  • All true. Bless him.

  • america should listen to this man and stop being such tools :)

  • Total contempt for the people of the country. Remember that American when your sons and daughters are called for duty, remember that when you go bankrupt because you were injured withour medical insurance.Remember when you consume the food they serve you and the way they treat military men when they return.Air Force Dumped Remains of at Least 274 Bodies in Virginia Landfill NYtimes look it up. What a disgrace, when will 99% fight against 1 %

  • First question: "Do you think television journalists have "learnt" anything from this last four years"? Evidently, learning how to pronounce a word at a kindergarten level is too much for the questioner - as well as asking a question in a grammatically correct manner..

  • 1:27

    Was that a cat?

  • 1876 was the price I paid for gas once. I thought of Burr when I saw it written

    on an Eskimo Pie package.

  • this is so good.

  • Paul Jay is an arrogant worm. Too bad he lost his sense of humor. He would have made a good song and dance man.

  • 63 dislikes means 63 puppets are still running on "Reagannomics" Keep living close minded, and you shall die that way, but I shall not be around.

  • He's certainly not out to break the stereotype that there's no one more bitter than an old gay guy

  • @chrisjmonty

The one person that makes "a bitter old gay guy" are two people.

1.The woman who knows and has had all of the warnings that she is marrying a gay man , usually when the gay

man is too young and polite to speak back because hiding is easier than facing the truth and this type of woman uses it to her advantag and after they are married, have children an the man realises he is not only unhappy but he is setting himself up for even more unhappiness. When he leaves She is bitter!

  • @Seyahhsod Wow kid you really have it all figured out dont you? Thats nice......just remember not to be bitter

  • @chrisjmonty

    Oh, Im not.

There are some people in this world that are so bitter they don't know when people are joking.... belive it or not.

  • @chrisjmonty

    2. The closeted man who was born gay but chooses to live a straigth lifestyle.

Everyone knows who this man is. He is the man who

    - Points out and Mocks gay men so not to cause attention to himself.

    - Over dramitizes his lust for women

    - Leaves snyde remmarks about gay men on public areas such as YOUTUBE

    - As a child, always pics fights with the quiet people to show his masculinity

    - Harshly punishes his child for "not being a man" or doing "girly things".

    Thank You!

  • I am officially amazed. I have to read and research more of this man.

  • Gore Vidal rocks

  • Gore condemns the two-party state, while financially supporting the two-party state,

    Transcribe 3,50

"to raising money for the Democratic party, not that I like the Democratic party, but we have to have the semblance of a second party to get rid of the others"

    2,05

"We may have a couple of candidates for you dumb dumbs but you probably won't like them"

    Genius, ha

  • awesome video, about says it all

  • he is so funny, i love listening to gore vidal

  • Wow. The final moment in this video was bizarre.

Vidal had an interesting discourse with Tim McVeigh that was outlined in "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace". Very worthwhile reading.

    One very smart dude.

  • WHY the HELL haven't I heard about this man sooner?!

  • Did the interviewer say simply "Cool." at the end?

  • What's wrong with the interviewer?

  • Corporations fill the pockets of politicans so they can continue to shape policy both foreign and domestic to continue a sociopathic quest of profit. Profit that further seperate the elite and ruling class from the people........

  • An incredible quote from this video:

"I've been around the ruling class all my life and I've been quite aware of their total contempt for the people of the country."

Listen to this man, if you dare to hear The Truth.

  • "When they find any man like to be a danger to their church and state, the first precept in their politics is to defame the man at whom they aim; and then he is an holy Israelite who can spread that fame broadest; like butter upon a loaf, no matter how thin, it will serve...." Thomas Morton of Merrymount, 1637.....VIDAL RULES

  • "They lie and apply it to the other person..." ^_^

  • The republican/democrat paradigm has no roots in reality. Bread and circuses.

  • Vidal has fallen into the trap of thinking that the Dems are any better than the Repugs. Their policies and platforms are almost identical with very minor differences which are played up by the corporate controlled media.

  • @medliberty Yeah but he is justified since the Inbred Repugs got rid of the Bill of Rights and Magna Carta.

