  • Hmmm. The american version was more flashy... But I like this better. The other one took 10 fucking years.

  • FFVII. Probably the ONLY FF game in which the basic American version was better than the original Japanese version. Nowadays the American versions are quite inferior unless you get the International version of the game (still puts you SOL for FFXII-IZJS).

  • dude..it's not about whether it's "realistic" or not

it's a game for god-sake, it's an ART-form, and it's supposed to be FUN, cool, whatever!

I honestly am THANKFUL for the US-version Supernova (the 'current' one), rather than this...boring lame shitty super-short animation...make it LESS EPIC!!

  • I noticed that Sephiroths failed Ex Burst in Dissidia looks alot like this...

also I prefer this Supernova over the ridicoulus solar system destroying Supernova.

  • This seems way more accurate, rather than the obscured US version. It seems to rely on a real supernova, rather than a fantasy-based doomsday thought, though I liked the US version way more Sephiroth-ish, this would've been a perfect animation to show after the first supernova were summoned, rather than seeing all the planets go by one by one... It looks nice here too!

  • But...but...The Sun can't go supernova!

  • @PhantomSephiroth Well only one logical explanation: This is final "FANTASY". The RPG series where you can bring a Sword in a Gun fight and win.

  • In the new Super Nova the party actually gets hit/obliterated by the expanding Sun along with Earth. It makes sense that they take a lot of damage.

In this one it's like we see how a couple of planets disappear in a gleaming light. Then it cuts back to the party and they take damage for some reason.

  • @NeoTStyle But yet that logic is not worth waiting a minute and a half for.

  • Would've been nice to include this in the other versions so that, if he used it more than once per battle, they could've shown this shorter version the second time onward.

  • Super Nova is no illusion. It is a demonstration as all attacks in Final Fantasy are. Every attack shows - without the meaning of the stats and all these things - what the characters and enemies can do. And Sephiroth is strong enough to unleash a Super Nova. Just because he uses it in the battle dimension it doesn't mean he does it during the story. It just shows what he can do. These things are fact. That this is an illusion has no proof other than the thing about that attacks are...

  • @Cetra29

...demonstrations of their powers. And for those who ask "Why does he use a Meteor when he really can use a Super Nova?" - it is a video game. Sephiroth can easily kill the whole party while they are sleeping. But he doesn't since the story would be over. He can easily destroy the planet without Meteor since he has absorbed the knowledge of the Cetra in the lifestream. But he doesn't since there would be no plot like this one, et cetera. And it is fact that Sephiroth is the...

  • @Cetra29

...strongest character. It is officialy stated and can always be proved. He has an indestructable and the greatest of all wills and the willpower is important for the power in Final Fantasy VII since only those whose will resists the lifestream can use the knowledge of the lifestream and that's why Sephiroth has already absorbed a great amount of it. Plus he is JENOVA's legacy. It is no wonder that he can destroy planets and unleash a Super Nova.

  • Either way, it destroys the solar system. That's the part that makes no sense whatsoever. Might as well milk it for absurdity, right?

  • At least this version doesn't keep you waiting.

  • U.S. version better.

  • So, FF7 is based on Earth? Isn't it based on Gaia or w/e it's called?

  • @kolosssal

Well Gaia is Greek for Earth so, yeah.

  • Pretty vague, but I would've taken it over the two-minute version. He skipped Neptune and Mars. >_>

  • Totally agree with the "Supernova is an illusion" theories!

Also would've liked if we saw this version after seeing the cinematic one once. The second time is just time to go make a sandwich unless you're planning on using KOTR.

  • Would it have killed them to include this in the English version so that if he used it more than once in a battle, we could see this shortened version instead? I got a bit tired of seeing multiple Supernovas, even the first time I fought him.

  • Sephiroth: Galaxian... Explosion!

  • naa the not japanese supernovas are better XD

  • Too short? Do you mean it must long 2 min like the other one!?

  • ours is way cooler

  • IT'S TOO SHORT! T___T

  • This may sound fanboy-ish, but I took it as another one of his illusions that the party felt was so real. Which is why it didn't kill them, and he could do it over and over. An attack so strong, it was as if the entire system was destroyed.

