  • anyone else notice the door was closed, then suddenly open at 2:20 ?

  • @Skulexander the light in the room was turned off

  • @cocooreo100 yeah, i figured. tried to delete that post. but then, what bout the door at 2:20?

  • How deep is it? Cause it doesn't look like they have very much room to swim

  • Amazing job and seems to be a reasonable price. Question though, is it possible to grow aquatic plants in this or maybe even like hens and chicks in between the rocks near the waterfall? I would love to dress it up in some plants.

  • @squareenixfreak1 Hi, thanks for commenting and checking out the videos. Well, yes, it is possible but you would need some really good lighting for hen and chicks. Aquatic plants would do ok, with some GREAT indoor lighting, otherwise I'd stick to low light house plants for a location like this. This does not get much light other than artificial. The pond is now decorated with all sorts of plants along the edge, but they are all indoor tropical house plants.

  • @squareenixfreak1 do a video search for "aquaponics". With the right fish to plant ratio, you can make little areas in the edges of the rocks ahead of time and grow a multitude of plants.

  • how much does something like that cost, i want it in my basement

  • @LukeKoman Hi Luke, thanks for checking out the vids a project like this can easily have a range of 5K to 7K or more.

  • im considering creating a small one in my bedroom but to keep piranhas in and would have and amazong rainforest feel to it, posibly with some frogs. i would also use wood instead of bricks, nice job!

  • Pond looks great! (although I'm not sure about the waterfall light. But then I'm not the customer)

The video is very informative, and your responses to people's questions are very helpful.

Unfortunately, you put all this work in and that "Magic Door" steals the show!

    LOL

  • @SkitzerPoindexter Hey thanks for your comment and checking out the vids. You're totally right. I may even change the name of this video to "HOW TO INSTALL A DISAPPEARING DOOR" might get more views, ha! take care mike go to my face book page too /thepondhunter

  • "thriving" and "medical center" used in the same sentence LMAO!!!

More people(thousands upon thousands) are killed by doctors and their prescriptions every year, than are killed by murder and DUI's.

Go to the FBI's own website and search their statistics. People should NOT worry about DUI drivers or homicides...they should be worried about "thriving medical centers"...seriously!

Before you say anything bad to me, check the statistics, THEIR OWN STATISTICS. After that I accept all responses

  • @iamwhoiam73 I got a response for ya. What about the pond? Did you like it? This is a pond video. This "medical center" has already changed hands twice and it is currently a spa that does nails/massage/beauty treatments. So thriving it was not!! but the pond is still there and looking good!

  • so what happens whan the Koi grow? this setup is fine for goldfish, but Koi need 4' depth minimum.....?

  • @5thdartfordscouts Thanks for watching and commenting! I think when the koi outgrow this pond my customer will probably transfer them to a larger housing. Hopefully he will contract with me to build it too!

  • cool i would make mine bigger and not koi but nice work liked this video.

  • @urbanlex Hi, I love the Red Tail cats. I once worked at the NY Aquarium for a spell and we some monster red-tailed there and they were great. Yes, you can make the pond as deep or as large as you like, just make sure that whatever floor it is being built on can hold the weight! I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for watching. If I can be of any further help please let me know!

  • sooo pretty!

  • @FunnyAnimatedNewb Hey thanks!!

  • My landlord is gonna hate me...

  • @botchalism Ha!! blame it on me!! thanks for watching

  • Theres a ghost in this video! At 2:18, right at the video, you could see the door pop up open!

  • @1peiceaznboi Ha!! a haunted pond! Visit me on facebookcomthepondhunter

  • quick questian . Why no plants in this pond?

  • @Tagz3339 Hi Tagz, I did not use aquatic plants with this pond because they require lots of natural sunlight or heavy duty indoor lighting to do well. This pond was later decorate with tropical house plants around the edges, etc and it looked great! visit me on facebookcomthepondhunter

  • Nice pond. Great "how-to" video. I was just wondering if the pond has a drainage system or a water overflow pipe if the time comes that the owners need to change the water. Thanks.

