  • Keaton= bruce/batman

    Nicholson= joker

  • The only thing that kills the classic masterpiece is Prince's music. Period.

  • Didn't know Burton played a bum in the film.

  • different jokers, jack nicholson fits this gothic burton world. but ledger is the best fit for nolans.

  • No offence to Heath Ledger, but I honestly think that he's overrated as Joker. Honestly, I prefer Jack here.

  • @RandomShinigami7

What about Mark Hamill's Joker any thoughts?

  • @Johnlindsey289 He's my personal favourite. But here, we are talking about the live action films.

  • @Johnlindsey289

Best joker, imho. He nailed the most important aspect of the persona-the laugh. In a way, nothing else really matters.

  • "You're just mad that I'm a genuine freak, and you have to wear a mask!" Tim Burtons Batman movies are the character to me.

  • @EJNewbury

Agreed! He nailed the psychology. But I disagree with his take that Batman is a "normal" guy that has to put on the suit, as opposed to a "schwarzengger" type that wouldn't need it.

That is one edge I give to the Nolan films, is that it showed that Batman's 'powers' come from dedication and determination. BUT Burton's films didn't need that, because that's also Nolan's mistake--trying to explain everything away and taking all the fun out of a film that's supposed to be FUN!

  • watching this made me realize something in comparison to the Chris Nolan film's. i saw this in the theater on opening day when i was 9 & i wouldnt necessarily compare Burton's Batman w/Nolan's because they both match the progressiveness of the character for the time that they were both made & are both distinct great films & depictions true to the character which i love. Burton however made Batman & Bruce Wayne mysterious, he had mystique & no one's captured that mystique in any other comic film

  • @elijahthesamurai well said.

  • @elijahthesamurai

The new ones did got rid of the memories of the Schumacher crap

  • You can see Prince starting at 1:52 thru 1:59 in the background, center, long coat, long hair at the time, he was on set a few times observing the action most likely for inspiration for the movie soundtrack.

  • Michael keatons performance still hasn't been topped when it comes to live action films. I think Val Kilmer came a close second, but Michael.... When he puts on that outfit.... That's batman...

  • this was and is the best ''dark'' batman film, then batman begins then the dark knight the 2 after batmen returns dont even rate they were so shit !! roll on batman 3 and superman reboot !!

  • they filmed this in uk? or all over the place?

  • Worst decision Burton made: having the Joker kill Bruce's mother and father, that's the biggest comic cleche of all time: The Arch-enemy being responsible for the creation of the hero

Also there were times Nicholson acted too much like Ceaser Romaro, especally in the museum and parde scenes, they contradicted the threatening madman we saw when he first appeared. Something both Nolan and Burton failed with is this: The Joker is suppose to funny and terrifying at the same time

  • @snakes3425 and you think rami would learn from burton mistake in spider-man 3 having sandman being responisble for uncle ben death

  • @Kingoftheunknown100

I know, that was a big mistake on Rami's part, the idea that Peter Parker's uncle and Bruce Wayne's parents were killed by a two bit crook adds depth to the characters and makes them more sympathetic having it be their arch-enemy or another well known enemy makes revenge, not justice, the primary motive

  • @snakes3425 now me i liked seeing spider-man more pissed off but i knew some fans wouldn't be happy that spider-man killed a person and didnt care

  • I love the Denny Elfman´s sounds effects...

  • Does anyone agree with me when I say that Tim Burton looks GORGEOUS in this movie?

  • @caitlinjane92

    I agree :)

  • tim burton seems so cool and innocent here...now he is a fat, money hungry, stuck up jerk

  • I was never quite sure, did he drop Jack in chemicals on purpose or he couldn't hold him anymore???

  • @lukajova he grabbed him by the gloves and his glove slipped off

  • Batman 1989 vs. The Dark knight who will win?

  • @JRitter1993 Dark knight is the better movie. Batman 1989 has the nostalgia going for it though :)

    Love both of them.

  • @Strangepete yeah same here

  • @Strangepete dark knight wasnt better then this,, i got one word for nolan's dark knight movie,, OVERRATED !!

  • @JRitter1993 Probably the Dark Knight.

  • jack is the best

  • really enjoyed watching that, thanks for posting, and i agree with what someone just said, hands down keaton was the best batman ever

  • A absolutely adore this batsuit! Its the best in my opinion. :)

  • Stretchy 8:23

  • you wanna get nuts?!

  • Keaton still is the best Batman ever!