Granted, the whole game was about Seph summoning Meteor, which was just gonna destroy the planet, yet in the boss fight he simply summons Supernova and destroy the entire system? That would make Meteor completely moot. Video game logic ftw.

  • @ShinCZ actually it is logical because if it wasn't that way then the solar system, including a part of the earth, would be destroyed before meteor came

  • @ShinCZ its probably a fear based illusion. You know, a mental shock that would bring you to the very edge of life and death.

  • lol. Our version is fucking epic.

  • the english version supernova is the best !

  • is this a joke?

  • it has WAY more logic that destroying the entire solar system (sun included) a lot of times AND that in the sequel movie the sun still exists XD

  • I watched this and was like..... that's it?

  • wow this version is a fail compared to the american lol

  • Much better than the English Supernova.

  • This move sucks! The English Version is a million times more badass

  • @ZPokemonfanA

yeah but the attack takes as long as it did to get that far into the game

  • @thedarkfiredragon

Hey impatient noob, The game is about 10-30 hours long or so, the move is only 2 minutes!

  • @ZPokemonfanA

Dude calm down it was just a joke lol,But you gotta admit first time watching it it FELT around 5 or 6 minutes rather than 2

  • Well, such a short animation is more fitting for an attack that CAN'T EVEN KILL YOU.

  • I blinked and I missed it!

  • Wow, this was..not time consuming :))

  • Dumb idiot

  • Supernova is a limit break of sephiroth ???

  • @ARASPIDEREON No! IT'S NOT HIS LIMIT BREAK! It's a real move that happened years ago and destroyed the universe... WE ARE DEAD, REMEMBER!?!?!?

  • It certainly saved us about 5 minutes thou.

  • Supernova deserves to look like this, especially since it can't kill you.

  • Japanese version is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy super duper heaven better cuz it just 5 seconds but the U.S. version is pissed off cuz u gotta wait 2 minutes and pray for your luck to surivve and is impossible to skip and i understand why square do this crap!

  • @rickengothic

Actually the attack only does a % of damage to your party so it will never kill you, you don't have to pray you survive, you always will

  • @rickengothic

Actually Supernova can't kill you. It ALWAYS does 31/32 of y our health. So if you had 1 HP, Supernova woul do 0 damage, I've seen it.

  • FFV's ALMAGEST > supernova

  • the 2 minutes version is more epic than this. This animation is too short

  • Oh god two more minutes! Bathroom break. WHAT? Over already?

  • where is my calclus?!

  • @supershadow125

without calculus he can't summon the commet to destroy the planets in the galaxy lol

  • @OrcWyvern Remember kids, always learn Calculus if you want to rule the world.

  • Boring....

  • Better than a two minute animation for one attack.

  • Nah, i prefer the Alternate one that one makes you feel like your fucked! this one is like "Uh Oh, Uh Oh, UH OH.... oh? that was it? well.. that was fast" lol

  • That's EXACTLY what I think.

The long version had me praying to the heavens for luck to survive. And that SLOOOOOW aproach of the ball-flame to the characters...

    "HE'S GOING TO OWN ME!!!"

But this one is too short...

  • Well true, that. He might as well ressurect Aerith and then kill her again, THEN blow up the universe. Then dance to a 9 minute extended remix of the victory theme and spin around jenova's head whilst pelvic thrusting. Then travel to mars and slice it to pieces with his sword which takes another 4 minutes then when he gets back he pisses all over cloud saying "ISephiroth motherfucker!"

  • He'll revive Aerith, wait until Cloud cheats on Tifa with her, then kill Aerith again, then destroy the entire solar system 28 times, then cut the sun in half, then hack your memory card and delete your data and make your console and disks explode from pure epic ownage, melt your skin, come out of the tv, kick you grandma in the face, do your mom, and then destroy the real life solar system, that's his true ultimate attack!

    XD

    this should become a sport.

  • Kefka already did it XD

  • Hahaha!!!