  • @garage510 Hello Garage, this pond has neither on overflow nor bottom drain. Because of its location, the owner agreed ahead of time that when water changes are necessary they will be done with a pump dropped into the pond to drain it.

  • how much did it cost?

  • @jd120655 Hi JD, I can't say what this customer paid, however; projects like this could range from $6K up depending on the exact project.

  • What a great how to video'''' Just wondered about foundation I live on a slab in northern Indiana {fort Wayne} We have clay here just wondered about weight and if it would crack slab....ever have a problem like that or here of any.....Thx Tim

  • @badclass Hey Tim, thanks for checking out the video and commenting. I have never had any type of problem like that and would be pretty shocked if the weight cracked slab, but I guess that would also depend on the particular project. In general, I don't think you'd have any problem. visit me on facebook/thepondhunter too!

  • thats pretty awesome, good job! :)

  • I got a crazy idea, how about an indoor SALTWATER pond with one side of acrylic for underwater viewing. =D

  • where do u get the black plastic bag?

i need one for my koi pond that im buliding

  • @n1as1an Is the plastic bag you are referring to the liner of the pond??

  • very pretty

  • lol 2:20 is hell weird

  • @TheMaddrummer123 yes, the infamous 2:20 point!

  • WTF happened behind you at 2:20 while you were talking?!

  • @SerSah Ha!! behind me in that scene is a motion activated light that turns off and makes it look like the door disappears! thanks for commenting, visit me on facebook/thepondhunter too!

  • the door freaked me out at 2:20

  • @chickendoodoo Yes, the magical disappearing door!!

  • AWESOME stuff, i have one question, what did you use to "GLUE" or better said to keep the rocks together? Thanks for a great video, i keep a few small trutles and may build of these just on a smaller scale.

  • @MARKLINMAN1 Hey Mark, for most installs I use construction foam. The foam does a good job of holding together rock and is fish safe; but the real trick is to stack your rockwork with great care! Thanks for the commenting and checking out the videos, visit me on facebook/thepondhunter too! -PH

  • I love it, and am totally jealous ! lol But I think it's missing some green with nice plants, since it's an indoor I would have put really nice koi fish in there...

  • @petrodvoretz I'd say I am jealous too! I may build them, but I have yet to get my own indoor pond. Thanks for the comments, visit me on facebookcom/thepondhunter

  • Very, very nice! Love the way it looks. I would really like to have some sort of setup like this in my home someday. Just a couple questions...Is it possible to use a submersible heater in an indoor pond like this if you want to keep tropical fish? And also, is it possible to have a pot with lily bulbs or other aquatic plants in the pond if you have a light above in the ceiling? Thanks. :)

  • @Tyce999 Hi Tyce, thanks for checking out the vids and commenting. Yes, you can use a heater to keep tropical fish, an African Cichlid pond would be pretty amazing! For live indoor aquatic plants you would need a very strong light source, which would be pretty expensive, but if you make the investment than anything can be grown indoors! Visit me on facebook too facebookcom/thepondhunter

  • @thePondHunter Thank you! Definitely something to consider installing. thanks for your reply.

  • this is nice...but its a permanent one... i have a pond in my basement for over wintering my fish. altho i have used it as a fry pond also. it is built so i can drain it pull the liner out take it outstde and clean it up fold it up and store it until the next winter!

  • @nightstalkerrc That is a great set-up! very efficient.

  • cool

  • Hey dude, im thinking about doing something like this, how much would this cost me?

  • @hershey5555 Hey Hershey, thanks for checking out the videos and commenting. It is hard to say how much it would cost because there are many variables, but if you build it yourself you may be looking at about 3K for all the materials. Check out THE POND HUNTER facebook page too. See you there!

  • @CorbinDCreptiles BTW.... pond turned out great

  • All of the shots seem to take great pains not to show the outside. What do you use to conceal the cinderblocks and make the outer wall look nice and natural?

  • @galendulac Hi thanks for checking out the videos! I did try not to show the exterior because the concrete block was plain ugly. The customer had a customized finish put onto the concrete block by a masonry artist that came in after we had finished our phase of the project, but there are many ways to cover and beautify the concrete block by using stone veneer, paneling, painting, etc. visit me on Facebook on the Pond Hunter page! thanks again.

