Actually, Blade Runner is inspired by Phillip K Dick's short story Do androids dream of electric sheep while the visuals are inspired/lifted from BDs (French comic books), particularly two of Moebius' short stories. The Fifth Element was inspired by Blade Runner and got the two guys who inspired Scott on BR (Moebius and Messieres) to design the movie by Luc Besson. That said, this is clearly influenced by all of the above but does it's own thing just like Fifth Element. All three are good.
I was really disappointed with this movie, everyone seems to like it but it just seemed like it had been put together by someone with no ability as a director.
The pacing was all wrong, the action scenes were poor, as was the acting and I found it impossible to empathize with any of the characters.
I just watched this film over the weekend. Yea its a bit like Blade Runner but so what. Its a beautifully shot film. Amazing it took me this long to find it. Its in my top 10 SciFi now.
My love for Blade Runner and hate for ripoff films aside, this one seems to be a homage and looks like it has some beautiful shots....I'll give it a chance :D
@TVwriter23 Blade Runner was inspired by Metropolis.....Natural City was a rip off. Rip off isn't such a bad term. I liked this movie. But it could have taken a few liberties instead of basically saying "Hay, I'm a BR fan, look what I can do!"
@Feuyaer dude I love rip-off films. Especially the bad ones. The Turkish Star Wars or The Turkish Star Trek, Star Runners (and we all know that movie was Blake's 7, Firefly (which was influenced from Blake's 7 even has lines lifted for the series), Starship Troopers etc., but it was still hella fun. But saying that a movie or book will still be original even with influences, because it's written, made by someone else.
@TVwriter23 So what you've basically just said is that because Blade Runner was partly INFLUENCED by Blade Runner, it is therefore a rip off? Bullshit. Blade Runners style, its depiction of a dystopian future was inspired partly by Metropolis (as were most dystopian sci fi films after Metropolis) yet Blade Runner still managed to present a fresh and new depiction of a decaying world. Everything else is original or partly derived from the original novel.
@dcj28 No you must not have been reading what I said or what I was replying to, because I said that Blade Runner was influenced by Metropolis as many movies and books are influenced by each other. What I was saying is that there is nothing wrong with this. I for one don't care if a movie is a rip-off film or not (and I mean literally a rip-off film) or if it was influenced by it. You can be influenced by another work and it will still be original, because it's coming from your voice/or POV.
On the box of the overseas DVD format I purchased online from HKDVDstore long before it ever was released in U.S. format; it actually says "A Korean Blade Runner" on it which I guess would mean that S. Korea intended for it to be on target with Blade Runner. It does have some cool visuals and CGI fx but is a drag at times and the action scenes are either at lightning speed or slo-mo for the most part. Otherwise not bad for S. Korea.
no no no...ok yes. granted the plot is straight copy, however, where you have to give this director/team his due, is that instead of "ripping off" it, he made his own look/image for the movie.
I own this on DVD. If you must watch this, then watch it for the special effects and visuals. Not only does the film rip-off Blade Runner, it pretty much rips off quite a few other films as well. This film flopped badly here in South Korea. Don't believe the hype surrounding this film.

"No"?
No. Do you know what Blade Runner is? This film is an obvious ripoff/homage. Do some research.

a rip off? i see it more like a sequel. this is when deckard tries to save rachael.
jimdaddy65 2 years ago 6
@jimdaddy65 You know didn't think of it like that. That would be interesting knowing that she has to eventually die. How far would Deckard go.

@Feuyaer so is Blade Runner when you take into account it's influences such as Metropolis.

this movie is good, but the action sequences are sped up, and it gets pretty annoying.

I wonder how it would look without Aliens, The Matrix, and Tomb Raider. Probably still like Mission: Impossible.

Watching trailers don't give the same experience any longer... not since I was Pablo Fransisco do "The voice" on his Stand-up show =D.
In the city...he must fight to survive. Arnold Schwarzenegger is... little Tortia-boy.
