  • It does not weigh 2 tons (or 2 tonnes) and it's not a 4.4.

  • WHO HIRES THESE CLOWNS???????

  • Clutchless? The DCT has TWO clutches! "Clutchpedaless" is more like it.

  • NOOOOOOOB driver do some research before reviewing smartass

  • Americans shouldn't do car reviews unless its driving in a straight line!

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if anyone has ever died in luxury?

  • bull shit av gt an m3 fully loaded.convertible.n iget 0.60 n 4.1 all the time.c63.wipe out n rs4 wudnt waste my time,

  • Because America can make a good car nowadays can't they?

  • cltchless? Are you kidding me? It has an extra clutch! It's a Double Clutch Transmission

  • What a RETARD HOW DID THAT FAG GET THAT JOB WOW???

  • Hell get one with a stick and you will really enjoy it.

  • I think you have to have M on when launching

  • I'll tell you 'why not' you yank prick. because you have your left foot still on the fucking brake!!!!!!!!!! what the fuck is up wi u. By the way nearly all those buttons u pressed are activated by pressin the 'M' button.

  • What a fucking dumbass!

  • he makes the car sound bad in the beginning and the end, the car is beautiful not only that it's has a legendary pedigree of the history of M-Models and being a BMW his stats are wrong hit doesnt have a 4.4 V8 and whats the big deal about 4.5 0-60 in the Coupe and Sedan vs This which is 4.8 of course its gonna bit a slower because of the weight and u dont hold the brake and gas at the same time u dumbass the car plus u do not brake on launch control! btw this is a serious performance car! ///M3

  • 2:30 How is this car a 4.4 v8? its a 4.0 v8 for gods sake get ur facts right

  • hes going to break the car lol. NO BRAKE ON LAUNCH CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Uhh...you're not supposed to hold the brake and gas. You move your foot from the brake to the gas and then release the shift lever when you want to launch.

The car will hold the brakes for you until you release the shift lever, so you don't need to worry about letting off the brake when you move to the accelerator.

  • Your foot should never touch the brake when engaging launch control. That's why it didn't work. It's a bit confusing the first time, but once you get it, engaging launch control is pretty easy.

  • I completely agree. I always find a car like the M3 to be a useless convertible. I mean, if you want a convertible buy a 3 series -- you'll still get the same feel. I mean clearly you don't care much about performance if you buy a convertible M3 which would weigh it down. I mean cars like the S2000 make sense to have a top down, but a car like the M3 -- No. This was BMW's flop in my opinion. And I've been a serious fan for years.

  • Shiftronic, Tiptronic, Selectshift, Geartronic, paddle shifters, Torqueshift, etc.....just more creative names for a lame automatic transmission. Just more complex, fail-ready, electronic garbage to make some rider think they are driving a stick.

If you want to shift, get a manual, they are cheaper, less failure prone, easier to fix than an autoslushbox, more efficient, and you have more control!

  • glorious car in this guise. i just ignored what the guy was saying

  • This car isn't supposed to be a performance car, it's meant to be a cruise-slowly-so-everybody-sees-you car. It's beautiful without its roof, it truly is sex on wheels...I suspect flooring the accelerator pedal must be like having an orgasm...

  • sexy ass c ar fokes

  • wat are they talking about my car is a GREAT M car

  • Edmunds' title is incorrect; it should be:

    "Topless and Clutch-Pedal-Less."

There is of course still a clutch (2 concentric clutch disks actually).

6 on the floor is still a more fun choice, IMO.

  • Actually is not Clutch less, it does has 2 clutches electronically operated. Is parto of the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe program developed by the Group Volkswagen and BMW partnership.

The next gear is ready before the change is done, after the shift is made the free clutch will select next gear and so on that is why you need two of them.

  • @barnutz328i You should "shut the fuck up"

  • "Tiptronic, dual clutch, SMG, DCT, MDKG, manumatic, all just more terms for the automatic transmission aka the slushbox."

That was an uneducated, silly post.

SMG = squential MANUAL gearbox. DCT = dual CLUTCH tranny.

Automatic transmissions have torque converters (tranny and motor are Always connected), which is why they have trouble transmitting power at low speeds and lack efficiency. SMG and DCT have clutch(es); they are just operated by solenoids/hydraulics instead of your left foot.