  • koi suck cichlids all the way

  • @123FIREball200 Yes cichlids are awesome, but koi are pretty amazing too. I am a fish guy though so I even think guppies are pretty cool! thanks for checking out the videos. Visit me on Facebook on the Pond Hunter page. cya

  • I have a question.. would a glass stick into a tile if i use silicone? because I'll be putting a viewing window in my pond.. thanks.. :)

  • @gianolrac Hey be sure to send me picture of this pond project when you are done!!!

  • hi.. do you have an idea on how to seal a glass on a cement? i mean.. what sealant should i use.. im building a pond and that's my only problem.. thanks.. :)

  • @gianolrac Hi and thanks for checking out the Pond Hunter videos. You would most likely use a silicone sealant and pressurized fitting to connect the glass. Visit me on Facebook at The Pond Hunter page!

  • @thePondHunter thanks.. i already liked your page on facebook.. :) i thought it wouldn't stick in to the cement if i will just use a silicone.. thanks for the info.. i would just put pressure into it.. :)

  • @gianolrac Thanks for the like, hope to see you there!

  • Coool i want a pond but the only place i could put one is in the basement, oh how did you do the lights?

  • @fushadragon Hi thanks for checking out the videos. The lights I used in this pond are submersible pond lights very similar to landscape lighting but rated for underwater use.

  • amazing....

  • @fowlerleftfoot Hi Fowler! thanks, see you around!!

  • lol at 2:20 the door is closed and at 2:24 it's open with somebody doing it

  • @djvdwolf Nobody is actually opening or closing the door. It appears that way but really it is just a light that is turning on/off, making it look like the door is disappearing!

  • No plants ????

  • @drychalice We did not use aquatic plants for this project because it is indoors, but we decorated the exterior with tropical house plants which made it look great. Visit Pond Hunter on Facebook! and thanks for watching the PH videos and commenting.

  • looks expensive, but i like it! great job on the pondscaping or aquascaping, whatever you want to call it.

  • @austinwall1 Thanks for commenting Austin, glad you like this project. It is actually not too expensive and probably about the same as setting up a large aquarium...but ponds are more fun! Thanks for watching and hope to hear form you again.

    -PH

  • Chlorine WILL kill fish, people. You MUST dechlorinate your water first with the proper chemical or your fish will die. This goes for every time you add water as well. Tetra sells the stuff at wal mart, just read on the bottle for how much dechlorinator you need, for the amount of water that you have.

  • @justinsn95 Good advice Justin, using a water conditioner is a given when filling or changing pond/aquarium water. Thanks for the comment.

  • Like the indoor pond. It's something different & unique. How about plants. Is it possible to systane them in an indoor environment? The natural lighting looks decent in this case but what about generally? Thanks.

  • Do you have to prepare the water so that it's suitable for the fish? Do you need a filter? Do you have to change the water ever? Have you ever used any other types of fish? Looks really cool!

  • @MrOldskoolgamez To prepare the water for fish I used a water conditioner to neutralize chlorine and other chemicals that may affect the fish. Yes, complete filtration on this set up and because its indoor I do water changes on this from time to time about every 8 weeks a 20% change. This type of set up is suitable for many types of fish, I think keeping African cichlids in a setup like this would be very cool!! thanks for watching and commenting, check out fullserviceaquatics

  • fishville lmao

  • @1997Donkey Thanks!!

  • Love this vid... I have learned so much from the A.S. technique. I love that your taking it one step further and going inside the house. I just built my first indoor pond and jungle in a sunny bathroom in my house and the koi are much happier and friendly. GREAT VIDEO.

  • @devilsingeorgia Hey Devil, I am glad you enjoy the vids, thanks for watching them and commenting. Hope your project is going well!!

  • great video. I would like to fish farm.

  • @KinshasaOK Hi Kinshasa, thanks for watching Pond Hunter videos. It may be a while before I create a fish farm video! but when I do. you will know first!

  • What if you want plants, too? Would you have to have special lighting? Is a fish pond harder to keep the water clear with all that gravel in the bottom? I personally think the gravel looks great!

