  • I wrote a Setzer tribute song called This Kitten is Smitten. In it I reference 15 Setzer/Cats songs. I can't seem to put the url in as a comment, but here's the youtube extention youtube.com/watch?v=TJ3wMk8lQjQ

  • Who knew!

  • *Can do much better*

  • This is the best version of this song I ever did hear. I heard him do it live & was blown away!

  • I almost didnt recognize Brian without a 6120 Gretch in his hands !!!!

  • French audience sucked.

  • @MikeGowinBand

French audience is one of the best, ask the cats about it, French people are responsible of their succes in the early days as well as UK and Japan !

  • @raphykat

I believe you, but "booing" on Cats is weak!

  • @raphykat

i m agree with you Mike, keep rockin', best regards from Paris raphael

  • I never expected this - great voice

  • This so cool! I'm gonna play it again!

  • I was never aware the Cats did this. As a fan of the Stray Cats, bluegrass, and Irish folk music I must say I love it.

  • BuleBIlly...Fucking Cool.

  • Nice I didn't know he could play bango

  • blue grass folk. love it... Brian doing the manic banjo!!! damn!!!

  • The bass player is right in there

  • They were at Paris ?! Ho mon dieu ... les meilleurs ...

  • Banjo picki'n needs a little work, but Brian is bad ass, great voice.

  • Man that guy is talented.

  • Thats a side of Brian Setzer I've never seen before.

  • He Plays The

    Banjo without

    A guitar

  • Thank you! This is one of my all-time favorite songs (with Doc Watson's performances being my favorite); but this is really super cool!

  • I LOVE STRAY CATS

  • wow great

  • STRAY CATS FOR EVER AND EVER !

  • I never knew they did a rockabilly cover of this song. Haha, aw, it's good... I love them, but still, nothing will ever compare to Doc Watson's bluegrass Shady Grove.

  • @WishingOnSunflowers this isnt a rockabilly cover this is how it was originally played old time style. doc watson learned this song from clarence ashley who played like setzer does here

  • @WishingOnSunflowers This is bluegrass, he's playing a banjo and the other guy is playing a standup bass.

  • Great song and a great cover.

  • I ♥ this!

  • Brian Setzer is such an under-estimated talent. Thanks for posting this clip!

  • Why were they being booed?

  • Great clip and a great song! Setzer quieted that booing quickly, and did it with a smile on his face; he is an incredible musician and a consummate professional.

  • Brian Setzer is one hell of a major talent. Brilliant musician.

  • Well played - but the mic on that banjo is terrible. Wish he had had a competent sound engineer for this one.

  • i think it's great! xx

  • wow, talented and multi-facted guy--I did not expect the traditional style when I clicked on this!

  • i did not kown BRIAN play this kind of music, thanks anyway CARLOS SPAIN

  • Lovely voice!!!

  • holy fuck this is bad ass

  • This is fine. Setzer makes his own kind of every music. It is not bad. And the audience can´t tell him what to sing, the cat is free to sing what he wants to sing.

  • I listen to him for the pure and simple pleasure he gives. He's was wonderful then and now. I hope he will be recognized in this country the way the Aussies and Japan have felt for decades.

  • Correction - thumb and middle

  • Cool!

  • he still did a great job on this song though. like mostly every song he does...

  • Well, I need he stick with rockabilly but I think he is free to sing what he feels he must sing.

  • Um art...... is this not Japan? and does anyone really care what the French think?

  • Cab i just shake your hand for this one :-)

  • Nice job brian

  • I knew Setzer played a little banjo, but it looks like he's frailing. Never would have guessed.

  • Thats because all french are gay... Hell yeah I´m a scandinavian

  • I don't think the French like bluegrass/folk when the go to a rock concert.

  • 89 was a good year for the Cats. I saw them 2-3 times between 88-89, and I actually thought they were much better than during their heyday in the early 80s

  • that kicks ass!

  • That's not on it , but the first Stray Cats album is a " must have. "

  • Where could i get this dvd?

  • Great song Never heard this one. Setzer rule on the banjo

  • I want to get a banjo so bad, but i want a six string and it cost to much. This a great song.

  • did brian write this one? or is it a cover.. great song

  • It's a cover. Doc Watson originally did it

  • What are you smoking man?

It's a much older song than Doc Watson...

  • Yeah the song is older, but Stray Cats is covering the Doc Watson version. Setzer is a big fan of Mr Watson, "Hell Bent" from the "Ignition" Album is a tribute to Doc Watson.

  • [It's a much older song than Doc Watson...] Yes, it pre-dates Doc Watson by over 100 years, and the melody is from "Mattie Groves", which is a Murder Ballad from England in the 1600's. Several versions of Mattie Groves are on Youtube.

I never would have thought The Stray Cats would have done this tune, or done such a credible version of it either. NOT Bad!

  • it's a very old traditional american bluegrass/folk song. many people have done their interprations of the song . my favorites are Doc Watson and of course the Jerry Garcia and David Grisman version on the Pizza Tapes. This Setzer version is pretty cool too.

  • Rockabilly Banjo! Beautiful song. V

  • Awesome . . . it makes me smile . . .

  • GREAT CLIP. SEND ME THIS DVD!

  • I GOT TO HAVE THIS DVD! IT IS GREAT!

  • Wow!
