USC, Notre Dame, etc. claims pre AP/UPI era titles as well. Alabama finished undefeated in 1937, 1945, and 1966 (and was the best team in 77), yet did not claim national titles during those seasons because the AP/UPI did not select us as champions.

@AaronLikesDick91591 There is no "system". Alabama's method to claiming NC's is the same as every other team. We have 8 UPI/AP/BCS titles and four pre poll era titles. USC, Notre Dame, etc. claims pre AP/UPI era titles as well. Alabama finished undefeated in 1937, 1945, and 1966 (and was the best team in 77), yet did not claim national titles during those seasons because the AP/UPI did not select us as champions.
