Sherlotta does not die. At the end of the game, she realized something about the crystal core, that she had to have made it. And she did. When the character goes back to the spring in the forest, he tosses the crystal that sherlotta gave him/her into the place where it was. If you go back there after this, the crystal core will be there again, and sherlotta the cat reappears. The crystal core is above time, and when it was born in the present, it was born in the past and the future too.