  • @GiftedFormula Hi Gifted, thanks for watching and commenting on the videos! I think of most indoor ponds you would need to supplement the lighting if you plan on using aquatic plants. You could decorate with indoor house plants that would make it look nice on the exterior and those have no real special needs, generally. The grave does not really make for any more of a maintenance issue, and I have found it will help keep water clearer. Are you considering an indoor pond? thanks again, -PH

  • Hey great vid! Gives me lots of ideas, I also subscribed. Maybe you could do an Indoor Pond tutorial for a Turtle. Particularly Red Eared Sliders. Thanks!

  • @dave8594 Hey Dave, I will try to get that video done some day. This pond is pretty good for turtles as is, just gotta watch the skimmer! Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @thePondHunter No problem! I heard that if you put screen over the skimmer, the water gets in but the turtles can't. Should work fine but if debris gets in you might have to clean it out.

  • @dave8594 Hey Dave, you can absolutely put screening over the skimmer intake, but try to keep it an open "weave" so water can flow freely into the skimmer, and small debris can get into the skimmer to make your maintenance a bit easier! Thanks for watching -PH

  • @thePondHunter Hey thanks man!!!

  • y is it that they always put koi fish in y not bass or perch

  • A bass or perch pond would be great. I have built trout ponds for customers. some of my customers have put in local fish like bluegills, sunnys, etc. they are hard to see, kind of shy fish. thanks for watching and commenting hope you will subscribe.

  • in the 2:20 to 2:21 behind you the door is close then sudenly open that freakme out, lol

  • Yes, the disappearing door! just the lights behind me really..thanks for watching, hope you'll subscribe

  • Hey Mike, any concerns about evaporation and humidity in a residential setting? How about flying pennies?!?? Ha!

  • Hi Einz, yes there would be concerns about moisture control but really that is for any type of indoor water feature, I don't think that a pond is necessarily any more to worry about, than other types of water features. flying pennies would certainly be the biggest concern with wads of chewing gum a close second! ;-)

  • Are ponds just house ornamental... or for fish hooby too?

  • Hi cosmic, ponds are absolutely for fish keeping, it is just a nice benefit that they are ornamental as well!

  • i wonder how i got from a corn snake video to this but anyways very good indoor pond and ill see what else a video can lead me too

  • Hey, I'm just glad you're here!

  • This is very cool, and I want to do this now since there's just empty space in my basement and I've always wanted butterfly koi! How much would something like that cost to make?

  • Hi Zipper, thanks for commenting and checking out the videos. A project like this would cost about 5K more or less, for a professional installation. If it is a DIY project you can cut that cost about in half. Let me know if I can be of any help, I'm glad to answer any questions you may have. -PH

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

  • nice video . but not nice enough to make me feel secure enough to do it myself i need more specifics

  • Hi, thanks for checking out the video. If I can be of any help with somemore specific information let me know. Give me an email or a call and I am very happy to help out if I can with some more specific info on this type of install. Again, thanks for watching and commenting. -PH

  • HI THANK YOU FOR REPLYING . PERHAPS I AM LOOKING AT T HE WRONG TYPE OF INDOOR POND I AM MORE INTERESTEDIN HOUSING A TURTLE INDOORS your set up may be a little large for me

  • Hi, this pond is about 350 gallons which is a pretty good size for keeping turtles, but it would need a basking area and a heating lamp for turtles.

  • wow it looks so much bigger than that 350 gallons, yes I am aware of the basking area and really need to learn how to creat the bio chem filter from scratch. i have seen a few videos here but to me it seems every one demonstrates too quickly your video is greatly done but it is very quick for me but I appriciate the ofer to email if I have any questions thnk you

  • Thanks, hope I can be of help!

  • Hello I have been planning on building an indoor pond though I really had no clue how to make one this has been loads of help. Though i am planning on putting an amazonian stingray in the pond, & did not see any thing about heaters in the video?

