Regarding Rush vs. Police - totally different music, Rush makes more complicate/articulate progressive music, while the Police goes for minimalist pop-rock, but still The Police could do a good job playing a Rush song if they wanted - Sting is a killer vocalist and has a background as a Jazz player, Copeland played progressive music before the Police
Come on guys, comparing Rush and the Police? It's like comparing your car to your house. You need them both and they're both great, but they're totally different.
this sums up the police experience better than anything I've ever seen. According to Andy's bio, the sound crew had echoplex tape based delays running as sends that they would feed back to the group and play dynamically. They would exist in DUB delay space that the monitor feed would provide. Great crew and truly the last Anglo North American conquest of the baby boom, and as an american, my personal favourite. ;) Cheers Stu, Andy, and G. Godspeed.
Check out the source of this genre of music. Is it not palatable enough for you. Andy had it right on the nose. Music IS just a sensory, raceless, colourless thing. But do check the source and find out what you are saying to yourselves when you don't like the music unless it's made by white brothers and sisters. Sorry to flare up your innate racism, but there YOU go.
Será que hay un pelotudo en el mundo que compara a The Police con Rush y a Copeland con Neil Peart??? Por qué pierden el tiempo en boludeces así?!?!?!?!?
What I love about this video post; Sting often used to shout his count-in on the off beat when they played this song live, forcing Stewart to jump the hurdle, and this time Stewart wouldn't toe the line...it belies the infamous band tension perfectly.
andy summers is so right with what he said about the stealing of reggae and blues. stealing the reggae is a little different because it eventually did get white people listening to bob marley and other reggae groups and stuff, but i feel like we never give our own blues musicians any credit.
LMAO how could you ever compare Rush to the Police??? different generes for one thing....And another we are talking about the Police....In a totally different class then Rush ever was!
@rekkof And not to mention that Rush even admitted that the Police is one their favorite bands of all time, and that their music is really complicated. That says something.
@rekkof Yeah, I heard this from a Rush fanatic that I know, and he said that Neil Peart and the singer said that regular songs go on a rhythm of something like "4-2-4-4-2" (Quoting from memory, probably off by a little), and Police songs don't go by that, making them complicated to play, and especially create. So if a man often ranked number one best drummer is a fan of Stewart Copeland (in which I rank #1), then that has to score the Police some credit.
Trash with gold is a ridiculous thing to say. It never ceases to amaze me how stupidyly anal people can be. Rush are a terrific band circa 30 odd years+. The Police WERE a terrific band and i will always love them as the band that they were and of course individually now. Comparing Copeland with Peart is stupid. Do you really think they perhaps argue via email as to who is the best???? Get a c ocking life and enjoy the tunes and musicians that we have been gifted to hear in our time.
I remember it well when I introduced The Police album to a friend. He was like whoa, the instruments being thrown occasionally here and there as it sounded to him then LOL
This is the best performance of Bed's too Big that i've ever seen. I'm also glad to finally see them talk about the reggae influence. What andy says is true. What they don't emphasize though is that what they really were impressed and influenced by was DUB. The live reconstruction and arrangement of a song usually done on a mixing board but which The Police did with their instruments and "less is more" philosophy.
pure adrenaline on there concert in the 80s just impossible for a modern band to create music with a drummer a bass and a guitar can you see today with this pussy band knoking around
I think what makes the Police's music so great is how it is uncluttered, there is so much space you can fill in the blanks yourself. This must take great strength and discipline to play.
2:27 They messed up the intro! Haha, never realized that before. Listen and you'll hear it!! Sting counts them in, but Stewart is playing a slightly different beat on his snare, causing confusion for just a sec.
Makes no difference, they are still easily one of the best ever!
I agree with your comment, but i have my own pint of view; the intro that steward makes in this song is basically simple, but changes the accent in a perfect way that makes you fell that it almost has no pattern, I have seen more versions of this song (such as in germany) and is precisely sting the one that makes the confusion to the band counting loud but out of the rythm of Steward pattern. (is funny to see Andy being silent until he is completely sure that the mess has really ended )
who ever invents the next thing for a tour will be a millionare these video walls have bored us to death not long ago i was at this huge outdoor concert and i had this guy next to me with his video camera recording the show, he was watching the whole thing through his camera then i said to him "why don't you turn that thing off and enjoy the show for a minute" and he looked at me and said "you know what your right i mean i'm here and i'm thinking,i can't wait to get home to see it on my tv "
well judjing from u2's latest signgle "boots" it wouldn't make much difference if bono was playing with a high scholl band or with u2 "i've got a submarine you've got the gasoline let's get together and have a baby i'm a millionare!" ha...ha...ha...! every year the same thing huge tour huge video wall and here we go again!
the Police will always be my favorite band. I love U2 and Rush and others, but Sting, Andy and Stewart are the best. This version is crazy, how about Stew and Sting going nuts during the middle of this one, ahhh!
nowadays, however, they are not the same..i dont think that is because of age,(they're not so old,u2 guys are the same age and they still compose singles such as vertigo, elevation, etc..)
the police just don't have interest in playing anymore, they lack of the energy they had during the 80's.. rush is , i think, the best power trio nowadays, they still play with lot of energy. the police WAS the best, however..
well...perhaps bono needs the edge, larry mullen and adam to be a succes formula...while sting doesn't need stewart and andy...he has vinnie, omar, manu, dominic miller
Would be interesting what bono would sound like with a diferrent band though....
vinnie is far away from stewart copeland.... stewart is 1000000 times better.... Sting needs him and Andy to be "The Police" and make concerts in full stadiums; Sting alone can't do that...
Saying that Rush is better is ignore music's history and is like comparing trash with gold. Thta Police was, is and will be the best band in their genre. Police is pure gold man and has one of the best drummers ever... Stewart Armstrong Copeland!!!!
@Eltroim you peart fanboys are worse than the travis barker fanboys. sick of hearing about neil peart and some crap canadian band. Watch Peart at the Buddy Rich tribute concert; hes by first the worst there.
@CaptBoeing757 To actually SAY that either group is better, is like saying you actually love your mum more than your dad, or viceversa. Why should anyone group be held over the other? Geddy Lee and Sting, Andy Summers and Alex Lifeson, Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart...each pair of musicians are so different from each other, but they´re ALL awe inspiring. The lot. The Police is my favourite group, and I became a drummer because of Copeland, but please don´t call Rush trash. That´s outrageous.