  • I always laugh when Michael tells Vicki to shut up. She was never at the same level as Selina.

  • Respect the source material. Without that series, not much would have come out of the Batman franchise at all.

  • If you don't like it don't watch

  • I mean, come on. Think about it. Thats how the joker was made. He fell into a vat of toxic chemicals. And it made him white. And his lips red. and hi hair green. A vat of what? Beauty supplies? This is just stupid. I LOVE batman, but comeon! You have to admit this is fucking stupid.

  • get off

  • @tomadetodo No. Why do you think you can control me or my actions?

  • @Kletyse,

I always find people like you irritating, you move about youtube mindlessly and post stupid crap just to draw angry responses just because you think it's funny. Not because you actually hold those opinions, which in this case I doubt, but because you enjoy making people angry.

My suggestion to everyone presently talking to Kletyse is to ignore his comments. If you don't like what he's saying, don't read it.

  • They both were good for their time. Both Nicholson and Ledger defined the Joker for their respective times. So lets quit knocking one for the other and appreciate and respect what they both did for the genre.

  • I prefer Mark Hamil, though

  • Lego Batman rocks....and Gary Oldman in the new adaption is cool !...plus the Batman animation short films...aka like The Animatrix was very hip..each generation needs a new interpretation of hero's...

  • Jack Nickolson is the Joker period

  • Sorry, I think Jack is the real Joker. Heath Ledger played more of an "ordinary" psychopath dressed up like the Joker than the Joker himself (I still love TDK). And whoever says Jack's performance in Batman wasn't "dark" or "gloomy" has never really watched this film.

  • Jack played Jack.

  • Jack Nicholson was an overweight ham in a shiny purple suit who had too much free time at the makeup counter.

  • Jon Peters: "you fell in love with her" haha he did more than that..

  • (Best appearance-Jack Nicholson) I do prefer the combed chemical dipped Joker

(Best performance-Heath) Jack's performance was good but Heath played a real dark character I mean it just went well with that movie and it's tone.

(Best laugh/voice-Mark Hamil) He has a really crazy psych ward/clown laugh. That animated show just had great voice talent overall.

  • Maybe but Jack is still one of the best actors in hollywood. Watch one flew over the cuckoos nest. Just incredible. Heath was great as the joker, but now he's dead. too bad. :(

  • dont get so worked up over it man...just because somebody likes one performance doesnt always necessarily mean theyre dismissing the other one.

  • Heath portrayed the joker in a great psychotic way, but I dunno, I wouldn't want to mess myself up so bad for a movie part to the point where I have to take meds and end up overdosing. Just my feelings on that.

  • no one except most people on the internet (sorry but you had it coming) I see it this way Heath ledger set a mile stone to the history and generation of the joker, he showed something new and still exceptable but jacks joker did the same he showed a funny joker who still can be a asshole, heaths showed how a clown like villian can still be an evil guy who gives na crap about anyone or anything, I don't say heath sucks, no He is indeed a great joker. But Jack is also great but differently.

  • yup same character but heaths joker had to be altered to fit the time or it wuldnt have worked as great as it did

  • Yeah, I thought he would have been a very good Batman with the right script. There are many interpretations of Batman(And the Joker too I'm sure), and if the producers and director were better, we could have had a good "insane" take on him. Bale is a more human and epic take on him, though.

  • This is one of the best comic-book movies of the history.

  • @eberini no, it IS!

  • i have had this movie since 1989 stil in its video cassett box

  • jack nicholson a crazy joker

  • Best BATMAN yet. I like Bale, but this one is just far more interesting to watch for me. I love the artistic take in this film. Jack Joker, Michael as Batman... god that just rocks too much. I wish I could go back to those years. It was such an iconic time. Too bad today's kids will never know it and only live with the assumption that everything that comes out of hollywood's ass today, is better. ;p

  • @Narcomics

    Most agree.

  • The fans and media absolutley hated the casting of Michael Keaton as Batman originally but now he's probably the most popular actor to play the role.

  • yeah because michael did a comedy movie like a tear earlier right?

  • yep movies like Beatlejuice and Mr Mom.

  • It's hard to believe that is true but it is. But he thew it all in there faces how all we want is Michael Keaton to play Batman because he is the best annd a tough act 2 follow.

  • @Zepp900 really? they thought it was a bad idea???

  • Yes, at the time, Keaton was known primarily for his roles in comedies such as Mr Mom and Beetlejuice. That, and the fact that Keaton is neither tall or muscular didn't win him any appreciation in the role either. It wasn't until the release of the movie that people were blown away by his performance.