  • As smart as he is...he still believes there is a difference between the false left/right paradigm ?

  • Gore is telling as it is of the U.Sof AMNESI, a dehumanising, distorting social reality where the immnse population have been reduced to sheer consumers of junk products . A population reeling in debt, exploitation, health sicknees, and so forth so that their masters can have ease of political control in the name of democracy.

  • i could listen to him talk for days

  • I don't understand why this guy seems to side so much with democrats when they constitute just as much of the "ruling class" as republicans.

  • "A hero like Kerry" ?

I like Gore Vidal for the gems he imparts, but to call Kerry a hero is stretching it tenfold times ten... in the wrong direction.

  • @europarl he meant war hero

  • Re: Lazy media not giving a damn

So true. Case in point: Media failing to recognize public anger over the Wall Street bailouts. It's gotten so bad that some networks like CNBC are little more than propaganda outlets--seriously the crap that station puts out would make Soviet-style aparatchiks blush. People are starting to see through the bullshit and they're pissed. Honestly I'm surprised it hasn't come to violence, but as Jack Palance so astutely observed, "The day aint over yet."

  • please visit:

    theconspiracyexposed.blogspot. (com)

  • I am truly surprised, that the troglodytes haven't knocked off this guy. I am totally against men like this, who can illuminate and educate the 'slave' class (oh, how I hold those plebes in contempt!) Why hasn't this free- thinker been eliminated?! Bastard free- thinking, logical, commonsense SON OF A BITCH!!!

  • you are a republican coward - name caller, no dought!...grow up

  • What an inspiring vid. If I would kill to give such a solid, authoritative damn about my own country, Singapore. I suppose I'll be nearer in ten years.

TheRealNews, good luck. Thank you so much. Keep it up.

  • All old people look lame. This particular one was one of the top writers of the USA for 4 decades, though. Read some of his essays. You'll be amazed.

  • You are patently an idiot.

  • can anyone tell me what's the name of the congressman he mentioned around 1:41

  • It is John Conyers, a Democratic Congressman from the Detroit area. The book he mentions is: What Went Wrong In Ohio: The Conyers Report On The 2004 Presidential Election.

  • Gore Vidal mentions Congressman John Conyers. He wrote a book on the stolen Presidential elections of 2004 in which he provides evidence that the election was stolen in Ohio. The book is entitled What Went Wrong in Ohio.

  • Yeah, he could be considered one. My point is there sure isn't many of them anymore.

  • dis wuz da least funny utube i ever saw wtf nobody even got hit in the balls

  • Ahaha!! That really cracked me up.. (Hope you were being sarcastic lol)..

  • Where are the modern equivalent of intellectual giants like Vidal nowadays?

  • bless u gore

ur one of a kind and

    brilliantly witty.

  • lol dum dums

  • _continentalcritics {.} blogspot {.} com_

  • I listen to Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, and Glen Beck because my co workers keep it on all day. I have to say that they do accuse the other side of doing the very thing that they doing at that very moment. It is frustrating to listen to at best. I also love the yes or no question presented by Billo and Hannity...playground tactics. Rember this one...does you mom know you are gay..yes or no.

  • You are right on. It is frustrating and, frankly, insulting to intelligence. You have to hand it to fox though, not for honest journalism, but for entertainment. They always take the most extreme view on issues, extreme thus interesting, even if it is offensive; not to mention, that their female anchors are invariably sexy little bimbos.

  • No, I mean yes, ahhh damn it! Good old FOX and their double speak, while at the same time refernceing 1984 to defend their position to a viewer who has'nt even read it, let alone understand it. And now if any1 else uses 1984 to call the right authoritarian, the masses of people who have listened to FOX News, make it so such a defence has no basis in reality, just as they have distorted the word liberal into a dirty word. And Murdoch is spreading his filth over to my country, with BBC is evil ect

  • "been brought up on advertising" absolutely correct... this man is a compilation of all the brilliant minds of history. I aspire to one day have as much and maybe more than Gore Vidal. Hate or love the man, you cannot disagree that he is genius

  • Genius? I'm sure Gore Vidal would be the first to agree, but more accurately a bloviator par excellence.

