What a great loss our country suffered when Rev. King was murdered. I wish that his martyrdom still meant something today but our history is being lost also.
@illmatic826 i understand my mom went to work that day also i wish i had been in school because i would also have liked to spend the day learning about HIM
The only true American holiday that means a damn about what this country should stand for and what so many have died for since our founding, FREEDOM! I hope everyone took the time today to realize what this day should mean for EVERYONE, FREEDOM. I think many of us are getting lost about what we are fighting for anymore. I also think that there is no better holiday than the one that gives you FREEDOM, freedom to do what you want, pray how you want, speak or sing how you want, look how you want,
As a white 21 year old I can't think of another person whose altruistic and beautiful vision of a more fair world has been more corrupted and twisted by the very same self righteous and bigotry that he was sworn to wipe away with his message. Today millions of children will be forced to repeat the beliefs he has given the world without a frame of reference or basic understanding of what it means to be honorable and respectful to your brothers in humanity and see it just as a homework assignment.
I don't agree with everything Dr.King stood for. I don't agree with his economic views for instance, but he was a great man because of his opposition to state imposed and state sanctioned segregation and discrimination as well as for his resistence to the Vietnam War. Also, anyone who want to read a defense of God's higher law for Man should read his Letter From a Birmingham Jail. Magnificant!!
Today is M.L.K. day & the only thing that I noticed is people not just blacks but people are using this day as a free day to do NOTHING first of all nobody gets a raise/ M.L.K. PayCheck, & the kids just had a Holiday break & sat on they butts for 2 weeks & now they get M.L.K. off???, I mean really dont you think that M.L.K. wanted kids to go to school instead of just sitting at home wasting they potential??? neither one of my parents got paid my pops went to work on M.L.K. day & he was PROUD.
