I agree with everything but the last part...Once I hook the dura to my gooseneck and haul (usually combined vehicle weight is 25-31,000), the GM will get about 6-8 mpg, whereas my Dodge will get 11-13...The other thing is, with my job I need torque, not hp...If you need toque, you should start with the inline motor...

@suedepolo I don't know about +140 from a chip, but the GM is the easiest to get to 500hp. From there things get spendy though. I couldn't do it, I tow combined loads between 20-32,000. The Duramax under load eats way to much fuel. My Cummins literally gets double the mileage towing than my Duramax.

You also have to factor in that this is an old 12 valve mechanical motor vs 06 duramax w/ a 6 speed auto. This duramax is not stock by any means a duramax with a good efi tune is a 500hp truck. Go a 1/4 mile and see how far the duramax is behind then.
