I agree. It's ALWAYS about the next election. Take Hilary Clinton as One example, voting the way she did about the Iraq war. She voted with the political climate. Her aspirations for future office prevented her, or so she thought from doing the right thing. In and out of Afghanistan, get the job done.
We the American people were so jingoistic we were lead by the nose into this terrible Iraq war. (oops sorry...I let myself vent there)
Frank I basically agree on term limits and would love to see many of them term limited but realize we would be losing a few very good, experienced and wise people in government. As a casual observation, all my Republican friends now claim to be independent or libertarian. I suspect it's to keep from having to answer for George Bush because most of them still vote Republican and support all Republican issues. I always enjoy listening to your political vlogs. I agree with you, Jim most independents were once Republicans. I dont have any proof to back up that statement, but thats what I believe. I also believe the paradigm is changing, and you will see more Democrats becoming Independents. Again, no proof its just a feeling. Having dealt with state legislators up in Sacramento, term limits there have made things worse. The real issue here Frank, is voter apathy. Better to have some continuity in knowing how to work within the parliamentary system of a legislature. It's too easy to complain about politicians, when they're just as small minded as the people who vote for them! 8)
I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!! my old congress man was Gary Condit you may remember him from a few years ago with the sandra Levy case he did alot to our community and his family did as well but after the incident occured our whole area has gone down because the person who has took over doesnt do anything until election time and than he pretends to care and its just a big mess
I am sure we could come up with several people in our districts that would make fantastic leaders. I wish it would happen (term limits) but I cannot forsee anything that will change the status que.
I wish there were at LEAST consecutive term limits. A lot of these people spend SO much time in office, they don't even know who they work for anymore (i.e. Ted Kennedy)