  • Hello, thanks for commenting and watching the vids. I did not install heating for ths particular project because we are keeping cold water species in the pond, and it is indoors so the temperature stays within the 70 degree range most times. However, heating a pond this size is pretty easily done with submersible or inline heating if you plan on keeping tropical species. Stingrays in a pond are a great way to keep and display them. you can see this often in public aquaria stingray displays. -PH

  • I like the video. However I found it to be very uninformative. You covered the basics but didnt go into the plumbing or electrical work. Also what about moisture issues? Does the constant running water cause any excess humidity?

  • Hi, thanks for watching the video. This was meant ot be a "basics" type of video. Because of time constraints imposed by YOUTUBE I can only get so much info into each video. Plumbing ponds and installing lighting could each use their own 10 minute video to properly explain the procedures. As far as moisture, this pond has been up and running for about 2 years now and there are no moisture problems to report and neither has there been any excess humidity, valid points though!

  • It's my guess that this would have to be done on a concrete floor? Also, this is in a hospital/ medical center? What about chemicals from mopping and aerosols getting in the water? Maybe I'm thinking that would be more of a concern than it actually is, but I wonder. Also, how many gallons of water would you say this one is?

  • Hello John, yes, this was done on a concrete floor. At the time of installation it was planned to be a quasi-mediacl center, however it ended up opening as a day spa (massage, facials, etc) instead. As with any install interior or exterior contamination is always a concern with any open water such as a pond, but so far its been few years since this install was done and we've had NO problems of any type. This pond is about 350 gallons. Thanks for commenting and watching.

  • What do you put around the outside edges of the block to make it look nice? Did you build a wood frame?

  • for this project we used a cultured stone facade, but there are many ways to make the exterior surface decorative, including wood, paneling, paint, etc.

  • How would you go about heating the water for say, cichlids, or other tropical fish? Could an inline heater be attached to the filter output?

  • Hi, to heat an installation like this you could definately do an inline heater and that would be the most efficient, or you could even do a submersible heater in the skimmer box.

  • Comment removed

  • Great way to keep large cichlids :-)

  • Hey Tom, it really is a great way to keep cichlids. 2 years ago I put some african cichlids (mbuna and tropheus) in my outdoor koi pond just to see how they do. To my suprise they get along just fine with my koi, they loved the rockwork in my pond and it took very little time for them to get in the mix at feeding time. Only problem is taking them out at the end of the season before it gets cold here in the northeast. =-( Thanks for watching, you have some great vids btw. -PH

  • The arrangement of water light is superb. This pond is very much beautiful at night!

  • Thank you for your positive comment and thank you for watching Pond Hunter videos!

  • wat if someone falls in and all the rocks fall out of place

  • @bluearsefairy hello9, I have to hope that never happens, but if it did the pond owner would call us back and we could easily do the necessary repairs and get the pond back to new condition in no time! thanks for watching PH vids.

  • you are the best

  • Thanks you so much for the kind words!! Hope to hear from you again.

  • how did you place the rocks and what is a fish tunnel

  • Rocks are first installed as a "dry stack" then we use fish safe construction foam to keep them in place; strong stuff easy to use. We use fish tunnels and caves built into our ponds as areas for the fish to go tohide out and feel safe. The cave can be a rock overhang or we use piping to creat them and the fish tunnel is simply a cave that the fish can swim through from one side to the other. Thanks for watching, thanks for commenting, thanks for being a subscriber!

  • Mike ONCE again man....U R the shit..... fantastic work!!

  • Thanks man, I appreciate the comment. Happy new year!

  • you didn't really "show us the whole process", it was more of a before and after... would have loved to have seen how you ran tubing, lights and wires, how you built up the rock around the waterfall so it stays secure...

    looks great...

  • Hi, I had to edit out someof the process because of time limits set by YOUTUBE. All tubing and wiring ran along the outside of the upper edge of the liner. to secure the rockwork we used construction foam. Thanks for watching, and commenting!

  • @thePondHunter thanx for the additional info...

  • i think the light was a pretty cool touch

  • In the right setting those lights can be pretty cool. thanks for watching!

  • Did you have to glue fix the rocks or just lay them unfixed. Cheers

  • Hello, the rocks are dry stacked and then we use fish safe construction foam to seal them in place. We use the foam for the waterfall as well to make the water go where we want it to go. Thanks for comment, cheers, keep watching!

