it. It's worth going to look!
I really feel undecided about her i used to love her but the more i read about her the more i dislike her.. but then i think these are bias opinions so i shouldnt believe them. I preferred her more just before she died, she was becoming a real person not just a sex symbol. Does anyone else agree she appeared to become more elegant before she died?
@GoldenEraa I feel you may be reading the wrong books on her "life". I would suggest "Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed" by Michelle Morgan and "My Sister, Marilyn" by Berniece and Mona Rae Miracle :)
I agree that Marilyn was becoming her own person and shedding the blonde bimbo persona before she passed away.
What a tragic story... Just finished the book Blonde and, although it is a fictional account of her life, it made me see her in a whole new light. I just hope that somehow, someway, she found peace and love in the next life if not this one.
Marilyn Monroe in this clip- nearly naked in Orry Kelly's great costume- is to me the movies greatest star ever. A film star for only 10 years between 1952 thru 1962 and dead nearly 50 years, she is the most famous star of all time with a gallery of great performances. She was incomparable in Some Like It Hot and should have won the Oscar. Her director Billy Wilder whom she fought with
called her only second to Garbo in ability. A legend forever....RIP Sweet Lady
I love the song! Marilyn sings it the best. But does anyone know if they filmed this scene on a set or in the Crown Room at the Del Coronado Hotel in San Diego ?
wilder was a genius. the lighting in this scene is brilliant. that spotlight comes dangerously close to "falling off". and of course nobody played clueless like MM.
I love this time period in cinema, as well as music. So classic. It's so disappointing that this kind of music is so scarce these days. If its not about sex, drugs, alcohol or violence, it isn't likely to get on the radio.
I wanna be loved by you Just you and nobody else but you I wanna be loved by you alone pooh pooh bee doo! I wanna be kissed by you Just you and nobody else but you I wanna be kissed by you alone I couldn't aspire To anything higher Than to fill the desire To make you my own paah-dum paah-dum doo bee dum, pooooo!
@madskittlez1122 Which one? The best I've ever read about Marilyn was the Anthony Summers bio "Goddess: The Secret Lives of MM". Now that one will knock your socks off!
Her biological fathers name was Mortenson (Norwegian), but she was adopted by a Baker ( who she thought was her father initially, or something along those lines)
@RussianEmpress Mortenson was named as her father on the birth certificate but many believe her birth father was Stanley Gifford. Her mother baptized her with the last name Baker so that she would have the same last name as her half-brother and half-sister.

Do you realize how SHOCKING it was that she was pictured for ONE WHOLE SCENE noticeably without a BRA?!? I'm shocked that got past the censors!

"She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson...to Gladys Baker. As the identity of her father is undetermined, she was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker."
