Hardcore has evolved. when it began, it started as a faster, more pissed-off version of punk. Minor Threat, Black Flag, and Bad Brains were the first wave of hardcore bands. today, it sounds a lot different (heavier, more screaming, etc.), but "old school" hardcore is those types of bands.