  • "I aspire to one day have as much and maybe more than Gore Vidal."

a bold claim my friend. if its not an absent gesture perhaps i could learn from you. i myself am a bit of a social critic, at least by nature. i too wouldn't mind occupying that mans chair one day(once hes left it of course).

  • Gore Vidal is in my oppinion the most brilliant man alive. George Carlin is my hero but he would kneel down and kiss Vidal's shoes if they ever came in contact. R.I.P. George but props to Mr. Vidal as being the most intelligent man to ever live. Pure genius.

  • Sorry? Have you never read Bertrand Russell? The one whom Vidal bows down to (his own words). I think there are a couple of YouTube videos of Russell. Worth a gander (remember he was from an earlier generation).

  • @xxplosive661 They are two strings on the same fiddle. Carlin educated us with his humour and his irreverance while Vidal leaves us breathless with his intellect and wit. In spite of his background he'll still talk to anyone. I've seen him comply to an on the spot interview for Alex Jones in the back of a parked car when he didn't seem to be feeling too well. In spite of his health and the discomfort he was feeling, he still had time for the people.

  • @xxplosive661 why use such fatalistic and cheesy languauage on your hero and yourproclaimed genius? It cheapens your statement and self.

  • @xxplosive661 I'm coming to your house and I'm going to kill you by picking up your best friend by his ankles and swinging his head at your head, killing you both. You can thank master George Carlin for conceiving the perfect crime that ended your life. *leaves the crime scene to watch more Vidal*

  • nice to see him mention john stewart's dailyshow

  • Just goes to show how our American culture always resents the smartest guy in the room. Keep dropping knowledge Gore!!!

  • Well he always went for elections and didn't take the seats when he could have. "What it lies in our power to do, it lies in our power not to do" Aristotle. I love that quote.

  • Gore Vidal kicks ass!

    9/11 was an Inside Job.

  • I think you'd find that Gore Vidal disagrees with you on that. In fact I think I've heard him say that the Bush Administration would have lacked the competence to pull that off.

  • I'm going to agree with you on that, TheIllestVillain.

  • oh man creepy background music ughh

anyways this is some seriously epic dark information, America is a place with 300 million people and full of belligerent institutions i cant wrap my brain around the horrors

  • The part where he mentioned the contempt the ruiling class have for Americans, I agree with it 100% They HATE the american people.

  • they hate because the elites are internatonal jewry

  • Shut the fuck up. I was raised Jewish and I NEVER had the silver spoon in my mouth.

  • @Consumerofknowledge It goes further than that, this hatred for the masses is worldwide simply because the extent of their control is worldwide. Our perceived leaders are merely puppets controlled by this ruling class. However they do have a special hatred of America because they broke free of their control when they started a new nation with ideals of freedom and equality. This recent attack on the US economy is part of their plan to destroy this new nation that succeeded from their control.

  • America has never been free. Look into the beginning of the federal reserve, debt slavery began here, the people responsible are still in power. They also were responsible for the declaration of independence.

  • @Consumerofknowledge They fear the people because they know the people are their enemy. They fear the people because they have exploited and degraded them and know the people should rightfully hate them. They fear the people like the plantation holders feared their slaves, and like the Spartans feared the Helots. And of course, you naturally hate what you fear.

  • @Consumerofknowledge Yeah, because Mr. Vidal's interview in this months Humanist showed his deep respect for and belief in the American people. The guy's an intellectual elitist rather than political or economic, but he plays the game just as much as anyone.

  • everyone has a fuckin' opinion

  • And to think what this 'free' american press makes the public think about the press in other countries. For example, the war in Georgia, financed and initiated by Bush's picked Georgian president, lied about to the American public - he bombed his own people, and when Russia came to their aid, was blamed for it. Georgia is another piece of the oil puzzle.

  • I like Buckley and Vidal, but that debate turned into fox news. It's too bad the two of them had such animus, they were (are) quite brilliant.