  • you don't know what your talking about

  • this is the only test where they say it was not a good M car.

  • My dream car.

4 seats with everyday practicality and civility, combined with brilliant performance that exaggerates ones actual ability. Add to that a hardtop convertible, and it is truly a car for all seasons.

Love the look with the roof down without the B Pillar.

  • Tiptronic, dual clutch, SMG, DCT, MDKG, manumatic, all just more terms for the automatic transmission aka the slushbox. They can make autos faster than ever than any manual, but they're still an automatic, and any car equipped with one is NOT a sports car. And V8s in M3s? Fucking blasphemy. 20 years from now you probably won't even be able to get one in 2wd.

  • haha, BMW fanboys can't take a little negative review. If you actually do your research, they praised the coupe in a separate review. The convertible is a pig with few hundred extra lbs. God forbid its actually a 4.0 and he misstated it at 4.4. Beautifully styled car though.

  • 2.17 dats funny goin somewer lol

  • A convertible is not meant to be a "serious performance" car.

  • edmunds love audi thats why they always are unsatisfied with bmw. bmw are the best. Best sound, best handling ,and audi is jus piece of crap with enormous understeer

  • these testers are sooo fucking dumb, too big, its now just the right size they used to be too small. and the lighter v8 400 hp is gonna kick ass like a sports car should. and it looks great

  • Nah, BMW should have stuck with 6s in the M3s.

  • These motherfuckers did NOT have one nice thing to say about this kick ass car...what a bunch of crap... that really pisses me off... i'd buy these car in a heartbeat if i had the money of course... it is fast and you have to look badass driving this beauty

  • i love that fat rim of the steering wheel.

  • It's a convertible. The buyers for that version of the M3 don't care about numbers they just want to look bad ass in a drop top that has an M badge.

  • arent they going to say anything NICE about it? usually these critics are hampering mercedes cars, now BMW?!

  • This is The Best Four Seat Convertible EVER!!!

  • 4.4 V8? More like 4.0 V8 The roadtesters are the worst in the world. and also the cant say coupe right. soo anoyin!

  • what a tit...he put it in2 neutral....thatz why it didnt launch!

  • complains an American about handling.....

  • i like the sedan.

  • These are the dumbest test drivers ever!

  • I love this, he screws up with the facts (4,0, not 4.4) and he complains it's not a a serious performer when clearly it's not intended to be a Track Warrior (Instead it's meant to be sex-on-wheels with speed behind it)

  • おお、メタルトップだ!日本には入ってこないのかな?

  • No need for your foot on the brake! How can you review a car that you did not even did the proper effort to learn the launch control feature. Sorry m8 but you arent doing the car justice.

  • Americans Will they ever learn??

  • we dont even try at decent sports cars - our motto is make the engine bigger, lower the price and fuck the handling

  • 4.4L V8 psh. These guys don't know anything, if they make such a simple mistake. Its a 4.0L V8 with 8400RPM Rev limiter and 414hp at 8300RPM

  • in Germany the M3 has 420 HP (low Quality Fuel over the big see:-)

  • Europe measures metric HP (called PS in Japan) and not Imperial HP. 420 Metric HP (PS) = 414 imperial HP. That is why in Britain it is rated at 414 HP because they use imperial HP. Regarding gas, go read up on Octane levels. North America uses a different Octane rating standard (Europe uses RON) on wikipedia. 100 European/Japanese Octane = 91 North American Octane.

  • thats defenetley not true! PS=Pferdestärken and its 100 % German/Deutsch! Because the first car worldwide was built in 1986 by Carl Benz/Daimler in Germany.. P=Pferd=Horse! Stärke=Power! You see wat i mean??

The fuel Quality in the states is not so high. Example: 420 HP/PS over here is rated by fuel of ROZ98 and if u take ROZ95! you will have just 414 HP/PS! Thats the way it works!

Dont trust Wikipedia, everyone could write on it.. hahahahaha

  • lol so much for a test driver, forgot to release the shifter, this review was pointless as the people buying the cabrio know they will not have the same performance as the coupe

  • Yeah, that same test driver will complain that he can't put down the top on the coupe.