Kefka's an entirely new level of freakin wierd pwnage

  • Cloud wouldn't do that...I think...yeah he most likely would...

  • @LostKitsuneRonin OMG hes really that fricken epic best comment ever bro

  • @LostKitsuneRonin Your comment is just lol! Couldn't stop laughing.. my eyes hurtt11.!>!!!

  • @SwordSkill2

Thank ya kindly, I have a tendency for epic comments xD

  • @LostKitsuneRonin lmao! that's hilarious =]

  • @LostKitsuneRonin This is horrible, makes no sense, and I don't understand how people can thumbs up it.

  • @valkyrio

Well it was a completely random com-WHA-HUH-WHA!?!!?!?! THAT many thumbs up!?

  • This is pretty anticlimatic, but the western one is so over the top that its more of a cutscene than an attack and hard to take seriously. Especially since it shows each individual planet getting pwne'd (except for mars for some reason) But its the ridiculous over-the-topness that makes it awesome.

  • Oh don't worry, Uranus and Neptune don't get a look in either, but they were trying WAY WAY WAY too hard. Plus the fact that they had the planets names appear made it seem like a children's education program. It was like thankyou, just in case we confused the massive planet with the red spot with the one thats closest to the sun.

  • @ZaikuZERO Dont forget uranus and neptune.

  • @ZaikuZERO I think it would have been cool if at a certain hit point range, he called super nova and it would have been an instant game over

so say.. seph has 100,000 hp

if you ever knocked it down to either 77777,7777,777,77,7

he would call super nova and the game would be over...

  • @ZaikuZERO True and that is why we love it, right?

  • @ZaikuZERO

    Same with Neptune and Uranus

  • @ZaikuZERO I mean probably like everyone else who saw that attack for the first time - i thought shiiit - how are they gonna recover from this one? I thought it was one of those scripted cutscene attacks that ends up ending the battle, until i saw the numbers in the low thousands at the end and the battle continuing

  • I prefere this version of Super Nova, it's much quicker.

  • What happened? I blinked & all I saw were the credits. ^_-

  • It looks better in Dissidia.

  • DIssidia uses the Western version

  • It's more like a mix of the two. Unsurprising, really.

  • LOL BRB

    ok im back

  • By the way, extremely lame animation. Very anticlimactic for the last boss's supermagic.

  • Well, that's why they improved it in the rerelease, isn't it? LOL

  • ...yes.

  • There should be a timer then if you dont kill him til then he uses super nova and one hit ko everbody then gameover it would be a way more cooler and crazy

  • It would be nice if there were some way to shorten the sequence like this in the US version. The first time I fought Sephi, I spent the majority of the fight watching the Supernova cut scene because he used it just about every other move

  • Except I never get tired of that version...

  • Is it me or is the non-Japanese version twelve times longer?

  • it suits the amount of damage it gives you seriously he destroys the earth to deal 6000dmg

  • The damage is based on a fraction of your maximum HP.

One thing that disappoints me about this version: Where are all the equations and kabbalistic drawings! Come on, those were epic, and they really fit into his whole symbolic scheme!

  • Calculus. It was there because it had to do with space and calculations for the comet destroying the solar system.

  • I'm not so sure about that.

The only thing I'm absolutely certain about was that the tree of the sephirot was depicted.

  • It's calculus lol.

  • I like the US version of Supernova a lot better. It has so much more of an "oh shi-" factor than this version.

  • I think I'm somewhere between the US & the Japanese. The US version was ridiculously long & kind of a wall-banger, but the Japanese version was a little TOO short, & quite anticlimactic.

  • I could make myself a sandwich, eat it and be back in time for the US version of Supernova to end.

  • Slurp instead of boom. xD

  • Eh, that spell animation was weak sauce. I like the North American release version better. Sure, it's ridiculously over-the-top, but that's why I love it! Who can't love an attack that wipes out (or gives the illusion of wiping out) every planet in the solar system one-by-one? It's amazing and epic and COOL. That's what it's all about! I see two programmers putting the finishing touches on this spell animation, looking at each other, and yelling "AWESOME!" *high five*

  • Or maybe it was just a summon. What the hell is the point of making an illusionary sun destroying attack? Why stop there? Why not destroy a galaxy in an illusion or the universe.