  • "if he had any brains"? while it's admirable that ron paul adheres so closely to his beliefs and pure neo liberal ideaology (i'm not saying this with vehemence) vidal does not give his full support to anyone. he is a man who places importance on rational thought and decision making. over the years flaws in neo liberal philosophy have emerged in the real world. contrary to what you may think, this isn't a struggle between the correct party and the wrong party, it is merely between two groups.

  • and i am not saying the democratic party is right, but the fact that it is a centrist party improves its position in my eyes. a governing party should do what's best in the interests of its citizens (with respect towards other citizens of the world) not blindly follow a doctrine. with some education people will no longer base their political preference on what they are told or given, and will take an active interest to inform themselves of every perspective and to research respective policies.

  • If I was an average????

  • Vidals' bright but needy! Thats ageist!

  • I learned more about American history from Vidal's fiction than I did in school. He's a brilliant, heroic man.

  • FUCK YEAH GORE!!

  • I could listen to him "ramble" all day.

  • f470.......you understand....................

  • Gore Vidal is one of the greatest essayist and intellects this country has produced. It's nice to see someone who is sharp, deep, honest, and smart. In short:everything Hannity, Rush and O'reilly are not. Love, God. PS One of my better creations.

  • Knowledge is power and controlling information to the public creates empire.

Any sensible grasp of the complexity of the information machinery in the US disproves the age-old belief that we enjoy a free press.

    A nice idea - but it's malarky.

There are powerful forces at work to control what you are allowed to know, what you are intended to think and believe.

Manufacture of public opinion is, by far, the most critical aspect of any government seeking to control it's citizenry - period.

  • he has a pleasent voice

  • this guy seems tired

  • "Everybody with an IQ above room temperature is on to the con act"

  • If Vidal is backing the "REAL NEWS" you KNOW that this broadcast is backed by the fascist bankers!

This is REALLY an obvious shill! Notice how he blames the "republicans" in the opression of the "liberals"? BOTH parties work FOR the central bankers!!

Wow. I will go out on a limb here and say that the "Real News" will end up as "main stream mass media" in NO time at all, backed by the Rockefellers!

  • People need to remember that our media is, above all else, in the business of making money. The networks and major newspapers are not the BBC, they are for-profit entertainment outlets that are directly affiliated with music, movie, and television production businesses. It's called cross-promotion. That's why Britney Spears leads the news, not our foreign wars.

  • uptight old buzzard.

  • "uptight old buzzard."

That old buzzard know's more than your granpa & your daddy combined so listen up.

  • Listen up? This uptight old Jew? Please. He's gross.

  • "Listen up? This uptight old Jew? Please. He's gross."

That dosen't even make sense! Work on that grammer buddy.

  • Stop stalking me. I said what I said, so go away.

  • "Work on that grammer buddy"

    grammar*

  • You must have a lot of time on your hands to reply to people you don't know. For what?

  • Are you kidding me, this is the most fun I get now that I'm unemployed. I tell ya this shit's getting out of hand half my mate's have been payed off and the other half are just waiting for it.

  • "I concur." Calvin and Hobbes.

  • The Transgretions, faults and shortcomings of one candidate are projected one the other with lies propagated by the media to confuse the electorate.

Sounds just like American Politics to me.

  • We liberals don't despise America, we want to see America great again -- what conservatives don't like is that we'll be the first to admit that America isn't perfect, and that we see that the flaws and run deep through its institutions and want to do something about fixing those flaws ... sadly, the corporate controlled mainstream media can count itself amongst those imperfections that need to be amongst the first corrected ...

  • I have huge respect for Gore Vidal, HUGE. but he is a bitter old man, who's intelligence is getting the better of him. He is starting to think there is a massive global conspiracy and if you listen and read his work, he seems to be bordering on some form of insanity.

I do hope the man lives a comfortable life and we remember him for his earlier and less fearful work. (this is a gret interview though!)

  • I so enjoy listening to Gore Vidal. Good job in so many of your videos. I wish you success.

  • he so perfectly summed up the seemingly dominant political strategy of our time- lie and attribute your own faults to your opponent.

ive always noticed that, but never bern able to put it in words

  • Gore Vidal thought Nixon was the only great president of the latter half of the 20th century. Brilliant! And he though Jimmy Carter was an idiot.

