The "tape worm" that came out is actually iodoform coated gauze. It needs to stay in so that it can disinfect the wound from the inside out and the gauze can wick out the pus. Taking that off like that is just going to make it worse because now it is going to try to heal form the outside in instead of from the inside out...trapping more of the infection inside.

Hydrogen Peroxide really isnt recommended for deep wounds. HP is a germicide and is actually quite weak in its antibacterial effects. This product is only worth using when first cleaning the wound due to its foaming action that helps remove debris out of areas that are not easily reached.

After that, you are better off using an antiseptic solution, such as, Betadine to flush out, disinfect and clean the wound. HP is a caustic chemical that can be damaging to tissues and small blood vessels.

Not exactly. The gauze is called Iodoform. What it does is provide a medium by which the wound can heal from the inside out. If the wound isn't packed, the outside closes first leaving an empty "crater" underneath the newly healed "roof" of skin which would allow the cyst to reestablish itself. The gauze doesn't get rid of the infection but it does absorb some of the fluids and bacteria, lessening the probability of the infection either coming back or worsening.