  • The destruction of the universe would be difficult to conceptualize. Not very effective way of scaring people, if all you're doing is making them go, "What the fuck was that?"

I also think this was sort of a, "This is what I'm planning to do" thing. He more-or-less comes out & says that he's going to go around, killing planets one by one. Scary shit.

I also don't agree with its categorization as a summon. It fits the bill in every way except that there's no summon monster.

  • Another thing that differs from a summon spell is that he is there when the attack hits.

  • Ooh, good catch. To me, it seems to have characteristics more indicative of a really strong magic spell, such as Comet or Ultima.

  • If they kept this, it would have made the fight a lot shorter...

But no, we're stuck with the ridiculously epic animation instead. Better go make a sandwich, this'll go on for a while...

  • If that did the damage that the US Supernova caused, then that'd be the perfect supernova.

  • This is better imo, just because it's shorter...but it's kinda hard to tell wtf is going on.

  • I like this one better. At least it does not blow up the sun, TWICE. Where did the second sun and planets came from? Of course, if the US version is instant kill, that would be ok.

  • lol and if your weaker it happens like 5 times. lol

  • It's a magical illusion. None of that stuff is actually happening but the magic shows you to strike fear into you.

The more fear you feel the stronger the attack is. The spell feeds off your fear pretty much. So it shows you the end of the universe then it comes after YOU.

  • what a shit

  • there are morons complaining about the US version? could only be japophiles..

i'll give you credence for gameplay and length concerns but other than that the US version is a work of Art. Like someone said you'd have to be passionless or lack an appreciation for art to not like it.

Also i still doubt this is the real japanese version..

  • Or people who like attacks that don't go on for-fucking-ever with no way of skipping. :P

Knights of the Round annoyed the piss out of me too.

  • yeah the english one was more... well Epic

  • Uhh. . .I like the English a bit better

  • wow... much more simpler. and the damage seems to be lighter. or is it because of their high magic defense?

  • Esta es mas versatil y veloz,lo q hace q la pelea sea mas fluida,en cambio la Supernova de la version internacional (yo tngo la europea XD)es muy cinematica,y medio como q t aburre un poco

  • The Western version in superior by miles. When I first saw it, I remember thinking...

    "this fucker is scary."

And for those of you who say it's just an illusion, you're wrong, you have no proof. And Gaia is not Earth.

  • it is just an illusion, it has to be. Because he is still waiting for The Meteor to destroy the planet in actuality. If it were that easy it would have been done by now and you wouldn't survive

Doesn't really make it any less if you follow the the philosophy of the game. Or just look at The Matrix for example.

Not sure what you meant about Gaia and earth. But the name of The Planet was specifically left out for a reason, and confusion of being earth or not adds to the illusion concept

  • All you people that hate the U.S. version have no passion. Yeah it took for ever, so what, Knights of Round took for ever and I don't see you fruits complaining about it.

  • Actually, many people do also complain about KOTR.

  • this version is fucked up

  • The U.S version wasn't overkill. The only real problem is that it was 2 minutes long and couldn't be skipped. If you made the attack shorter or skippable then I bet people wouldn't mind as much.

  • The only thing I minded was the fact that he blows up the solar system in our version, and somehow everything turns out okay.

Well, that and the summon itself being so long you can grab some Burger King and be back before you regained control of your characters. :P

  • I like the US verison better, IMO. Not that I don't like this version, it's just that when sephiroth used it on me the first time, it really put a gauge on just how powerful this motherfucker is.

  • Looks like you need to level up.

  • No, it should nearly wipe you out because it's a percentage-based attack. There's no need to level up.

  • lol u can kill sephiroth before he do this attk so yeah u NEED to lvl up idk atleast get KOR or lvl 4 limits

  • Yeah... I like this version better. The U.S./International one was too dramatic for no reason.

  • u.s. version is much better!!! it was the best summon of the game!