  • No..Unfortunately, that is untrue. He was opposed to Nixon.

Watch the Buckely Gore debates. Gore explains how and why Nixon is, in other words, doing a horrible job.

  • I am amazed to still find people using the term "commie", and probably shopping at Walmart. I spent some time studying that particular bugaboo -- coming across Hofstadter's grandiose essay The Paranoid Style in the process. One of the earliest references was in the New York Times of June 1871! It is surprising: Anything that challenges American oligarchs or the status quo is called "Commie." And the real believers are those at the bottom of the pecking order. Oh well, let them eat catfood...

  • you're really smart and your comments on youtube matter and are making a huge difference to the world. i love you.

  • Commie, Terrorist, Islamo-Fascist, etc. etc. etc.

  • hahaha!

... liberals, socialists, Jews... ooops, the last one was the other Nazis...

  • The Neo-Cons are very good at this. It is a kind of antithesis to the psychology behind blasphemy.

The II Amendment and the Old Testament are mutually exclusive.

  • The term Gore is speaking of is 'projection' (or Freudian Projection): A defense mechanism in which one attributes one's own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others.

  • he is NOT speaking in that example of projection

  • I'm a Net Rambo! I've got labels for people! Aren't I cool?

  • no! HAR

  • Fox, CNN, MSNBC - all commie inspired bullshit, same goes for today's supposed Conservatives and Liberals. They've all got their mitts in the same money pot.

  • I think you're oversimplifying or You're just lazy and don't want to think about who's responsible for this mess. The left, unfortunately, couldn't defend itself for years because the right wing had stolen and perfected the vocabulary of indignation without any real substance. After carter it became easy to demonize us and blame all of the social ills on liberalism in general. It became easy to piss on us and for the right wing to hide behind the hollow allure of Family Values didn't it?

  • The major news media today is owned by conglamorates, so stop expecting reality from Fox, Wolf Blitzer on CNN, NY Times, etc.. They are all in it for the money and nothing more. George Orwell called it "Double Speak" these are the lies they put out to us.

  • They haven't 'learnt' how to pronounce 'learned'.

  • consult a dictionary:

    learn (lûrn) Pronunciation Key

    v. learned also learnt (lûrnt), learn·ing, learns

it's not even regional, archaic or nonstandard.

    FAIL.

  • People need to wake up, CNN, foxshit, all most of them never asked good questions when Bush wanted to sell this war. Dont believe this shit this year, you need to do your own research fuck, dont sit and watch cnn and foxshit, you have youtube and google this year. Only Dumb ass and lazy motherfuckers will vote for MCBUSH This year.

  • why cant someone like him be our prime minister? he is brilliant and doesnt talk bullshit. he is spot on. heard him talking about bush and he told it how he saw it.such a straight guy. now he is talking straight and to the point again. we want him here. my best friend, bless her, fought against corporate america. bush has made this world a very dangerous place and its true that moreand morepeople hateamerica.bush is a powerfreak and a cheat. well spoken gore vidal. put bush ontrial for war crimes

  • testes the size of zeppelins.

  • george carlin knows how sick american society has become and like vidal knows that the majority of americans now believe that ignorance is strength, that war is peace, and soon will believe that freedom is slavery. america is f*ck*d.

  • i wouldnt put chomsky or moore in the company of vidal. he's brutally honest where as chomsky is selective and moore is a blatant liar, i mean his treatment of charlton heston, and his movie roger and me. michael moore lies.

  • Gore Vidal is one of the very few Americans, Michael Moore is another, who understands the sick nature of American society, that the American people are hoodwinked and brainwashed and forced to accept their lot through fear and a lack of education

  • great man

  • Its certainly true that the radical right resorts to "projection" --that is,ascribing their own weakest most obvious failings to Liberals. They have been depressingly successful at it.

  • if you mean things are complicated rather than obvious, I agree with you.....I don't know who 'Ron Paul' is

  • Gore is the bomb.

    Liberals rock!

