What do make it burn faster or slower? You got one blasting fast, is it of better quality or just less dense? Nice video! By the way, do someone have seen a DIY Pelletizer, because Im having a hard time searching for this? Not just for that, but i want to make my on smokeless powder, and charcoal pellet for my burner, too. Im not for USA were people get it with relative easy, so please don't say simply buy it. @policarpioron20 Any 100% cotton or 100% hemp material will work, just not polyester/cotton blends. But if you have to ask then you don't know your chemistry well enough to keep from injuring yourself with concentrated sulfuric and nitric acid ( this "process" of making gun cotton.)

@raptured Why? Really?How is your life made more whole by knowing the molecular change 3HNO3+ C6H10O5 → C6H7(NO2)3O5 + 3H2O? A) This formula is Nitric acid with Cellulose. There is no "flash paper" in this equation. Flash paper is a different formula. B) Just follow the atoms. It really doesn't matter which N in 3HNO3 ends up in (NO2), or any other atom from before to after. C) I'm not doing your homework for you. D) Its on the net, refine your search criteria and be persistent.

I'm not a science student, but very interested in this. It is for a project, but I'm trying to understand the molecular chemistry to understand the reaction.

You have helped quite a bit though, appreciate it. Now that I know that there is no flash paper in this equation, I'm going to refine that search. Hopefully, I can take it somewhere further from there.

@shimsocol Yes, one could hold it but is more visible if you throw it as it lights. It does generate some heat and if there is high humidity, it may not burn as fast as it should and then yes it will burn you.

@SophomoricHumor Go back to Organic Chem 234! You should know basic organic chemistry such as sugar is C6H12O6 and this molecule has WATER (H2O) in that molecule. So much of the "mass" turns to steam! and yes there is a small amount of ash unseen by the camera.

flash paper is easy to make if you have access to chemicals and you've taken chemistry xD and flash paper is a name made up by stupid magicians its actually called nitrocellulose meaning nitrated cotton. its made by mixing sulfuric acid with nitric acid and dipping in your feul of choice ie: paper, cellulose, string. message me for synthasis but it can be extreamly unstable when confined so BE CAREFUL

The recipe can be easily found on the internet. However the ingredients that go into making flash paper are not so easily obtained, furthermore the acids used can burn you severely. it is best purchased in its finished, ready to show/use condition from a magician's equipment dealer.

i noticed on your fire ball shooter.. if you load the cotton in first then ball up a piece of flash paper and smash it down.. you can get the fire ball to shoot in excess of 10-15 feet with the same build you have. check out my vid for example. i found out how to make flash cotton, im looking into saving more and making my own flash paper..

You can get a gloplug at a local hobby shop. They cost anywhere from 3-8 dollars (for that type) They are normal RC car/plane parts. I have planes to make a flame ball gun with this techinque. pretty cool.

lemuelbecc, no it is not harmful because it burns so quickly, but then, it also depends on the Percentage of Nitrus added to the mixture, so as long as it flashes quickly, no its not harmful... it it burns for a long itme, well.. you can figure out the rest.

the reason the flash cotton and flash paper didnt burn together is because they use different amouts of n03 and sulphuric acid each

this is because the cotton is very dense