  • Ok, in reality, the US version should be instant kill, game over. But I don't really think it's over the top. Actually, I thought it was the coolest thing I've ever seen the first time I've seen that attack. The Japanese one just looked like a solar flare. Just a flash of light and everything disappears. The US Super Nova made Sephiroth look a lot stronger, visually anyways...

  • This is one of the dumbest responses on here.

Of course, since this is YouTube, that doesn't surprise me.

  • JPN version came out first, explaining why it's like this. The US version came out later, and they added a few new things.

They released the US version in Japan as "FFVII International", so it has the extra bosses the US version got, and probably the long Supernova move, too.

  • I love how people are giving thumbs downs to people saying this beats the American version, because it does. The American one is far too overly dramatic and over rated for a move that can't even 1-Hit KO anybody in your party. I mean really now, the move blew up the entire galaxy but a few random people standing on a rock shrug it off, cast some healing magic and go on their merry way? How the hell does THAT make any sense? Really now...

  • Well, hey it was long, but I remember the first time seeing it. It blew my mind and I was awestruck. Plus it deal a lot statuses to you, and to the average player back then, that was a game over.

Anyways, the fact that he can do it multiple times doesnt make any sense either. My point, its a video game, Final Fantasy at that. Your judging a game where a punch can do more damage that gunshot.

  • Point taken. It's still pretty silly though. :P

  • Each has their own merits. The japanese version is more realistic, but the English version will have you thinking "omg wth i'm so screwed" for a good two minute, and then give you quite a bit of time to poke fun at it.

  • Well, glad that ones not two minutes long.

  • This beats the American version just because its so short.

  • This one's pretty cool

  • Much better than the American version.

  • i think that gaia in ff7 is basically an alternative earth, so there isn't a plot hole there. earth has been called gaia before

  • Revive Aeris FFV International

  • Wow. I wonder why the two versions are so different.

  • wow, i like our version way better

  • agree much kooler looking i thiought the jap one would be more destructive

  • Jeez. It's Japanese version, but after they released the game worldwide the SuperNova you see in FF7 is International SuperNova. So it applies to Japan version too.

  • Americans put so many plotholes in that attack

  • Huh!? Thank Goodness we got the long "WTF?! HELP ME GOD!!!" version. Thanks for the video.

  • so here in america we watch everytging blow up and there in japan you see that

  • Umm, the reason why this one beats the american version is because FF7 isn't set on earth or the milkyway galaxy. The american one is just prettier. It doesn't make any sense at all. Id take this one over the pretty one simply because its more in line with the game's storyline.

  • Uh, you do know that Jupiter's right there, right?

Although the Great Red Spot (or whatever it's called, I forget), is in an odd place.

  • Jupiter doesn't own the orange/reddish gas giant look >.>

  • *quietness...*

    *slowly claps once*

    *silence*

  • ya that wasnt anywere near as good as the american version was

  • Damn, that was, unimpressive, glad we got the better version/

  • Dammit, why did they extend it in The SCEA and SCEE versions, that almost wasted 2 minutes of my life seeing that, wish they left it the same.

  • To give us geeks a chance to refill our coca cola glass, watch some porn and have a nap after 17 hours of playing

  • Best answer ever. xD

As for me, I got up and ate cookies.

  • Dammit, why did they extend it in The SCEA and SCEE versions, that almost wasted 2 minutes of my life seeing that, wish they left it the same.

  • Yeah, that's right, the Japanese one is lame, but I really hate when people use Sephiroth's American Supernova as an evidence to say that he could ACTUALLY wipe out the whole solar system.

  • it's just an illusion created by Jenova...

  • An illusion that hurts.

  • Wooo..So this looked like it just blasted a galexy to hell

  • first time i see something that in the american version is better that the japanese

  • wow im glad they changed that

  • poor one... I like the longer version, it's a lot cooler. that japanese version sucks

  • Just a stupid Big Bang theory.

The Supernova in NA version is somewhat friggin' hell as enlarging the sun!

  • Man, the US version is so much better! I like seeing Sephiroth having Super Nova destroy the solar system, it's cooler and somewhat funny too!

  • not mars!