  • Just as some Brits hope Americans don't think we all thought Thatcher and Blair were marvellous or even 'fit for purpose', it's reassuring to hear Vidal confirm some Brit's suspicions that some Americans don't/didn't think Reagan/Clinton/W. Bush were/are marvellous or even 'fit for purpose' either.

Western democracy = elected dictatorship of cliques controlling people exhausted by day to day existence and/or with such a short attention span they don't know or care

  • Chomsky on Vidal via email to me: "I met Gore Vidal only once, for a taped discussion. Don't recall what came of it. I think he does marvelous work. He's a great novelist, and an acute critical analyst. We don't always agree -- but that's natural."

  • I'd like to read the correspondence in context. Can you post it?

  • Oh Gore you will never change.

  • its true, i am interested in gang bangs and drugs

  • That was some serious wisdom.

  • Follow this aging quack if you like, but know that he was a member of the America First Committee in the 40's (opposed to America's entry into WWII) and an apologist for Timothy McVeigh. Check it out!

  • You fool. An apologist defends or justifies something or someone. As a likely American, you richly deserve the contempt of your ruling class.

  • So you're agreeing with me.

  • Haha, I see the problem. You don't know how to read, which is why you thought Vidal's piece on McVeigh was apologetics, and why you thought I was agreeing with you. I'm wondering what words of this comment you'll be able to put together to create some kind of meaning for yourself. Enjoy!

  • I really wasn't sure if you were agreeing with me or not, now I see you're crazy, funny-crazy, but crazy. I love Vidal and own many of his books - all of his essays. And history's proven him WRONG! on most everything - interesting, humorous, but WRONG! Go down that path if you choose but you'll be WRONG!

  • The McVeigh thing is uncomplicated - the piece wasn't apologetics, it simply fleshed out the man and his motivations. Sun Tsu would agree that this is the proper treatment to give an enemy. The America Firsters are more complicated.

  • Totally understandable, their isolationism - even Smedley Butler I think was against American involvement in WW2, for good reason. It'd be an interesting alternate history exercise if the US were not to have entered the war, while supporting the Allies to the hilt. I certainly would have liked to see the Soviets invade Japan, hang their wretched emperor and mete out communist justice to the war criminals the U.S. treated so daintily...

  • I would have been in favor of war against the fascists; but I'd certainly be a bit uneasy about what my country's leadership would do with their conquests. (Flash forward to Iraq.) Besides, at the time there was an enormous boy-who-cried-wolf factor in operation. I'm to believe a government who cloaked its entry into the banana wars, Philippine conquest, & WW1 with the most altruistic of motives!? Hence why I say their motives were understandable

  • ("their" as in the America Firsters; why *their* motives in opposing U.S. entry into the war - their isolationishm - was understandable.)

  • He's right about the contempt that the ruling class have for the people.

But he fails to mention that the people reinforce this contempt by their behavior. Election after election, going out and re=-electing the same bastards over and over again. Watching the same tv shows, reading the same editorial articles, etc...

Why not have contempt for them?

  • This guy takes himself a little too seriously. As much as he wants to think hes thinking clearly on things, even he is not and he's takes his gift of intellect too far and it taints him.

Def smart guy but just as tilted as any other guy who thinks they got it all figured out.

  • Its hard not to be tilted with your Bush in office. If your tilted too hard to the left, your being too hard on our dear president. If your tilted too hard to the right your caught between looking insane or blindly supporting a moron.

  • Oh My Lord...the total contempt of the ruling class for the People of America..." Cuts right to the bone doesn't it?

  • I wonder if these folks will go deep enough .... do they realize that the concept of running a world "by numbers" is itself the root of the problem. Money is always numbers. Numbers are always abstract. When you live in the abstract you are easily capable of doing great evil.

  • their studios are close to a racetrack?

  • Two stolen elections, two invasions based on lies, a veritable police state and some people still think 911 was not an inside job. The sheep are so easily led to slaughter.

  • People vs. "Sheeple" there are people and then there are sheeple. most of humanity is sheeple

early to bed, early to rise, fight like hell and organize

  • Of course, we gotta blow up the Sun to prevent Global Warming!
