  • the name of the korean folk song is 'arirang'

    I really like it

  • woaw.. after watching park shin hye in heartstrings .. played gayaguem, ..i started to like the korean tradition instrument specially "gayaguem" ..

  • Hi, I am currently doing a music research on this piece and a cuban piece. I would like to know more about this piece. Is okay if you can inbox me like the title, instrument, history behind it if it is possible. And do you have a score for this piece? It's beautiful.

  • @kaylarouge i'm not the one who posted niether who played but i will give u some basic ideas XD

the song is called "Arirang" (아리랑) it is Korean tradition music (i should say it's Korea folk music). the instrument is called "gayageum" (가야금), it's Korean tradition instrument. it's a pluck with 12 strings.

I'm sorry that i can't write about history behind it.... i hope this info helps u :D

  • This song is Arirang, and lots of different versions exist based on places. This is the most famous version which people in seoul and kyongki province have song.

  • Gayageum is korean instrument. One man who lived in Gaya (Korean ancient kingdom) made this.

It sounds like someone inside the water is playing....... beautiful...

  • where do you buy this thing

i really want to buy it

  • @MsSaski1 visit Korea for one XD

  • ok and thanxx for theadvice ^^

  • what is this song called? i know it's called arirang but is it only for this instrument or does it have a vocalist in it?

  • @chubz112233 this is just the background music and usually there is vocalist

  • เพราะมาก ขอบคุณ

  • 가야금은 놀라운 악기있는디! 난 하나를 구입하려고하지만, 미국에 돌아가기 너무 힘들 었어요

  • Great ! I know the traditional instrument has 12 strings. How many strings is this one? I just bought a 22 stringed Dan Tran from Vietnam. Thank You, Keith

  • เครื่องดนตรีเกาหลี เพราะเหมือนกัน แฮะ

  • WOW ! it very melodios

    i like it

  • you can have my heart =) this is amazing stuff

  • She dress like Thai people....

  • zu langweilich !

  • Ture Solace...

  • This is so beautiful ;)

  • I play in an Irish band and I was surprised at how the chord pregressions on this tune sound very Celtic.

  • This is the new 21-string version kayagum, huh? I was actually trained on the original 12 string which may (or may not) be easier depending on your level. More advanced things are harder on a 12-string whereas the tonal range is obviously a plus for the 21-string. I should try a 21-string one of these days =)

  • Hi

do you happen to have a score? I have some korean students visiting my school and it would be nice we could play it for them.

  • Wow, two thumbs up!! Such a wonderful instrument. I remember trying to play Gayageum for 30 mins straight and the skin peeled off from my fingers. >O<;;

  • I have tabs (from acepetreski - arirang)

  • I have tabs(from acepetreski - arirang)

  • Simply beautiful. So traditional.

  • i'ts beautiful, i want to crying XD *O*

  • can you tell me what key this was tuned to and what the first 2 chords are? I need to play this song for a show.

  • I think it is just called Arirang. Always heard if you have seen the "Pyongyang Mass Games" videos.

You might be able to get chords for it. I haven't found anything.

  • I want the tab babe!!!

  • Actually it depends one the type of instrument...the nylon stringed must be played with a pick, or plectra, but the steel stringed is only played with the fingertips.

  • You can play it with picks or without.... the Mongolains play the lower strings (the lower tones) by fingertips and the higher with 2 or 3 picks. The instrument here is the "Chinese style" Kayegum

  • When I saw the title I got really happy c:

we sang this at school at around 2004! So beautiful~

  • That's one of the most beautiful instruments in the world. You really should manifest your arts more and celebrate the arts and living free. Quite being too conservative and modest to do so. It's OK to express yourself, speak English regardless of your level of speaking, and just be yourselves. Be real. Thanx.

  • Amazing... how do you play (esp. the repeated strumming of the same string) without the finger plectrums?

  • well, I posted the video but I am not the person playing it. I took a 3 months Gayageum workshop at the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts in Seoul. The person in the video, Eun Sena, is a teacher at that Center. She kindly allowed me to take this and the other videos.

  • @apriltuna using first and thumb pluck down with thumb pluck up with first and pluck down again with first u get triplet

  • if you like this instrument, I reccomend you to look for the same kind but from another countries. They look quite similar since they are historical related, but the sound and melodies can be quite different. Try for example Gucheng (China), Koto (Japan) and Dan Trank (Vietnam). From Korea there is also a very interesting one called Komungo, and one similar in shape but played with a bow called Ajaeng.

  • Thx :) now I can start searching

  • @performingasia It's Dan Tranh, not Dan Trank. :)

  • Beautiful :) I wish to have that instrument but here in my country (Poland) we dont have something like that

  • i love love love this

  • 아름 다워요..

  • theyre expensive

    about $1000

  • some concert ones even up to $2000

  • but a good Western string instrument cost much more than that.