  • And depressing the gas pedal:

    Slowly: Launch mode

    Fast: Burnout mode

    (Before releasing the shift lever)

  • You forgot to release the shift lever! That's what you need to do to take off. Also, no brake is needed.

  • Taking looks and performance into consideration I chose the M3 convertible. It's the "Goldylocks" vehicle, i.e., Just Right! In my opinion, the competition is: the Audi RS4 = looks wise, not enough distiguishes it from the run of the mill A4; Merc C63 = looks after Market, a little too ostentatious; Nissan GTR = performance wise beats all the above (0 to 60 in 3.3sec), but needs to, as its so ugly. Who wants to be seen in it? The M3 is the perfect amalgamation of looks and performance.

  • I still like it. It's better than a Prius

  • release the gear lever to move in the launch controll mode!!!!

  • 1st - 4.0 litre not 4.4,2nd 2cluches not cluchless,3d - BULLSHIT ,total BULLSHIT there is no such thing as a bad handling M3,actually a bad handling BMW ...and the last man that can critisize the handling of such an amazing car is an american !Where are you sweet handling cars fuckerssss!!!!!!!!

  • so true michelin.

  • my dad make an engine that has two gears and revs to 45,000 rpm with a 12 in. dia. driveshaft

  • my dads truck has jeep wheels

  • he fucked up at 2:31 the M3's V8 is a 4.0 not a 4.4

  • hahahahahahahaha oh yaaaaah he fucked up 4.4 looool

  • at 2:00 here we go! or not! haha :| hillarious! hahahaha

  • english isnt the only language in the world. and after all, this is the world wide web isnt it?

  • I can't read arabic so I didn't know what he was saying

  • all the new M's have gone bloody soft E36 M3 was last of the purist M powered cars in my view. now have lost the raw M power look and feel. hate it.

  • m3 lovers a.k.a. "Cocks"

  • Vivek = likes to eat cocks dipped in curry.

  • all the new M's have gone bloody soft E36 M3 was last of the purist M powered cars in my view. now have lost the raw M power look and feel. hate it.

  • 4.4 litre v8???? huh?

  • Top Gear has really had a lot of influence.

  • Luanch control is not that difficult to master. Detailed insructions are in the owners manual. I've used it twice with no issues. The testers mistake is that he didn't let go of the shifter. On another note, he wasn't required to keep his foot on the brake while bringing the revs up to the preset limit (5500 rpm default)

  • I assume they were able to use the launch control to perform the 0-60mph & 1/4 mi tests also.

  • It's a 4.0L not a 4.4L.

  • The launch control on this makes the launch control on the GT-R seem as easy as turning on a Playstation.

How much does this thing cost? $80k? No thanks. GT-R, please!

  • Amen Johnny!

  • i'd go with the GT-R too

  • This M3's price is right in line with its real competition, Audi RS4 cabrio.

  • Is it a new engine? He said 4.4L V8 I thought it was a 4.0??

  • the convertible is with the same engine - 4.0-liter V8 like the coupe

  • Convertibles will always perform lesser than their hardtop counterparts. Most M3's are for middle aged management types that don't know how to drive fast anyways.

  • its a good look

  • Great car. But I feel the RS4 cabrio is a better overall package, especially when you consider the interior..

  • I think, BMW is one of the best. Yeah.

  • if you could see an orgasm... thats what it would look like...

  • clean

  • Nice car, too bad i'm only 14 and can't really appreciate what the sensations of the car could feel like.

  • i know what you mean i'm only 15

  • ya i have drived my dad's car but i was only in 1 gear i am 14 too

  • ya an i live in egypt so i will not have my driveing licesens till i am 18 lol not like america on 16

  • the e92 just doesnt do it for me ..i dont know why

  • the M3 convertible is so hot, especially with the red paint and beige leather

  • that is a skilled driver with that diff setup and the slight lack of power the m3 then plus that heavy roof mechanism its a har car to keep sideways

  • Though it might be a great car, it's way too expensive. For that money, I'd rather get a GT-R, if I could get my hands on one.

  • The best there is.

  • yea guys!!! nice drifting!!!

  • LoL nice tut

  • Clutchless? WTH? WHY? NO!

  • cool!

  • Car looks like it handles very well around turns at most speeds.