  • yep cuz they wer expecting a beetlejuice and they gat batman a series keaton

  • "you're not exactly normal are you?"

"its not exactly a normal world is it?"

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that line :)

  • I can see why people prefer Tim Burton's films over Nolans. But, honestly guys I think its because of blatant nostalgia for the films Tim Burton directed, 'cause the films were a first exposure to Bat's world "Batman" specifically...

  • and still i think the old burton batmans are so much more artistic..maybe not so interesting on the psychological aspect but maaaan thats batman it has to be a bit fiction in it...still if ya take a look at bman returns...oooh dude i just can say thats a nice one ^^

  • Batman, original intended to be realistic in his original 1939 start. He was based on pulp elements and classic film noir.... He commonly fought mobsters and....you know.

  • @TimesHaveChanneled

But the new movies still blow away Schumacher's crap don't you think?

  • This documentary is very intersting. Especially being able to see some of the behind the scenes stuff

  • yeah daniel day lewis but i feel he may be too old, maybe. him or pearce.

  • i think that guy pearce should be looked at to play the joker following ledgers death. Not because he's an australian but because i believe he's a quality actor who could bring something scary to the role.

  • I think daniel day lewis...

  • first batman - great

the second - not so great

  • Jesus. They're different types of films - I know this isn't hard to understand. Good god.

  • I don't think Nolan's Batman is as good as ppl think either. But thanks for keeping it civil ;)

  • all you said was bull and i did not bother to finish it :)

  • whatshername as in Michelle Pfeiffer? I don't think he focused on stars anymore than Begins focused on Oldman, Caine, Freeman, Bale, and (GAG) Katie Holmes.

  • He looks like Beetlejuice at 0:56, lol.

  • I'll agree that this was entertaining but it was flawed. "Batman Returns" was superior and even Tim Burton himself thinks as much. In any event- Christopher Nolan's interpretation trumps all of the aforementioned.

  • the dark knight copied this movie from the mob scene with all the bosses around the table to the last scene of them being on a building. Ledger even fell off like jack. The dark knight was a glorified version of this movie. sorry

  • Perhaps one can refer to it as "glorified" because it was an improvement!

  • Ledger didn't fall off like jack. Ledger's Joker was tied upside down by batman.

  • I don't think the Dark Knight was anything like Burton's film. But it didn't feel like Gotham and there was no chemistry between Bruce and Rachel at all. That was the lamest romance idea ever.

  • yea the scenery wasnt gotham at all

  • @emeek77 maybe some of the images influenced him, but the plot is incredibly different lol.

  • Burton saying Bruce is a human being and the actual actor not being a really buff dude makes perfect sense to me. Burton speaks of a visual metaphor here. Is harder to believe a big dude is frail than a regular dude, ain't it?

However... the actual batman IS big. XD

To me, Burton's Gotham city's always been you know like... GOTHAM city. Comic-wise looks pretty much the same... scaryily the same. :)

  • Tim Burton puts the "GAWTH~!!!1one" in "Gotham City", yuhknowhattimsayin'!? XDD

  • i disaggre with burton on the fact that batman is no "arnold". batman is a larger than life figure. if you want to realy get down to it he is more and less human.

  • i agree about kim. but jack nicolson was born to play the joker man, dam it ,lol.

    big up for uploading

  • No, if I remember correctly, she had snapped photo's of him previously that night. He just took the film. The next morning she wakes up in her own room and realizes that they're missing.

  • nah, i think he means her legitimate connections... since bruce cant just suddenly say batman told me, would rais suspicions.

than and the camera film with his picture unmasked, he wanted that too

  • kim basinger was so hot in this movie

  • @PeterParker2Spidey still dont like her

  • best batsuit ever!!

  • "Lets be blunt, he sounds queer."

Let's be blunt: You're an asshole.

  • this isnt rare! this is a extra on the batman dvd i got

  • no its not

  • The guy taking about the Joker's clothes sounds like Stewie from Family Guy.LOL.

  • He simply sounds British, you're a little ignorant aren't you?

  • thank you a lot man,was very rare video.

  • Thanks for posting this! Awesome! 5/5 stars.

  • Micheal Keaton in the bat suit man, it makes him a scary guy.

  • its what I like.

  • Exactly.

  • lol I found this from BoF too.

  • Hi BOF'ers!!

  • lol, so true.
