The funniest thing about this commercial? It's that these lines:

"For those who purchased something other than a Sega Genesis... our sincere condolences."

"What a waste."

...make the most most sense in reference to the Sega CD and 32X, rather than any competing consoles. I honestly thought that's what they were talking about until 0:23.

After all, what is a waste, if not buying multiple consoles just for the sake of using one? Calling almost every standalone console "a waste" makes no sense.

I actually had both systems (because my older cousin was a major videogame junkie with a job). Anyways, I can tell right now that while Sega did indeed have the stronger system, I had far more Super Nintendo games than Sega ones. Segas games tended to be of a darker tone. the systems were like day and night that way, but I liked them both. Like Gotham City and Metropolis.

They annoyed Nintendo fans cause they could not stand the fact that SEGA was always better than Nintendo. And of course you don't have to add Mega CD and a 32X to beat Snes. SEGA Mega Drive was far a better console with loads of GEMS! By adding the extras you had a console that it was soo far ahead of its time that majority of gamers could not follow. I am glad I always been a serious and hardcore gamer and played all of the so called "failures" back then. SO GLAD!

Do not get me wrong I own a Snes with lots of games, DS, Wii, Gamecube, my first console back in 1989 was NES but Nintendo did not convince me and I turned out to be a hardcore SEGA fan since 1990. Their ads simply were telling you the facts. The experience in gaming I had with SEGA games and consoles cannot be matched with any other company till now! SEGA does what Nintendon't. That is why big N is a casual gaming company and SEGA is core one!

It was, but then both the 32X and CD sold terrible, and the project was scrapped. I think there's only 1 or 2 working prototypes.

as far as I know the neptune was planned to be a standalone 32X (YOU CAN PLAY GENSESI GAMES ASWELL) and there was something called Sega CDX wich was a standalone Sega CD but it was soo over-priced no one bought it :D

You'd still need the Sega CD accessory to play Sega CD software.

Well SEGA Neptune was going to be a SEGA Genesis and a SEGA 32X in one unit, it would only run off one power adaptor. It was going to be compatible with SEGA CD as well. It was going to be very cool. The controller looked identical to the Model 2 SEGA Saturn Controller.

SEGA decided not to release the SEGA Neptune because the SEGA Saturn was ready for release.

Another reason was probably because the SEGA CD and SEGA 32X sold poorly.

Because the 32X was developed by Sega of America and the Saturn was done by Sega of Japan, and they apparently suck at communicating with each other.

I had the complete sega monster system lol. Made a pretty cool sytem with being able to play both 16 and 32 bit games at the time before the regular 32 bit systems came out. Genesis had the game so didn't sega cd especially in the rpg department like Vay and Lunar. The only 32X game I had was vurtua racing which was very cool. To bad the 32X didn't get the support. I thought it had some good potential.

I had the whole thing too. 32x and Saturn were comming out around the same time and I thought the 32x was supposed to upgrade your system to the level of the saturn. I figured that saturn was for people that didn't own a genesis and if you did own one you could just upgrade it and not have to buy a saturn. Boy was I mistaken! The 32x was just like a genesis with more colors and the segacd was like a genesis with cd music. The only 32xcd games were better versions of FMV games like nighttrap.

I think Sega CD wouldve been a big success if they didnt go with the horrible FMV games.

And 32X came out after the Saturn did in Japan, so everyone was like, what the hell sega? But both had many unique games that have never been ported to other consoles (like chaotix) and many sega cd games (not the horrible FMV games) and also many good Saturn and Dreamcast games as well.

Well, part of it may have been out of Sega's control: Digital Pictures and the idiotically arrogant attitude of its leader: Tom Zito.

To give you an idea of his ineptitude, this is what he had to say about his FMV games compared to a good game: "I personally could never really care enough about Princess Zelda to spend the 40 hours I needed to spend battling through the forest in order to rescue her."

Sega not making systems was a more clever move

than most people realize. They now do not have to invest in consoles, leaving them to rake in the dough form different directions. Now Sega is friends with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. But whhile Sega is buds with those systems, they are not buds to each other.

Good commercial.....too bad it's a fucking lie. Sega CD was probably one of the worst systems in history, and 32X was a waste of money... Not only that, but the whole idea of ADDING console parts to existing consoles to make one big mess, each with its own seperate ac adapters, etc....what an embarrassment.