  • Nice work but, I would want something that looked more natural than this. The stacks of colored stone and the stone circling the bottom makes it look really fake and boring and the waterfall in general was a little weak and the light was not a nice touch at all. You should have built a smaller pool of water above the waterfall to make it more believable because the waterfall looks as though it is coming from nothing

  • heyy u forgot da fuckin plants!!!!!!!!!!!

  • being an indoor pond located in the basement of this facility aquatic plants were not an option of rthis install. However, indoor house plants were added around the exterior of this pond to soften the look a bit, when the facility opened. Aquatic plants for an install like this would be a disaster!

  • what filter are u using?

  • I am using a skimmer box biofalls combination filter system by Aquascape. They work great and are fairly easy to install.

  • nice a thriving medical center with a pond full of pseudomonas and aeromonas bacteria pumped into the air, great for any

    immunosuppressed patients. stupid ass

doctors, money to them is more important to health of a patient.

  • Easy champ, it's not that type of medical center. For what it's worth, since that time the vid was done the facility has changed into a massage, facial massage, beauty and nail high end type of place.

    Let the pseudomonas fly!!

  • i want one of these in my basement but with motoro rays. i just cant convince my dad to let us build it.... haha

  • That would be pretty amazing. Ray tanks are great. Just put it in and your Dad will grow to like it!

  • haha sneaky.. yea i love rays. they are so exotic looking.

  • the river rocks at 4:50 and all the other rocks do you somehow glue them or using cocking to make them stack up? Im new :)

  • In most of our construction I use what is called waterfall foam, which is a type of construction foam similar to insulating foam or triple expanding foam, except this stuff is meant for ponds and is safe for fish, inverts, and plants. It is a great way to keep rocks in place, and a great way to help create dramatic waterfalls.

  • If you pause the video at 4:53 you can see some of the foam right in the center of the screen, it is black in coloration.

  • My son and I really like the video and the pond. We thought the colored light near the waterfall detracted from the natural look to the pond. We also thought some plants would warm up the feel a bit. Very helpful video. Thank you for sharing it.

  • Hi thanks for the comments! I agree with your thoughts, houseplants were added later to the area and it did soften the look, but there is not enough light indoors for aquatic plants. The multicolor light is at request of our customer and we aim to please our customers! Take care, and thanks you for watching the Pond Hunter vids.

  • the koi will eat any plants you will put in. :)

  • Not if it is done right! However; the plants we used for this were house plants placed around NOT in the pond, no aquatic plants will grow in this light condition, the location is too dark being an indoor pond.

  • Oh I knew it was a door xD

  • Apauln i think that's a door

  • That it is!!

  • If you install these in a sun room, will there me the same algae problems as a outdoor ponds? Since they are in full sun.

    Thanks, Arteom

  • Hi Arteom, there are so many contributing factors that affect algae growth that it is a topic unto itself, but yes, a pond in full sun compared to this pond with NO sun will definately generate more algae growth but not nearly the same as an outdoor pond. Any indoor ponds generally have more controlled environments so the algae production is usually a bit more in check.

  • How would you keep the evaporation from ruining the drywall around you or the ceiling? Like in a bathroom would you need to install a vent fan ?

  • Yes, some sort of venting system or dehumidifier would come in very handy for any type of indoor aquatic display wether you're talking pond or fountain or waterwall. Humidity should be a consideration.

  • what the hell??? at 2:20 behind you and to the left there's a wall, at 2:21 it disappears...

  • opps... didn't realize this question was asked and answered...

  • 5 koi will out grow that pond.

  • You're right 5 koi will outgrow this pond, matter of fact 3 koi will outgrow this pond but in the mean time before they have to be transferred to a larger pond the owner is enjoying his fish tremedously. This is a great way to grow out fish until they are ready for larger accomodations.

  • 2:19-2:22 anybody else see it????

  • HAHAHAAHAAAAAA

  • What you're seeing behind me is a motion activated light sensor, what appears to be a door disappearing is really just the light turning off, very funny though you noticed it!!
